Crabby in My Bib

Thanksgiving pre-party with DH and my mom, since we will be visiting good friends from out of town on the day-of and family work schedules are all kerfluffled.

Built this outfit around a pair of $20 boots I scored at the flea market during the summer. I really adored how scuffed and whitened they were on the toes and had intended to have them as Serious Cold Weather Gear to wear when visiting my dad. However, I was feeling the chill more acutely today, so I popped them on smack in the middle of a sunny SoCal day. Loose layers required for eating copious amounts of crab and crawfish.

Great layering and the bib only adds to the charm!

Yum to the crabs. But I need to avert my eyes from the Uggs.

They are too ubiquitous here in all their salt-stained reality and remind me of slush, overheated classrooms, and leggings worn as pants. This is a poison eye.

I love your bag, though. And I do love your OTHER Uggs. <ducking to hide>

Aw, poor boots! lol. I hear you... distressing and salt stains are definitely more of a "design choice" here in LA than in other parts of the world. They are real outdoor shoes, though, not slippers. Slim and fitted with a side zip and engineer straps. Not that I'm trying to change your mind; just thought it might not come through in the photos.

I have the same issue for Uggs as Suz. Or medical students wearing them to clinical. I want to talk to them about it - and have "words" :p

    Mmm. Crabs. Mmmm!

Very cute, especially the bib! And is even kinda like the Uggs, which is amazing because they are one of my personal poison eyes too. Maybe it is because they are black and fully structured (for Uggs).

Sorry, I'm with the fabbers who have a poison eye for the uggs.  I live in a part of the world where I only wear boots like this for shoveling snow or running errands where recent snow and salt will ruin other footwear.  That being said, I love the rest of the outfit.  And I love to see how our geography makes a difference in what we feel fab in.

I'm a yay sayer.  I actually like those uggs.  I really, really, really dislike the slipper uggs that are worn out as shoes but those look like boots made for living life at it's best.  Long walks on the beach and such.  I'm also not a hug fan of layering for the sack of layering but I like the layering of those shirts a lot for some reason.  I think it's the color play and the cool angles.

I live in Minnesota, and Uggs are everywhere. But they are the slipper Uggs that Tracina mentioned--and I have a poison eye for them. But THESE Uggs...I have never seen Uggs like this before. These look like regular boots. I give them two thumbs up! Walk around with your head held high!

A fun, relaxed look! And is that your Burberry over the top of it all? Hope you had a great pre-T-day get-together.

  • rae replied 10 years ago

Thanks for chiming in, everyone! Firecracker, yes, that's the Burberry out and about again. :)

I am curious about the poison eyes - is it for all shearling no matter what the style is? Or is it a poison eye for a brand? I added a stock photo of mine up top. I am curious since it's the fist thing everyone's mentioned, and I do have as big a poison eye for slippers-as-shoes as anyone!

I'm jealous of all your fun outings! Japanese gardens, eating crabs...

I think your outfit is quite stylish. I like the boots!

I'm not crazy about the slipper style Uggs...it's not the brand or shearling (I like shearling). For me, it's the shape.

  • replied 10 years ago

For me it's the shape of slipper uggs.  They don't leave any shape to the leg or the foot.  Just blobs of leather.  Even adding a bit a detail (pic 2) doesn't add shape.  The uggs you're wearing show foot and calf shape and definition.

  • catgirl replied 10 years ago

You know I love this, even though my shearling Uggs don't make an appearance until it's below 20. :)

  • Parsley replied 10 years ago

I don't see any problem with the Uggs. But it's true that they seem like overkill in southern California.

    Crab and crawfish- yummy!

  • rae replied 10 years ago

I guess we must be acclimated to the warmth... Shearling boots are worn a lot here!

  • replied 10 years ago

Shhhh, but I actually like the slipper Uggs. I've secretly always wanted a pair. I don't see them too much around here, just on high school girls, but I think they're cute! I would totally wear them in my house or apres ski, but they aren't high on my need to acquire list!

Okay, about your Uggs and outfit. I like! I love that your getting Monsieur Burberry out for a spin again. And what a deal you got on those boots. You have the eye for quality at a great price. When I visited, I noticed what Marley meant when she said it often feels colder than the temperature in L.A. There is a dampness in the air from the ocean that goes through to your bones, even though the sun might be shining. I can totally see why you're such a boot person. Here in Phoenix, it's borderline where you'd get hot in them by afternoon, but not there. Rock on, super spy!

  • Sarah A replied 10 years ago

I like the boot and the the fun layering is great against the structured bag. FWIW, true shearling, as opposed to synthetic varieties used in cheaper slippers etc, is quite a good temperature regulator in both warmer and cooler climates so it doesnt suprise the the real stuff is comfy in CA.

Nice outfit, I like the boots.

  • Beth replied 10 years ago

I think you look adorable, and I'll put in a candy eye for the satchel. That is a darling bag in the perfect size. :)

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

Love the layering in your tops - including the bib! But I'm afraid I'm in the "I'm not crazy about Uggs" camp :(
