Custom jeans on order!

I'd been in the market for some slim work jeans, so when I came across another custom jeans site, I had to take a look. Great distraction from back/insurance issues, too.

I'll write a real review once I get them, but so far I really like the UI. I didn't see this when I was designing, but when you look at other people's designs they also have an ASOS-like catwalk feature that shows the fit of the jeans on a model - nice! They also have a cool feature that lets you put your design up for sale, so that you get some of the profit if your design sells.

Here's the pair I've done - pretty simple compared to some of the others but, sometimes, that is the hardest thing to find in a jean: http://getwear.com/women/3905/

I will definitely share detailed results!

Those look like the Rae Jean for sure! How long does the process take? Will be fun to see the end result.

My husband just ordered some custom jeans from this company. We were both very pleased with the end result. It did take 2 efforts to get the fit right, but the company is very good to work with -- very customer oriented. Hope yours work out well!

It says they take about a week to make them, and then they Fedex them over in about 3 days.

Jamie, that is encouraging! Fingers crossed for a similar experience.

Playing around with the design tools is so. much. fun. Just cranked these out for giggles.

It will be such fun to have jeans you've designed yourself. I really like my button fly Lucky jeans because there's no zipper to worry about. Your style has a great chance of catching on. Around here, if you added some embroidered skulls they would be a sure thing!

Awesome! I played around with the site a bit and it seems very promising. Can't wait to read your review. I'm particularly interested in seeing what the fabric is like - in my opinion, the superior wash, hand, and quality of the fabric is the one thing that makes premium vs cheap jeans.

Ooh, fun - seems like a good way to get JUST what you want. Anxiously awaiting your review...

  • rae replied 12 years ago

Amen, Diana. The pics on their facebook page look very promising - especially the rips, which are a freakin art form - so easy to get horridly wrong. I saw this article yesterday, which says they use premium denim, Japanese zippers, and European rivets... big talk to live up to!

I cannot wait to hear your review.

Small update: I was my usual picky, controlling self when I submitted this order - in the comments section, I wrote out some back pocket measurements based on my favorite jeans... I figured they'd either ignore that part or just go by the measurements, but I received an email this am asking me for photos of the pockets I like. Hopes: rising.

Rae, I love you! (Insert BIG hug here.) Getting just the right size for the back pockets is something that I can completely appreciate! I've made Nordstrom go in and taper my pencil skirts tighter so that I look curvier, so you are a girl after my own heart. Little details make a big difference. You are a super smart shopper!

Don't get your hopes too high. I ordered a pair of jeans from Getwear and they were the worst jeans I've ever worn! The rise was super high and conservative (even though I picked a low rise), and waistband was at least 4 inches too big. Fabric was poor quality, and the wash was cheap looking. Worst of all, back pockets were basically on the side of the jeans and were way too awkward and small for my body (size 10-12). I'm really curious to hear if yours turn out better.

  • rae replied 12 years ago

beccamf, thanks for the warning! I'm sorry yours didn't work out. :( I was afraid of something like this, so I told them exactly how high to make the front and back rise (was shocked they didn't ask for rise measurements!) and also sent them measurements and pictures for back pocket placement. Sounds like I was right to be controlling!

  • beccamf replied 12 years ago

Ya, I wish I had given them more instructions. I'm curious to see if yours turn out better than mine did with some extra guidance. I thought about trying to exchange mine, but I'm fairly sure these jeans are past the point of saving.

I'm familiar with a couple other custom denim brands too, like 3 x 1 (has a store in NYC) and indicustom (online). Wondering, does anyone have experience with these?

What a dream! To have custom jeans at that good a price! Can't wait to see you model them!

  • rae replied 12 years ago

This is the best review I've seen for indicustom:

I tried their design process but never felt confident about the washes and never placed an order.

Hi, I'm Yaakov Karda, Getwear CSO & Co-founder. I'm so pleased to see that you like our design tool and the website! If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

@Rae, thanks for starting this thread, I hope that you like your jeans. I agree that "the talk is big" and it's all honest. We are 100% committed to bringing truly premium quality jeans to the market at a reasonable price. I can't be sure, but I doubt there are other manufacturers who make jeans the way we are doing.

@Jamie Thank you for your words! I'm so glad that your husband is happy with his pair.

@Rebecca (Beccamf), I'm really sorry to hear about your experience! We guarantee perfect fit and make free replacements if customer is not fully satisfied. We even asked you for feedback once you got the jeans, right? Please send an e-mail to support@getwear.com and we'll guide you through the process. I'm really surprised to hear that you didn't like the fabric, since we only use best ones available on the market.
