Day to Night, the Rae Way

The pics are reversed (wanted the night outfit as my blog cover photo), but now that I look at them, I think most people would wear them in the opposite order as I did, anyway!

For daytime at work, I wore my shiny Gibson blazer over a black asymmetrical tunic and gray Really Skinny trousers. Initially chose black shoes, but once again I felt that the Report booties gave more of a Spring feeling by approximating a bare-skinned look. I liked the outfit, but it was SO very uncomfortable to work in - I felt like I was wearing plastic all day. Trying to decide whether to keep it to wear over party dresses or purge. Ugh, me and my issues with breathability...

To go grab some dinner with DH, I changed into a more casual and comfy jacket but kept the rest the same. I initially questioned whether the highly-embellished jacket was still "me," but I like it over plain, simple items like these. Plus, I have to love that unlined, 100% cotton fabrication!

Fab!  I like them both, but I really love #1. So you!

I totally understand the breathability issue. The wrapped in plastic feel is not for me either. Love both outfits.

Was the jacket not breathable?  I was just wondering about whether it was one of those "no longer you" items, although I love it on you.  Love both looks - the second is nice and moody, if that's not a contradiction.

Both looks are great. If that blazer isn't breathable then it won't work and you won't reach for it, no matter how pretty it is. Armour needs ventilation :)

Ooh, I love both. Bummer about the green jacket though... I was considering it at the same time as the bellatrix but a lot of reviewers didn't like the fabric. Would it work as a more outerwear jacket?

These are both great, Rae! But to feel like you are wearing plastic doesn't sound appealing at all!

I love how you styled 'our' jacket here!  I agree that I am also trending toward more streamlined pieces, but that one busy item can work beautifully on a back drop of simple pieces.

I was astonished to think that you wore #1 to work. That's too bad about the jacket. It's really super cute.

Look at you strike that blogger pose in #1! (Which I know is the second outfit of the day). WOW!! KILLER look!

I vote pass on the Gibson jacket.

Both look fab, but I was immediately drawn to the jacket in 2, I love it. It sounds comfy too. You look great!

Love them both!  I too was attracted to the jacket in #2.

Like them both.  The printed jacket looks great and I find it hard to find one that works, even though they appeal for a change.

I love that both outfits use green. Maybe I'm in the minority but I think that #1 would work day or night (depending on where you're going). Maybe I'm biased because I like #1 more?

Both are terrific, Rae, but if something makes you feel unfab - let it go!!

I'm loving #1, and I hope that's not the sweaty jacket. I am 100% through with things that look fab but feel uncomfortable. I'm unable to feel myself in them and I think my physical discomfort comes across, and even influences my mood and how I act.

I really like the Gibson jacket, but if it isn't breathable or comfortable, I would let it go :(
  • pil replied 10 years ago

Very nice, Rae! Love #1 and agree with the others about letting #2 go. I know you sell on ebay, but do you have some sort of style exchange at work?

Sorry the Gibson jacket is uncomfortable, because it looks amazing on you!  The way you have substantively changed the feel of these outfits with just the change of a jacket is  like something out of a magazine editorial.
