Boyfriend Jeans With Tall Boots + Messier Hair

Huge hugs to everyone who gave opinions, suggestions, and therapy sessions on my post from last night. I feel like I have a plan for some future experiments, and that goes a long way to helping me calm down.

Since a midnight haircut was not in the cards, I went with some suggestions from my Asian-haired friends and slept with my hair wet and clipped up in bobby pins. I also gave myself a helping of DH's lethal hairspray. My hair rejected most of the wave but kept enough that I was much happier with the texture - high five Diana and Lyn!

Perhaps I felt emboldened by my "wild" 'do, but I had a sudden urge to try a new silhouette as well: baggy britches with tall, fitted boots. A little bit Mountie, a little bit WWI... really, how could I go wrong? It won't be everyone's cuppa, but I will definitely wear this combo again. Soon. :)

Added an afterthought pic of the outfit without the coat.

Fab as always, rae. I'm glad you like your new hair. I think it looks great! Your outfit is so effortless and stylish. Love the BF jeans with the boots.

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

Yes, you and Ceit are rocking this look today!

    KILLER

    Pinning.

  • K. Period. replied 11 years ago

You kill me. So awesomely cool. Beachy waves and moto boots. Total awesomeness!

  • cciele replied 11 years ago

Very awesome. Love the baggy BFs with the tall boots. And your hair strategy seems to be working great!

FYI, I have Asian hair too and coloring really does make a difference in texture. Now that my hair's a bit "wrecked" I can do a lot more stylingwise :)

Love how the ends of your hair look choppy. My hair will NOT do that. I think the silhouette is great too: military + equestrian = cavalry?

  • ManidipaM replied 11 years ago

This is a ROCKING great Rae look!

And I like Nadya's 'cavalry' epithet for it :-D Apt with the wrangling of the wild mane too!

Speaking of colouring (to Cathy's point), I notice dark hair often *looks* less textured unless you're really up close too, because the darkness visually swallows up any wave, chop or muss. One of my pet frustrations, I guess --- if I got Angie's hairstyle, say, it simply wouldn't look as effective in my black hair; it would resemble a smooth, flat black helmet even if there IS texture (granted, Angie's is a very refined cut, rather than messy to start with), but it looks so great on Angie at least partly because the colour of her hair lets you see strands separately!

Sounds like a lot of effort/bother but your new textured hair is wonderful!!!
I'm from the era when we knew about bother, too :) because we slept on a head full
of frozen orange juice containers or toilet paper rolls. My college roommate never turned in her sleep, flat on her back, and we used to say she looked like a torpedo.

Loving this look, and completely drooling over your boots. So simple, but perfect. Your hair looks great in these shots!

  • Raisin replied 11 years ago

Oh nice! I've never seen BF jeans in tall boots, you look great!

  • Jaime replied 11 years ago

Love - messy hair and all. The outdoors shot shows the jeans in all their slouchy glory with the fantastic coat and bag, but I appreciate the detail on the indoor shot as well, You look amazing.

  • replied 11 years ago

Now that's more you, with the messy hair. I love it! Great outfit formula too, I can see why Angie is pinning you. Congrats!

  • Kat replied 11 years ago

I am completely LOVING your outfits and your hair lately. Really. So glad you're feeling a bit better today... Sounds like you have a plan and sometimes that's all one really needs to have a shift in perspective and thus mood.
    As always, you look gorgeous.

I like your hair and I'm happy that you're happier with it. New haircuts can be very frustrating. The boyfriend jeans and boots look really good together. It's not something I could pull off, but it looks perfect on you.

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

    FAB, Rae.

You look positively Canadian in this!!

  • Diana replied 11 years ago

Yay! I'm glad the hair is (mis)behaving better now! Love the baggy britches - I want to try this look out too.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Perfection! Love the outfit - the baggy jeans tucked into those killer boots, the bit of brown belt hanging down, the sweater - all fab together. And you hair looks fantastic! You go girl!!!

  • Janet replied 11 years ago

Wow, I never would have thought to try tucking my BFs into tall boots, and it very well may be a disaster on my big thighs (I may have to try it out just to satisfy my curiosity), but you my dear look fantastic! I'm glad you're happier with your hair today.

  • Amy replied 11 years ago

I wish I could pull off a look like this. You look awesome.

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Oh, yay! I am surprised and relieved to see how well this look went over. Pinned! Very cool.

Manidipa, you are so right. I think this is one reason I keep on pinning blondes - I need to either stop that or resign myself to some highlights. Although all of this hair processing costs money, right? :T

Vildy, YES! It was definitely a pain. I took the curls out partway through the night, because I kept stabbing my head with bobby pins. I cannot imagine sleeping with cans on my head... O_O

Kat, thank you. Yes, I always feel better with a plan. I guess that is just my personality.

Diana, something tells me this would gel with your style perfectly. :)

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Janet, I bet you could do it fine! The bagginess hides the thighs IMO - and don't we have similar builds?

  • JR replied 11 years ago

    Love the look!

Please forgive me for laughing a bit at your hair woes. I have the precise opposite problem. I long ago gave up trying to look sleek, but I still wish I could tame the messiness better. Want to swap hair? And why is it we always want what the other has?

FWIW, I have tried to be deliberately messy, and I just end up lopsided most of the time. Some day I'll get the hang of it.

  • replied 11 years ago

Thought I had posted on here but forgot to! I love this Rae. It looks great! I really want to find a taller pair of buckle shaft boots because I love these with the boyfriends!

Thanks for being my fellow BF + boots inspiration!

  • cobaltblue replied 11 years ago

This looks great! I'm happy to hear that you are coming to terms with the new haircut. I'm patiently standing in line with several others, happy to trade in my easily-mussed hair.

  • ironkurtin replied 11 years ago

    You're always adorable, Rae!

For texture, I like Hair Resort by Kevin Murphy on wet hair and No.4 glossy modeling putty from Davines for dry hair. Neither are cheap but you don't need much to get messy texture.
