Long over long over long (better pix added)

Edit: I went down to do some laundry and realized I still had my camera in my pocket! I snapped a couple more shots before my neighbors could see me - still not the best ever, but I've replaced the original photo with some that show the details more clearly.
********

I've worn this exact same outfit three times now, trying to get a decent WIW photo. As you can see, my efforts continue to be thwarted! Wind, static, light, camera troubles, unwilling photographers... this is as good as it gets for now. :T

Anyway, this outfit uses different proportions for me: a long coat over a long skirt over long boots. I was worried that it looked stupid, but DH actually assured me that it was cool in an old-timey school marm kind of way - and more interestingly, that description did not put me off! The outfit is cozy and feels unexpected, which I like.

You can barely see them, but those are my new, triple-lace boots under there. People compliment them wherever I go. :D

Oh, I WISH I could find those boots in my size! I like this look a lot, Rae!

Oh you just KNOW my hubby would say "sexy schoolmarm" - lol!

I really like this outfit and find the proportions and shapes really pleasing to the eye. And soooooooo much love for those boots!

Have you seen these same boots on Sea of Shoes blogger?

    http://seaofshoes.typepad.com/.....-love.html

They are super cool. Glad you went with the dark brown.

Claudia, that is so fun! Hers are actually the original AD boots, but I am glad to know she has them - off to troll her blog for some outfit inspiration now!

I love the boots and the coat. It seems like a nod to military styling. The red scarf is just the right detail. Are those boots patent? Either way I love the color. Fabulous!

    I love it!

This is fab and looks warm enough for Alaska. Have I seen you in a hat before? I used to wear this look quite often, not so much deliberately but more by default back in the late 90s when long skirts were everywhere. My only issue is that the long skirt/long boots can't constrain my legs or I get crazy.

Rae, I think those boots are too awesome to be partially covered by a long skirt!

  • Caro in Oz replied 11 years ago

    I love it too.

It works. Those boots are outrageously cool.

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

Very nice! The proportions are fun, different and work. Love that coat :)

You look SO ADORABLE IN THAT HAT I could eat you up.

    *chomp, chomp, chomp*

Thanks, everyone! I'm glad it works to your eyes. I suspect the placement of the buttons on the coat helps. Una, I have not worn hats much in the past because I thought they looked really dumb with my long hair flattened out the back... lik instant mullet. I like my hats way better now! Niefern, i agree! I want to wear them with tights and shorts on a warmer day. :)

I wear hats all the time with my short hair - they have to be a certain style (slouchy or newsboy) but so much fun and so easy in winter! Need to see more of them on you. I just bought another one today on the way back from court... Accessories don't count in my 12x12!

Fab! I love how deliberate the long layering looks here. I'm usually kind of meh on longer skirts+tall boots looks (I like to see a little leg), but that is not the case at all here! I think your skirt is long enough and slim enough that there's some hint of leg there anyway, KWIM? And of course the boots are just awesome!

Love these proportions and the military/period look! Of course, you look like you're bundled for Chicago!

  • Sveta replied 11 years ago

    These are some serious boots!
Love the whole outfit, proportions and all.

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

Oooh. I LOVE this!! I agree that the coat's buttons (and the coolness of the boots) help to make it feel intentional and proportioned.

  • Tricia replied 11 years ago

    Those BOOTS! Swoon!

  • ManidipaM replied 11 years ago

Good GOLLY, those boots! There's a hint of the stylin' sufragette about this, more than stiff schoolmarm, to my eye --- I think the boots suggest more 'stride': http://www.loc.gov/pictures/resource/cph.3c05340/

    Just perfect!

I love it but I am a biased coat twin!
