Am I off my nut here? Is this the new trying-too-hard matchy-matchy? I haven't left the house, and I don't have any real reason to today. Just an idea I had for later.

Hmm, I think the black is throwing me off because it is so stark and creates another big color transition. Do you have an ink blue top?
-
amiable replied 11 years ago
HaHa! I love the top, and I love the pants, and I love the idea! I would totally wear it, but I have no idea whether it works. Yeah, I know, I'm no help :)

rae replied 11 years ago
No, I do not. I don't mind the high-contrast, really. Not quite sure if ombre pants and ombre top is too much.

Hehe, love the face ;)
I don't know if it's a "no-no" or not, but I actually don't mind it!

I think you look great (but your expression totally conveys your doubt, lol!)

I kind of love it. Even though I feel like maybe I shouldn't. But I do.
Maybe some gray boots?

It's not so much the ombre, I just don't think the colors go together very well.

I like it. I think the black brings them together as you'd intended since both patterns get darker as they move toward your waist. It's new -- I say give it time if you aren't feeling sure aboit it. But the fit, cut and tones work very well together --not matchy-matchy at all.

I like it too

Well, I love it, but you know how I feel about matchy matchy!

Amy replied 11 years ago
I'm iffy on it. Your expression is cute, though!

Janet replied 11 years ago
I love each individual piece and want to steal them from you, but I don't love them together.

I think that's awesome and gutsy.

I like it, because to me the gradient effect starts with black ( your hair) and ends up in black (The boots), Plus I am suscribing to a new color theory. To me, most colors match when the saturation is similar. This theory is the one known in some circles as the "MaryK paradox".

I like it.

I like the double ombre, but I don't like the black shirt in the middle. What other colours could you wear underneath?
-
rae replied 11 years ago
Hm, other colors... I have the heather gray layering tee I wore yesterday. Also a long-sleeved turquoise layering tee.
I think maybe I won't continue with this experiment. Maybe it would be better with my solid rust skinnies for another take on the verdigris theme I like so much.

I like! I think its very fun - and kind of tongue in cheek. To me, the black works because of your hair color and boots!
-
cciele replied 11 years ago
I like both pieces but am also "eh" about the black in the middle. Look forward to seeing your verdigris interpretations!

Yea, I am iffy too. Though I can't really put my finger on it. It is not something that I would scratch my head and say "What was she thinking" ( well, I wouldn't say that anyway ) but it isn't Rae fab, ka-pow either. It's mediocre.

You're adorable!
I'm with Anna on this one. It's not the double ombre. It's the colours looking not so hot together.
That shirt is a winner on you.

Dang it, you know? I had to come back to say that the more I see it, the more I like it. I hope Angie chimes in on this one.

deb replied 11 years ago
Wear it around the house and see if it grows on you. I do not think it is bad, just not your best.

Really love the gradation meeting at black in the centre, very cool. As to the colours working together I'm not 100% sure, maybe it doesn't even matter as the perception is that they flow. It's like a visual illusion. I have a really tough time pairing anything with burgundy so I'm definitely not the one to assess the colour compatibility. I'm very intrigued by the look. :)

I like both pieces, Rae, and I want to like the total look...but I'm feeling a little thrown by the transition from the blue shirt hem to the black on the pants waist (like sylvie and anna said).
Hmmm.

I'm not sure...I like it...but I'm not sure if I should....but I also don't know why I'm not thrilled with it either.
I like the "MaryK paradox" that Zap talked about! -

Why not! Very 2013.

About
I'm just your average working stiff who loves nice things and hates to pay for them. This blog outlines my efforts to navigate that treacherous shopping/saving divide through swappin', thriftin', and even a little resellin'. Many of the pieces in my wardrobe cost me just $1! We've heard a lot about people "living above their means" in recent years; I'm championing the concept of living large *below* your means - whatever that means for you. :)
