Galaxy Moto is here - now with DAY lighting

So to be honest I wasn't expecting to like this when I ordered it. So many times I'll order and it will be easily eliminated.

But this jacket is really well made. Similarly to the neoprene Zara I tried on at Shoptoberfest, I like how crisp it is. The lining is also more of a mesh; not that sticky polyester garbage bag feeling.

Styled simply as if for work... what do you think, honestly? Do I come across as too silly or out there? I would probably also style it with navy and charcoal gray.

There are two prints: one with more citron, one with more pink. DH likes them but doesn't like the pink as much. For reference for anyone else mulling it over, I got the size M. I probably could also wear a small, but the M gives more ventilation.

ETA: I'm open to returning both if it looks too teenybopperish for me.

EATA: Here are some pics with an actual, well-powered light source. The jacket colors are much more true to life here. I have eliminated the other pattern because my gut tells me hot pinks and blues are way less me than the oranges and yellows in this one.

Please excuse the mirror spots that seem to appear in one pic and (see, cameras reveal all where the naked eye FAILS!)

Wow that's some signature piece.  How do you feel in it?

  • Mo replied 10 years ago

All the pics are looking sepia toned on my screen.  Very hard to make out the colors.  But I love the idea of a galaxy print . . . just can't see the details on this one lol.

  • Echo replied 10 years ago

I really like this, but I have a strong preference for the one without the distracting white spot on the front. The pattern seems more subdued and easier to wear on the other jacket (the one without the spot). Perhaps that is the one with more pink, so I guess my opinion is at odds with your DH.

  • rae replied 10 years ago

Mo, it's this jacket. I can try to take more pics in daylight, too.

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Reserving judgement until I can see a bit better. Don't you hate this winter light? Argh. A nightmare to get good photos.

  • Mary Beth (formerly LBD) replied 10 years ago

I'd like to see some daylight photos as well - but from what I see here, I already really love this jacket on you!  The galaxy motif thrills the secret inner Sheldon Cooper of my soul.

(edited because a thought just occurred to me... )

I guess the real question is... does this jacket thrill you when you look at yourself in it?

  • deb replied 10 years ago

I like it but better pics would be good.

  • Sveta replied 10 years ago

It is kind of cool...I see Echo's point about the light "moon" on the front, somehow I also prefer the other print - #7

  • catgirl replied 10 years ago

Well, I am a big fat yay.  I assume the colors are more similar to the site, and the moon does not bother me - it's a galaxy print, right?  I am excited for you.  Did you order two?

  • Marley replied 10 years ago

Hmmm . . . I'm just not sure.  The light in the pics just doesn't look right, so its really tough to see the colors and the print.  Can you show it to us in better light?

  • rae replied 10 years ago

Ok, I took some better photos (posted up top). The jacket colors are much more true to life here. I have eliminated the other pattern because my gut tells me hot pinks and blues are way less me than the oranges and yellows in this one.

Please excuse the mirror spots that seem to appear in one pic. Also, my post-workout hair and makeup.

For those who asked, I *feel* pretty great in this jacket. The weight and drape make it feel expensive to me, which counteracts the the youthful colors a bit. It's really comfortable, too, and the sleeves stay rolled/scrunched.

Also, FWIW, I am selling the rose gold Muubaa. Yes, even though the SoCal Shoptoberfesters told me never to do it. It is literally too flashy for my personality and I could never get myself to step out the door in it. So this could take its place as a statement moto. Somehow it seems less in your face when I have it on.

Una, yes, I ordered both of the Ms on Amazon because I saw that pattern placement would be different on each one.

  • DonnaF replied 10 years ago

This is pretty amazing; I hope you keep it.  And tell me about those shoes.  Have we seen them before?

  • catgirl replied 10 years ago

Okay, could you hang onto the other M for a couple of days?  I ordered one too and I'd like to compare in case one sings to me.  I really shouldn't have...  I agree, orange and yellow is more you!  I like it even more in the new pics.  And good quality helps counter the youth factor (though you are young, my dear!).

  • rae replied 10 years ago

Ack, final question... the back view... do the two center planets look like a butt? o_0

    DH says no.

Una, sure I can hold onto it. Did you order from Amazon, too? I wish I had a whole rack of different pattern placement options to choose from.

  • catgirl replied 10 years ago

Haha!  Are you worried about mooning?  I don't think so.  I will let you know as soon as mine arrives - I may not be justified in keeping it, but I couldn't resist!

  • Marley replied 10 years ago

I think it sounds like a keeper to me - you love galaxy prints, and you feel good in this - and you're getting rid of a jacket!  So, it's pretty much a no-brainer, IMHO!

  • Scarlet replied 10 years ago

No it does not look like a butt. I think it is fun and seems you. I vote keep.

  • Neel replied 10 years ago

Its a statement jacket and and it seems to be in line with your style in the outfit posts that I have seen: Unique and very you!  If you love it ..... keep it.

  • MuseumGal replied 10 years ago

I think it looks great on you. Does it "go" with your beloved stripey bag?

  • Mary Beth (formerly LBD) replied 10 years ago

I like this jacket even more now that I see it in better lighting :)

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

It looks like you. It's a definite statement. If you love it, keep it.

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

I'm another vote for keep. Fun piece. Would love to see daylight pics though.

  • rute replied 10 years ago

so pretty! Love this to wear with a total black look! Love your hair!

