K/R: ALDO Sparkly Armored Disco Boots

I went bananas over these when I saw them online, and even further bananas when ALDO revealed that they do not ship from the store. But Kristin SF came to my rescue and very very kindly picked them up and shipped them to me!

I just got them from the PO Box today, and although they are pretty darned awesome, they are a fair bit more sparkly than they appeared online. Not that I dislike that at all, but it's a little outside my comfort zone... although that might be good to dress things up a bit?

Returns are to original form of payment, so I am posting this under "urgent" thinking if you hate them I would return to Kristin's card in lieu of messing with Paypal-ing back and forth.

I have been a bit under the weather, so there was not tremendous styling effort here. I think a silk blouse would also look nice to echo the sheen on top.

What do you think?

These have a certain disco-ball fabulosity, and they're definitely a statement and a half.

Sometimes a wardrobe needs a statement and a half.  Do you feel like yours does at this moment?  Or are you more in need of workhorse pieces?

I can imagine these being part of a stunning outfit, but can't imagine them being a workhorse.

  • modgrl replied 10 years ago

I remember your disco platform pumps. These are a great upgrade! Do you think you could wear them? I feel like they are photographing in kind of a funny pattern but that they probably look quite uniformly studded in real life. How do you feel about them?

  • viva replied 10 years ago

So hard to give advice about whether or not to keep an item like this, because it is so outside my own comfort zone. They definitely remind of a disco ball, but also of those metal-pin game
things that you can push your hands or face into, to leave an imprint -
they often have them at childrens' museums.

I will tell you this, Rae. I smiled at every pic you posted!  I really love to look at you in these, in every outfit. Super fun and fab.

I loved those on the internet and was hoping someone would buy them so I could enjoy vicariously!  I say keep, they look cool.

  • rae replied 10 years ago

April, I feel like I have great basic workhorses. These would kind of bee like foot jewelry, esp. since I'm not wearing as much regular jewelry.

Rita, good point! I miss my disco pumps; my feet got too big for them after I started retail. :( They are definitely uniformly studded; just catching the light at different angles.

Viva, I actually like the metal pin game reference quite a bit. Hmmm...

Ooh, tough one. I love these but I'm not sure how they fit in to your plans. Did you see the gorgeous silver snakeskin Elizabeth & James booties I posted about (but returned as were too narrow for me)? Those had a similar vibe. I think you're at a point with your wardrobe where you want things to mesh and these may be a bit of work for you.

Unhelpful, I know! I would want to keep them just to hoard, as has been my downfall.

  • pil replied 10 years ago

I really like these the way you have styled them, Rae! The sparkle definitely draws attention to them, if you are comfortable with that. My python Pettys are pretty out there for around here, so I kind of understand you being out of your comfort zone.

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Gah! I love them!!! I mean, I'm seriously drooling and cursing the fact that Aldo shoes are never, but I mean never comfortable for my feet.

I love every single outfit you have posted here. You look wonderful. And I feel like with your far more minimal recent style, they'd be as great an addition as your Brahmin.

    Are they comfortable enough?

  • replied 10 years ago

They look great! Please keep them!

  • rae replied 10 years ago

Good call, Una. I don't want a struggle to style any one item. Here are couple more skirt outfits in the interest of determining mesh-ability.

Suz, yes, they are comfy for me, similar to the Reports. They are not cushy in the sole, but the arch is in the right spot, they don't rub anywhere, and there's room for a thicker sock if needed. They are also fabric, which would be great for my breathability issues.

  • annagybe replied 10 years ago

I adore them. They are truly awesome. Keep!

  • catgirl replied 10 years ago

Wow, they are amazing as styled and the ankle fit is great. If you will wear them easily then keep!

  • MsMary replied 10 years ago

    FOOT JEWELRY FTW!!!

    KEEEEEEEPPPPPP!!!!!!!

  • AviaMariah replied 10 years ago

I think you should keep them!  They look they would be great fun!

  • Gigi replied 10 years ago

Wow, they are sure sparkly! They do look like fun, but I feel like it would be limited fun--I can't imagine you wearing them to work, for example. I can imagine them more for a night out on the town. Do you think you'd have places to wear them?

  • Mo replied 10 years ago

Are they more like chain mail or more like a disco ball?  Hard to tell from photos.  I'd totally keep if more like chain mail.  If more like a disco ball, they would fall under a specialty item for me and I'd have to factor how often I'd wear a super sparkly shoe.  Of course, I just bought bright silver flats at Xmas so who am I to talk?!

