Inspired by those 90s Calvin Klein Jeans ads + minor hair trim

I had asked for help fitting these 100% cotton skinnies a while back, and most voted for the larger size based on comfort. However, I had this niggling feeling and started wearing both pair around the house for chores and such that required movement, and they both stretched just enough to make my decision easier. Ended up with my normal size after all! Still a little stiff, but the waist doesn't gape and they aren't difficult to move around or sit in.

And because I'm a total 90s girl at heart, I had to wear these with a plain white tank. :) Worn out to get my hair trimmed so it's neat for upcoming wedding and trip to see Dad, then threw on my army jacket while grocery shopping.

Close-ups on the hair - I'm back to my regular gal after saving some $ at the Sassoon academy last time. Added some wax to get some separation on the ends.

Elie Tahari linen blend tank - $1 at flea market
Men's belt - flea market
Protolab Cycle jeans - Yoox
Report Marks booties - Amazon
Elizabeth & James sunnies - Nordies

Very nice. I like the cut and the wax makes it separate nicely. I have never used wax before. Does it weigh your hair down?

I think the fit of your new jeans is good and I like how you styled them in a simple but very chic way, yes very CK! Your hair is lovely Rae and it looks so glossy. You Gorgeous lady!

We could photoshop you right into that ad and no one would know the difference!

You rock that look - I'm a 90s girl myself, and there are times where I could wear this for weeks on end.

So perfect!  Love the haircut and the wax really does add some sassiness. And yes, you could have stepped right out of that ad!

OMG. LOVE those jeans. Do they have any more? I need to go look. Somehow I missed the post about these.

Your hair looks amazing and you are heart-breakingly beautiful.

I love blue jeans and a plain white shirt.  Your hair looks great!  I use wax on my hair too to show the texture.  I love how simple it is to use and how it doesn't really feel like I've used any product.

The jeans look great with those booties. Love your hair!

I suspect I'm a few years older than you, but oh how I love the white t+ jeans combo!! Piecey ends look great, too.  I never think about what styling them like that entails, thanks for the info on the wax.

I remember those ads!  This is like the quintessential California casual look, and I think the booties make it modern too.  It's a perfect look for you.

    Love the hair!

Wow, I guess that is the power of a classic - from the 90s to the teens, and still not a totally dated look. Pretty cool.

Amiable, IKWYM! In fact, I'm pretty sure I did wear some version of this a lot back then. Jeans and a plain tee, anyway. I think I had a pair of boys' Levis and a forest green tee that were especially loved. Back in middle school when my behind could fit into boys' jeans... lol

Suz, these are the jeans. Looks like your size is still around - note the teensy spots of distressing. Also check out the post on sizing... this size would not even button at first, but now they are perfect.

Diana, yes, I think Angie said I have a very California style once. I could definitely see lots of girls wearing the same outfit with flip flops at any given point in history down in Huntington or Newport.

Your hair looks terrific and so does the outfit. My problem with such an outfit is always the contradiction of boots and tank top. It makes the outfit more interesting, but when my feet are hot and my shoulders cold, I am not a happy woman. How do you do this?

Yay for slouchy jeans and a white tank, I lived in this pairing for years.  I really like your laid back easy casual style as much as your work style.  Your hair looks great.  Are you happy with this hair length or are you working towards longer?

  • Scarlet replied 10 years ago

    Looking totally amazing!

  • JulieJohn replied 10 years ago

    Beautiful.

  • rae replied 10 years ago

Greetje, I guess I am the opposite: my feet are almost always cold even if my upper body is warm and needs the ventilation. The booties are also not very warm since they are roomy with a wide ankle opening. I think if I had warmer feet I might go for a nice gladiator sandal, though!

Tracina, I had intended to go longer, but I'm really liking this length now. I think maybe just a tiny bit longer in the front, but keep the back short like this? I love how the shorter back looks with collared jackets.

very cute casual look. Your hair looks great too.

  • RoseandJoan replied 10 years ago

Gorgeous, perfect fit is what elevates this look from everyday to classically stylish.

    Glad you kept the booties.

Love this look, especially with those boots - I think they really bump the outfit up a notch. Also your hair looks fantastic!
