K/R: dressy-ish black boots

I noticed that a big wardrobe hole is a dressy-ish black boot that I can wear to work. I was initially thinking to go for a Report Marks alternative, but the Clark's I ordered with that in mind didn't work for my feet. I also would have loved a black version of my Frye Julias, but those aren't around anymore. These are Timberland, and super duper comfortable, just like my other Timberlands.

Do you think the slight ankle bagging makes them too casual or stompy? Or just unflattering? I want something really simple and sorta sleek to go with outfits like this, which can't handle a lot more personality.

You'd think I'd be able to tell for myself, but I have notorious boot blinders.

I say keep! I think that a little bit of ankle bagging is just natural for boots, and I wouldn't even have noticed if you hadn't pointed it out. Love these

My first reaction is that they make your legs look terrific. Deducing from that they are not too stompy. Hope you keep!

I think they look great!  Mine bag at the ankle way more than that, so I think these look really sleek.

I agree with Suz that they make your legs look terrific, so that little bit of leather around the ankle doesn't detract at all!  Unless these were stretch leather or woven for stretch (like the Aquatalias), I think you need that for bending at the ankle when walking.

ETA:  My apologies, Shevia!  I agree with Shevia, then ;-)

No stompiness to my eye. These look terrific!

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Ha, it was Shevia who actually said it, but I agree! If they are comfortable, they look like keepers to me.

These barely bag in the ankle at all, and they look fabulous on you. They make your legs look even better than normal. They are definitely keepers!

I do see a little bagging but the material itself is so sleek. I do wish there was a subtle silver zipper just to detract from the slight bagginess. But, they do make your legs look great. I can see your dilemma here. I'll be the dissenting voice and say return. You usually have great boot luck and maybe a better choice wil crop up. If you think there is bagging, you might have problems looking past that one problem when wearing them.

Rae- like these boots. Great classics in a way, yet fresh. I am very impressed with the calf fit. The ankles don't bother me, but I'll leave that and the comfort call up to you.

  • Sveta replied 10 years ago

I don't see any bagging: after all these are boots, not socks :-)
They fit great in the ankle and in the calf and if this heel height is comfortable for you for work then they are keepers!

You are the boot Queen, your legs look so good in them. I vote keep if they feel and look right to your eye.

  • deb replied 10 years ago

I think they look fine and vote 'keep'.

I don't think I've ever seen a pair of leather boots that *don't* do a little of that bagging at the ankle, at least. They have to in order for your ankle to bend for walking. I think these look nice -- they are sleek and walk the line between dressy and casual. Should be quite versatile.

  • Julie replied 10 years ago

Very nice boots, Rae, and if they are as comfortable as you say, they are definitely keepers. They look very nice with your outfit, and should work well with jeans, both over skinnies and under boot cuts.

May we see them with some other outfits?

    Cheers

    Julie

I think they look sleek, and make you look leggy, and I don't see a problem with the ankle.  My vote is keep!

  • replied 10 years ago

I don't see bagging, it is just normal for that style of boot. I think these will fit in nicely to your boot wardrobe.

  • Astrid replied 10 years ago

Keep! I think they look great and the fit looks good too.

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

    Superb fit! I vote keep.

Looks like I've been outvoted :p They're quite persuasive. I change my vote to keep!

  • replied 10 years ago

    Love 'em. Keep 'em !

  • Glory replied 10 years ago

Fab - another vote for keep

  • Mona replied 10 years ago

These look great! Keep for sure!

They look good to me.  I had a really hard time finding a sleek pair of black boots last fall and these look great to me.  I think all boots bag slightly at the ankles so you can walk.

  • catgirl replied 10 years ago

Keep! I would not have noticed ankles and I am sensitive to that. Are you planning to wear with skinnies and can you tuck?

  • CocoLion replied 10 years ago

They look both polished but rugged enough for your style.  I vote keep.

  • rae replied 10 years ago

Thank you so much for your eyes, ladies! I will be keeping these. I have fairly hard to fit calves and big comfort needs, and since you like the ankles, I think I will be happy. I plan to mostly wear these with bare legs or tights, but there is just enough room that I could tuck a thin skinny or jegging. I wouldn't put it past me! Julie, hoping to do up more outfits soon. :-)

Late to the party but had to say that these look incredible on you Rae. Perfect!

    Keep.
