Can't-Be-Bothered Casual Dress and Crumbling Sandals

I can't really call this a Fast Fall-Back Outfit, because I took my sweet time zombie-ing around the apartment this morning, but it's not something I would normally wear, either. Not much thought went into it except that, hey, it's too hot outside for pants.

I wore this to go return the Brooks Brothers trench to Beverly Hills (had to learn the hard way the other day that Century City no longer offers any free parking duration at all). Amy, the wonderful sales associate who helped me order the size 2 and even got me free shipping on it, was there. I felt bad telling her that the 2 pulled across the hips, but what can I do except request her the next time I order from BB? Now that I'm in sales, I feel a definite need to be loyal to good service.

After that, I got some groceries at Trader Joe's and came home to take my pills, which I'd forgotten earlier. I still want to go back out and get away from the house, but I'm not sure what to do with myself, lol.

We'll see what shakes loose!

P.S. You can see I'm still wearing my Worishofer wedges, which have chunks of cork missing. The comfort is far superior to my Luckys, unfortunately. I wish I had seen this gold version earlier!

I was expecting some sort of thrown-together outfit from your post title, and instead you look stunning and glamorous! You trickster!

That dress looks wonderful on you, and I have been admiring those funky Worishofer sandals. If they're falling apart you might just have to replace them with the gold ones, don't you think?

  • replied 10 years ago

Great dress! Too bad your sandals are falling apart :(

  • Thistle replied 10 years ago

From the title, I was expecting something "thrown together" not out of this world fab!!!  You look amazing, and I love the sandals.  Any way they can be repaired?

  • Mo replied 10 years ago

yeah, I was thinking, ratty t-shirt dress or something.  Nice!  Too bad about the shoes.  Maybe you can find the gold searching eBay.

  • Inge replied 10 years ago

I love that dress on you, Rae. You look wonderful, so wonderful that I think you should definitely go out there again today:-)

I was going to suggest the same thing as Mo: perhaps you can still find the sandals on eBay? Holding thumbs!

  • rachylou replied 10 years ago

I was expecting a raggedy t-shirt dress! What is this slick outfit? Go back and try again! You look too good.

  • rae replied 10 years ago

Ummm... looks like the gold color is exclusive to DNA footwear, and according to Amazon there are only 5 left in my size. Only $70, but I've spent a lot lately... *anguish*

  • Inge replied 10 years ago

My two cents: I think these sandals are worth it, Rae! You've obviously been thinking about this gold version because you love it. Plus you continue to wear your old Worishofers even when they are slowly falling aprt because the comfort level is outstanding. When you love a shoe, and it is that comfy, and the option to get another pair still exists, then I say go for it!!-)

  • replied 10 years ago

Yeah, I remember those shoes from the meet-up two years ago. They must be comfy because we did a lot of walking! YLF in your gorgeous LBD. That is what spies wear with their sunnies when it's too hot for a trench. ;)

  • ElleH replied 10 years ago

What everyone else said. You look way too fab for a thrown together outfit.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

Hmmmm...when I "can't be bothered" I sure as heck don't look ANYTHING close to this good!!!

Gorgeous dress on you Rae and may I say, you have lovely shoulders.

Totally echoing Inge re: the gold sandals. If it fits in the budget, I would seriously consider buying them. Based on your experience with your current pair, you know it wouldn't be a mistake.

  • Peri replied 10 years ago

Rae this is totally unfair. Your can't be bothered is better than my trying really hard.

  • Diana replied 10 years ago

Yeah, I was totally expecting a frump-a-dump too-short or too-wide dress too.  (Or maybe I am just projecting... I have a whole pile of frumpy housedresses that aren't really fit to see the light of day but are super comfy for lounging).

I think you should buy the sandals.  Obviously you know you will wear them a lot, and comfort trumps everything.  Plus I assume then you'd get rid of this crumbling pair so it would be one in, one out.  Although, wow, that nude of your current pair is an excellent nude.  (And now i am thinking about Worishofers too...)

  • rae replied 10 years ago

Ok, you have convinced me to get the gold ones, and I found a $10 off coupon code. Done!

I still wish I could repair the nude ones. They are otherwise holding up very well. Seems sad to ditch the nice leather uppers.

  • Cindy replied 10 years ago

Okay, if that is "can't be bothered", I can't wait to see an outfit that you have put effort into! LOL

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Uh...this was NOT what I expected at all! In fact, I delayed opening the thread. I was on phone duty all day at work and thought maybe I would need better concentration to compose a consoling post. LOL. Look what I got instead: Gorgeous, stunning, sophisticated young woman in an absolutely fabulous dress!

    Well, that will teach me.

  • Jaime replied 10 years ago

Agree that your title certainly does not match your gorgeous WIW!

  • Mary Beth (formerly LBD) replied 10 years ago

What the heck??  Your can't-be-bothered beats my spent-a-lot-of-time-on-this-outfit hands-down.    So cute!

Sorry about the BB trench, but at least you found some cute shoes today!

  • merwoman replied 10 years ago

This falls in the category of "bait and switch" - you look amazing Rae!

  • Sarah A replied 10 years ago

Cant be bothered dress? Amazing! This is what I love about a great black summer dress. Put it on and go without pause! Yippee for the new sandal order :)

  • catgirl replied 10 years ago

You look fabulous - I'd like to not bother to look that good myself!  Replace the sandals, for pete's sake.

  • No Fear of Fashion replied 10 years ago

You are my kind of dresser. Looks terrific this little dress. And of course you can dress it up or down. But you knew that already.

  • Beth Ann replied 10 years ago

What could be better than an LBD!  Love the breezy, chic of the dress, Rae, and hope you found found a great way to finish your day!

  • Mia replied 10 years ago

    Perfection!

Love the sandals and cannot find the brand anywhere in my Canadian neck of the woods....might have to risk online after seeing this.

  • goldenpig replied 10 years ago

Rae, I think your post title should have read, "I can't be bothered because I look gorgeous and chic without even trying."

And glad you replaced the crumbling sandals. Replacements don't count in girl math.

  • ManidipaM replied 10 years ago

Oooh, I want to 'not be bothered' like that! FAB times fab! You have convinced me I need a daytime LBD (in a year or two at least!)---I'd given up that project as sour grapes.

As for the sandals, glad you have gold coming, but couldn't you bung in slivers of wine cork to rescue the nude pair? I did that when I scraped a gouge in the heels of my new Clarks wedges last summer.

  • Lisa replied 10 years ago

What a great "thrown on" look.  I never would have guessed it was a fast outfit.  So chic!  And I really like those wedges!

  • rae replied 10 years ago

Well, thank you, ladies! I did not know it would go over this well. I guess this is one quality dress, to provide a good look even when I'm in a funk mentally and can't see the flattery myself.

Manidipa... that is a really. awesome. idea! Darn, I just threw out a wine cork the other day, too. And I don't buy wine often. Might have to make a "sacrifice" and buy another bottle. lol.

  • Day Vies replied 10 years ago

Beautiful! I love this shape on you!

  • DonnaF replied 10 years ago

FWIW, Birkenstock used to (& maybe still does) sell stuff to brush on cork soles probably to keep it from crumbling.  It seemed like it was identical to craft glue -- like Elmer's.  It dried to a bit of a low sheen like white glue.  Maybe you can try that as a stop-gap measure?

  • Thistle replied 10 years ago

I was expecting something that looked thrown together, but this is waaay too fab for that!  terrific outfit. Sorry about the shoes and lack of free parking.