  • AviaMariah replied 10 years ago

I hope you're keeping this.  I like how you've styled it with the rest of your outfit simple.

  • rae replied 10 years ago

Daylight pics. Also the back view on me. From this angle I guess there are three moons all in a row, so it doesn't look that much like a butt...

  • Amy replied 10 years ago

    Awesome.

  • modgrl replied 10 years ago

I like the piece from the front and I think it is great for you. But the pattern placement on the back would bug me.

  • rebekahphoto replied 10 years ago

I really like it on you, the print is so cool. I can see in the photos the sharpness of the cut, the shape seems more sophisticated so I feel it offsets any tendencies to feel 'teeny bopper"....nice contrast with the solid skirt/top. 7 so many options for colors to wear it with, depending how bold you feel that day!

  • catgirl replied 10 years ago

Even better in the light!  What I love about this kind of piece (which is not that easy to find) is the combination of color and edge in a pattern I like.  Usually one of the three are missing.

BTW mine should arrive today - not sure it will fit as well as it fits you, but fingers crossed!

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

Thanks for the extra pics. Welcome the new darling into your wardrobe with open arms.

  • cciele replied 10 years ago

I love how sharp this moto looks, and the print is amazing! So totally you, Rae.

  • rachylou replied 10 years ago

It looks very professional, fits with your galaxy theme. I vote keep.

I'll note tho that I, personally, don't actually see it as a statement piece exactly. Or I see it as a very modest statement piece, everyday wear. That may say something about the wild and woolly environment in which I exist. I don't know.

  • Thistle replied 10 years ago

Remember I am from the conservative midwest and not ultra cool SoCal. So, consider that when I go against the grain here.

I would return. It is fun, but it has a very young and not altogether professional vibe to it. I really feel like your style is too evolved for this piece. I have seen you in a lot of sleek sophisticated pieces with a hint of fun to them (like your kitty flats). This does not have the same vibe to me.

  • deb replied 10 years ago

    A definite keep!

  • unfrumped replied 10 years ago

I was prepared to react more like Thistle, but I rather like it. I think you are maybe the one person who can pull it off! Something about the deeper background tones and your coloring make it work, and the sharp cut. If trying to juxtapose then you'd keep the other outfit elements as high quality and polished as possible, and mostly neutral.

  • Mochi replied 10 years ago

    You're selling the muubaa?! Nooooooooooooooooooo...

I haven't really followed this discussion or others' comments. I like this jacket too. But geez, how is it not flashy, if flashy is objectionable? It is an attention-grabber. Again, you do look great in it. But to me it's not subtle.

  • Mochi replied 10 years ago

Never mind--who can exIn these things? It's a beautiful jacket. Enjoy!

  • Beth Ann replied 10 years ago

We must remember to have fun with fashion.  I think this would be easy for you to "dress up" for work and also for wearing in your off hours.  Yes, you're a grown up, but you have a rocker-chic, sci-fi-video-gamer-geek side too, don't you!

What a sophisticated and fun way to represent this part of your personality!

(P.S. Daylight pics helped a lot)

  • rae replied 10 years ago

Nancy, the Muubaa is literally flashy. It throws a lot of light and sparkle and makes me feel very conspicuous. I really thought about saving it for holidays or about chopping the sleeves to 3/4 length to make the shiny area a little bit smaller... but I feel like that's not something I want to aim for with an expensive piece.

What do you think, is it better to work with the Muubaa instead of the galaxy print?

  • catgirl replied 10 years ago

Can we see the Muubaa and the galaxy moto side by side?  I don't think they compare as they are two different aesthetics.  I really like both, FWIW.

  • peacechick replied 10 years ago

I vote keep on the galaxy and sell on the Muuba. The Muuba is sophisticated but the rose gold is pretty flashy and so hard to match. The galaxy piece is just pure fun in my opinion. It doesn't have to be a permanent part of your wardrobe. You could just wear it until it doesn't make you happy anymore.

  • rae replied 10 years ago

Side by side... but imagine the Muubaa glittering.

  • Aida replied 10 years ago

As you know I haven't been around so I have missed a lot of your move towards Classic (it seems you are still on that path?). But to me the galaxy jacket just seems more Rae. Are you more into moto/biker jackets these days? They both have elements of flash to them, but for some reason on you the galaxy print seems less flashy. I can definitely see how you would be more comfortable relegating the rose gold jacket to an event jacket but that seems like a shame. I adore it though, WOW! (Hi Rae! :D )

  • Echo replied 10 years ago

I was probably the only one, but I never particularly cared for the Muubaa. The Galaxy print looks fantastic on you, and I very much prefer the cut on it compared to the Muubaa. Seeing them side-by-side makes it even clearer to me; if one of them has to go, it should NOT be that Galaxy print.

  • catgirl replied 10 years ago

Argh.  I still think they are just.... different.  If you won't wear the Muubaa, there is no point in keeping it.  If I could wear that color, I would gladly take it off your hands!

  • Neel replied 10 years ago

I like both too! No help to you I know!

  • Day Vies replied 10 years ago

I love the structure. I love the shoes you paired this jacket with. I am surprised I love this look so much. I know I have not been the biggest fan of galaxy gear but this is too too fabulous.

  • Scarlet replied 10 years ago

I am strongly on the side of the galaxy.
