00Noir Gets Thai Food & The Boot

Super quick indoor photos as I experiment with the whys and hows of the way different lighting distorts my facial features. I much prefer the outdoor shots for color, clarity, and ambiance, but I prefer how my face looks indoors - chin always looks normal, whereas outdoors I feel like I either have no chin or a double chin. Any photographers have tips?

At least the slight yellowish tinge to the photos is sort of noir-ish!

1-2 is a Topshop hi-low dress I got from Nordies after noticing that I had stocked up on midi skirts that didn't allow me to wear my tall boots. I also have a short black skirt coming that I hope will completely fill the hole.

#3 is a casual outfit thrown on to pick up Thai takeout. It was too warm for the day, but since we were only out for 10 mins, I was fine. Cozy!

Topshop dress - Nordies
Tiger pendant - Italy
Chainmail watch - custom gift from friend
Brahmin bag - Nordies
Frye Boots - Amazon
Rag & Bone pullover - hand-me-down
Gap legging jeans - Ebay
Rockport boots - Shoebacca

Retro fab! I love the dress, and what an innovative way to wear black and white. So pretty. Your cozy outfit makes me long for fall, sigh. Chainmail watch sounds cool, please add more chainmail to your outfits. ;)

1-2 are out of this world for me. Still hoping to ever find the right white dress that doesn't make me look like a health professional. You've mastered it.

That dress is sooooo fab!! Fun, a little glamorous, and no sign of nurses! So fab and fun!

Ooh, you look so Neo in the dress and boots with (circus!) stripe bag. And quite honestly, the casual sweater outfit - I'd totally wear that to catch a date :D

Thanks, ladies! I had no idea white dresses were associated with nursing - glad that I didn't accidentally do that to myself.

Rachy, if you don't mind, I think I'm gonna start calling them circus stripes, too. Rolls off the tongue easier than Tim Burton stripes. :)

the high low hem on the white dress is really fun, nice edge to a traditional style! & I am lovin the bold graphic quality of that bag!

As far as the lighting goes--lots depends on the angle of the light source and the quality (diffusion) Generally, outdoor early morning or late afternoon light, where the sun is low in the sky will give you flattering shadows/lighting. If there are a few clouds in the sky (or overcast) it's a bonus as they will act like a natural diffuser.

At midday, when the sun is directly above you can get harsher shadows which can cause odd looking shadows under eyes/chins.......same with indoor light, directly overhead lights can be pretty unflattering. Some amazing portraits can be taken with simple window light to the side of your model

Love the white dress and tall boots!  So cool.  That purse sure is working hard!

Mmm, Thai food is my absolute favorite!

Love the breezy quality of the dress with the strength of the boots.  Perfect for you!

This dress is SO cute. I love the extra-long shirttail. The boots are just the right touch to make the look completely Rae.

Fun dress! I like the longer hem in the back.  And great casual outfit, I'd sport that one myself!

I like it!  What's the facial distortion issue? You always look good and normal to me.

  • Sara L. replied 10 years ago

I love the dress! Makes me think I should look for a white shirtdress for next summer.  I always think you look normal in your pictures too.  You're probably more critical of yourself than others are (I know I pick apart photos of myself too).

00noir is going to compromise her secret identity if she keeps posting photos of herself looking so fab.

  • No Fear of Fashion replied 10 years ago

I like the dress, but although the boots look very good with it, I cannot keep wondering that they must be very hot in summer.???
The casual outfit is very easy.

Great dress, the fit is perfect.  This style is good for showcasing belts as well.Your legs look miles long in the sweater and jeans outfit.  I envy that you inherit Rag & Bone sweaters!

As for the indoor vs. outdoor, I find I look best indoor with flash or outside with dim lighting a fill flash.  These hide my wrinkles best!  But I think the outdoor shots are overall more interesting and stylish.

I don't get 00Noir at all from the dress and boots. It totally reminds me of something out of a Free People catalog.

Rae, I love the white high-low dress. It's fab with the tough boots - your signature look. I enjoy seeing the structured and ladylike bag complement the pretty frock and warrior footwear by adding its own level of chic.

Fun seeing your style evolve as you grow out your hair. xo
