Colorblocking for the Introvert

I am having kind of a down day today, so I am officially escaping into YLF land for lunch.

Color and colorblocking has been coming up on the forum lately, so here is a take that feels colorful to me without making me feel too loud, too cheerful, or too girlie. Eggplant with blood red and heather gray. No jewelry.

On a side note, these skirts are on sale at H& M for $5! My old ones are completely stretched out at the bottom, so I got two of these in each color. Adjusted budget accordingly. E.g. less to spend on sandals this summer.

Guess jacket - ebay
Madewell tank - Madewell
H&M skirt - H&M
Report booties - Amazon

Rae - don't you look totally adorable!!  chic, elegant, relaxed!!  Love the faux tuck with the moto and how ithe teepeeks out from under the hem.  You have such a great sense of proportion.  Booties look great with it.  Simply fab!!

    So cute!!!

Great outfit! I love the color blocking. Your hair is looking great too!

I like the ease of this.  You led me down the H&M rabbit hole to leather pants, by the way!  Which skirts are these?  I would like to replace my tiered Leifsdottir jersey.

Perfection. It's moody colorblocking - reminds me that colorblocking isn't just about bright contrast.

Very cute Rae! I hope your day gets better.

Love the color blocking on you, and those skirts are sure to be workhorses. Always a good sign when you are repurchasing something because you wore it to death!

  • Helena replied 10 years ago

I love that - it looks amazing!

I was thinking about the whole color/introvert thing - so funny to come across this. I always thought I didn't like color, but I've been trying some deeper shades lately and I love them ... it occurred to me that maybe there was a connection between my color choices and my introversion ... thanks for sharing this!

Great look. I wish my H&M had these!!

    Killer

The shoes and bag make it for me. So fab. And hugs. Hope you have a better day tomorrow. xo

Love these shades together! I've never really been drawn to color blocking, but would completely wear a version like this. Which kinda makes sense, considering the thread title.

You look fantastic - feel better!

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

You look terrific, Rae. I think colour blocking is do-able for introverts for sure. I do it, after all! :)  Hope you feel better soon.

    Really nice.

That bag seems like it would add cheer to any outfit! It is so cute. I love it with the red of the topper.

  • Deborah replied 10 years ago

Definitely my kind of colour blocking!  Looks great, and I am sorry you are feeling down today.  Sending you some positive thoughts :)

  • annagybe replied 10 years ago

Sorry about your down day. You look nice though.

  • pil replied 10 years ago

Kind of a quiet colorblocking that looks great on you, and I never tire of seeing that bag!

  • Sveta replied 10 years ago

Rae, I am officially in love with your style lately. You look adorable indeed!
Sorry for the down day, at least it is a warm one (saying she battling frigid cold on the way to work...)

I love this outfit and your take on color-blocking! That red jacket is awesome on you.

  • Missey replied 10 years ago

Why, you look positively wonderful!  I can't even tell you're having a bad day...nice camouflage!  ;)

  • Beth Ann replied 10 years ago

Hope your day ended on a better note --- love this midi on you, and I don't remember the jacket --- it's color and shape are marvelous.

  • CocoLion replied 10 years ago

Well, here is another great outfit with flattering proportions & colors all done with trending pieces. You make dressing for work look so easy Rae!!! (Making mental note to ask you more about this in a few weeks…)

This skirt is beautiful.  I'm going to be near an H&M tomorrow-- I need to have a look.  They may not last forever but if you get 5 wears from it that's a great CPW.  Even 3 wears works.  I have some tees and jackets from H&M that have held up incredibly well.  And what I love about H&M, Target and Zara pieces is if they don't work out, I have no issue throwing them in the donate pile without a second thought.

I know you are coming on the anniversary (poor choice of wording I know) of a super traumatic event, I hope you give yourself lots of credit for being the beautiful amazing strong woman you are.

Hmm. So close cousins for colours plus neutrals in plural. As you can imagine, I am taking notes here.

Looks smashing, Rae! How come I don't remember that great jacket??

What other colours did you get in the skirt?

  • rae replied 10 years ago

Thank you for the pick-me-up, ladies. I don't want to dwell on it, but I basically lost a really big sale I had been working on for a while. I had spent time researching and recommending something, but then my client popped in when she had unexpected time and bought it from another SA. Trying to focus on the fact that the suggestion worked out... the commission is secondary, really, I'm just bummed that it comes across as a failure "on paper." :T

Mo, I don't see the skirt on the website anymore. If you happen by a store, it should be in the 75% off section. Usually a big row of racks by the front.

Sveta, yes, the weather reports have been mind-boggling. Grateful for our weather here for sure.

Denise, thank you for remembering. It has been on my mind a lot lately, and I think it has been adding a bit of depression on top of legitimate irritation.

  • rae replied 10 years ago

Mani, the only other color the skirt came in was black - I would have secured more if I could! The jacket was a relatively new purchase for holiday type store events (we usually have to wear black white and red for sales).

  • catgirl replied 10 years ago

Argh! Don't you still get credit? I always take the number of the SA who helps me with anything so I can ring up items based on who found them. Ugh....

  • rae replied 10 years ago

No, I don't get any credit or commission at all, as if I never spoke to her. :T I keep wondering what I should have done differently.

  • Joyce B replied 10 years ago

That's a very nice outfit and what a great price you paid for the skirt!

  • Freckles replied 10 years ago

    Stunning Rae.

I always love the bag you carry, they add so much quiet oomph to your style.  Still remembering that map bag I adored.

  • rachylou replied 10 years ago

I really like this outfit, Rae. It may be one of most faves of yours. So simple, but fresh. You look really good.

  • replied 10 years ago

    very cute!
As far as the commission, I think you have to be more upfront. I would say... "I hope I can help you with the sale as well. Unfortunately, I work for commission" but in a nicer way.
    I'm sorry... that sucks...