  • cciele replied 10 years ago

I love them! My magpie gene is calling out -- is yours? :)

  • rae replied 10 years ago

Gigi and Mo, all these outfits would be for work. I don't go out on the town, really.

I'd say they are more like chain mail, but a new and pretty chain mail. Worn to the tournament; not into war. If that makes sense.

I think I'm leaning toward keeping. I didn't get a pic because the clouds left too little light, but I tried them with my straight leg jeans and a slouchy cashmere sweater, and I really liked that, too.

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

Thumbs up from me too. Why not.

  • AnnieMouse replied 10 years ago

I love how sparkly they are! If they're comfy and you feel you can work them in... I can't see a reason to say no!

  • Thistle replied 10 years ago

How comfortable are they? Are they for work or play? If for work, would you feel comfortable in them? Is the heel low enough for work?

Have you played with them in your closet? How do they mesh?

So, now that the practical bits are done, I really do love them. They are outside my comfort zone (my snakeskin petty's were pretty out there for me) but I still like them. They are very cool and they are a statement piece.

  • Kristin SF replied 10 years ago

"Worn to the tournament; not into war."

    LOL! Love that!!

  • Janet replied 10 years ago

Holy cats, I love them! Please keep! They look great in all of the combos you posted.

  • Jjsloane replied 10 years ago

I love them but what do I know? If they are comfy there is no choice but to keep.

  • Beth Ann replied 10 years ago

Chain mail!  That's great wear for work --- you'd be prepared for anything.

Truthfully, they suit your look very well and, if they're comfy enough to wear to work, I think they would get worn enough to earn their spot in the closet.

And they're are fabulous and fantastic!

  • rachylou replied 10 years ago

I am not the person to ask, since I own glitter booties myself... ;)

  • Mary Beth (formerly LBD) replied 10 years ago

These. are. freaking. AWESOME!!!   I vote keep - you already have styled them in half a dozen really great ways in your pics.   What more is there to say?   :D :D :D :D

  • Aubergine replied 10 years ago

Keep! Especially since they sound comfy too.

  • Ariadne replied 10 years ago

They are incredible, I adore them, and you MUST keep them.

  • Echo replied 10 years ago

Love, love, LOVE. KEEP! These boots are just plain amazing, and they look fabulous with every outfit you have paired them with.

  • Diana replied 10 years ago

OMG they are awesome.  Keep!  And, um, I realize you don't live in Polar Vortex land, but they would be kind of perfect for dressy events in freezing weather.  Just sayin'.

  • Neel replied 10 years ago

*jumping up and down* like like like like!!! Please keep!!! They are beyond fabulous on you! And baby I am hunting them down :)

  • Mia replied 10 years ago

These are awesome!  I bet you get a lot more mileage out of these than you ever expect.

  • Jacky replied 10 years ago

Those are gorgeous. I was really meh when I saw the first picture from the site, but I think they look fantastic the way that you've styled them.

  • jurocha replied 10 years ago

I like then up close, but this watery/different shine according to light doesn't sit well with me and they disturb me on the full shot.

I vote Return - and go back to Aldo soon. They always hv nice things and are super comfy.

  • Karie replied 10 years ago

Well, I adore them, especially if they are more like chain mail than disco ball. They may take more effort to style, but that's part of the fun of styling - the happiness factor when you've created a gorgeous outfit. They also won't be for everyday wear - but so many of my favorite shoes aren't. I say keep - unless they're a size 9, then I say send to me (they would have been perfect for my recent outfit to the "Rock of Ages" musical)!

  • gryffin replied 10 years ago

Rae - to be honest I'm not into shiny shoes, but these are so awesome!!  Love them!!  I think they will act as an incredible sparkly neutral!!  Love them!!  Vote keep!

  • Mochi replied 10 years ago

I don't know if they're that sensible workhorse but all I can say is they are awesome and I don't even think over the top. Incidentally my shiny silver Miista Alice booties have become a workhorse--I get loads of compliments and they spiff up everything I wear. I hope you get these!

  • rute replied 10 years ago

Keep them! Gorgeous and perfect to wear with casual clothes also!

  • viva replied 10 years ago

    Rae, did you keep them???
