Career Commando

Working in the DFS career center today and giving interview tips. Not the most corporate look, but my stance is that I Am In Fashion Now. I would like to wear these pants to work, too... What do you think?

In other news, DH commented that the things I wear now are not as flattering as things I used to wear (more bootcuts etc). I started to reply that, "Well, when I was wearing that I was also 20 lbs lighter...."

Wait a minute, did I really gain 20 lbs in the last ten years??? No wonder DH thinks my clothes make me look bigger. BLEAH!

The weird part is that I still wear pretty small sizes. Only 1 to 2 sizes difference. I don't lift weights, so I doubt it is all muscle weight. Bodies ever remain a mystery to me. :-(

Where do you hide those lbs? I can't see them. Same thing has happened to me, though. I've gained around the same since I had my first child in -94, but I'm basically still wearing the same size as always. Weird. I also have had to let go of too tight pants, skirts etc, so this is a mystery to me.

You look fantastic as you are now, and you carry every pound with flair.

You look gorgeous, what a super cute outfit :)

Rae, I feel the same and on top of that my body has changed - I think I used to have more of a waist and I was definitely more fit. I have to be much more deliberate now if I am going for pure flattery, which is why I often don't take that route.

But rest assured you look fantastic! I don't see how you or *lyn who has also mentioned a 20 pound difference, could lose 20 pounds! You are gorgeous!

I think it is the natural tendency of most bodies to gain some weight over the years, especially after you are 30 and even more so if you have had children. I watch my weight and try to control it, so far reasonably well as I am 'only'  about 6 pounds heavier now (48) than I was at 20.

Rae, whenever I see your outfits the first adjective that comes to mind is always "cool" and then I notice how cohesive and stylish you look. So I don't really get the flattery thing, because I think you still look cool and stylish.

Rae, you look beautiful. I can't imagine you 20 lbs thinner, and I think your outfits always flatter you.

People who gain pretty evenly all over often won't change size in clothing for quite a while. The clothes may fit differently, though.

Love this! You always look so slim! I assure you 20 lbs on me would be hard to miss! You are perfect as is!

What a great, modern outfit for someone who has achieved their goal of a job "In Fashion"! I'll bet you're quite an inspiration to everyone you counseled at DFS. And FWIW, I had been wondering if you had a "skinny mirror" at home since your BB trench coat looked so much slimmer on you than mine did on me. Then I just decided that you had lost weight. Go figure. You look great, anyway! I love those shoes.

Your pictures on your site are lovely!

Interesting observation.  It may be that your dh's perspective is quite different from ours because he has a longer frame of reference.  I've definitely noticed in the last 6 months or so that you had either lost weight or hit some sort of groove that had you looking consistently, beautifully sleek.  I really had thought you'd lost a bit, but either way, I think you've been looking smashing lately!  I do understand, however, if dh's opinion counts for a wee bit more than mine;)

Bodies! Sheesh! If I didn't need one to experience sex and bacon I would be a ball of energy right now.

Career Commando, you can dress me anytime. This camo is playful and dressy, I can't believe you made it do that! I'll bet the DFS participants smiled from ear to ear when they saw you, because they knew they were in good hands. You keep surprising me, in a very good way.

I'm not sure that was very nice of DH! He may just be commenting on style though...like he liked pasts years trends more than current trends. Men get stuck in a look and often don't like new styles.

I'm going through something similar though. I gained about 8 pounds over the summer...partly because I was depressed all last year from a health problem and got really skinny. So in reality, I'm just back to my normal weight or just a few pounds over. Obviously pants I bought last year are too tight, but I don't get why pants I bought two years ago when I was about the same weight I am now also feel too tight. Same pounds, different shape. GRRRR!!!!

My experience as the years go by.....same weight....different location...something called gravity!

Rae, you are so my new style idol. I love this casual yet professional look!

And you gained 20 lbs??? Really? You look like you haven't changed! Although I'm much like you. 20 lbs ago, I was only a dress size or two down. Weird how the body works.

Btw, your last WIW with your green drapey top really inspired me that I finally bought a similar top in two colours. One of these days, there will be a WIW.

    Love your outfits girl!

  • Karie replied 10 years ago

Well now, 20 lbs. ago you must have been invisible! I think you look fantastic, and I love all your outfits.

  • Deborah replied 10 years ago

Lol, Rae I am quite happy to swap my body for your gorgeous long legs and slender frame :)  I find boys get very set in their ways and often find change challenging so maybe he is just used to how you dressed before the is still aclimatising to the development in your style.
