Manspiration Month: Trent Reznor

Many rock stars pile on the sequins and fur and silk, opting to rebel against certain social confines with an excessive, wild, frenetic persona. Trent Reznor, on the other hand, chooses clothes as industrially serious as the music he plays - you know the kind that can build from a confidential whisper to a rage-filled scream in the space of a few lines? The kind that, between clanging steel and mechanical who-knows-what, makes you think you could start a revolution with the mess of power tools in your garage? Yeah, Reznor's look is perfect for *that* kind of music.

Tee shirt. Utility jacket. Usually black punctuated by militant greens. He's not here to strut, but to ask some hard questions and point out some painful truths. I femmed and bankered his look up for work today, but I tried to stay true to the vibe. Black. Olive. Nude. Agressive red orange from the NIN album covers. Done.

... now where's my power drill?

**********
Hank and I both had to trim our nails last night - I'm sure we had.... several inches... between the two of us. It took some industrial strength clippers, and both of us thought we'd get hurt. He meowed so much my head feels like a hole, but I know it's his instinct for survivlaism. I can tell the treats I bribed him with seem like a terrible lie. Still, we're closer for it in the end, and we both know we're in this together now.

    I give this outfit a "9" :D

    TR would be flattered, Rae.

Very nice! That jacket looks great with *the* striped dress. I love you in boots, but it's nice to see your lovely legs in pumps, too. Just to change things up a bit!

My first thought was Cat Stevens, but I'm going to go with Apoptygma Berzerk.

I'm pretty sure my guess is way off so not going to embarrass myself by putting it out there!

I continue to admire how you rework your pieces Rae. I love the bright handbag with this ensemble.

Another NIN, or 9 from me :-D Though I confess for a minute I thought of the Beast (Hank) and wondered why Bailey, a la Wonderful Life?

Love the outfit but haven't a clue about the clue!

  • Diana replied 11 years ago

I'm going to go with NIN too because of the clues but it's just a guess. Love the moody dark neutrals with the bright bag!

I love it. I really want that dress. :)

Love the outfit and TR/NIN! I'm working at home today, so I think I'll take the opportunity to blast some of his music while I work.

I love the contrast of the orange bag with that covetable Bailey 44 dress and jacket. When I think of TR, I don't think of bright colors, but the covers of the first two releases are quite colorful now that I look at them. Does the bag refer to the cover of his second album, or to some other image I'm not familiar with?

I just realized that I bought the PHM album (on cassette!) 23 years ago! Where did that time go? The very week it came out, I was about to drive from Texas to Michigan by myself, and I stopped at a record store on the way out of town to get myself some new music for the trip. They were playing PHM in the store and I immediately bought it and played it over and over during that 20-hour solo drive. And apparently, I have now reached the age in which I have a sharper memory of a particular event 23 years ago than of anything that happened last summer!

Rock on, Heather! First correct guess of the day. :D

Manidipa, I'm glad I can still throw you a curve ball with the clues - you always seem to know the answers right away!

Chrizzle, you are *on it*. I actually did look at the album covers, because you are right, TR never wears brights. Unlike him, I need some color in my life, lol. I saw 3 covers sporting orange-red so that is what I went with. Your road trip sounds awesome!

Ooooh I love this! I like how the stripes are erhm reminiscent of the long... things you're .. referencing. Also! PUMPS. Yes, I love them here. And glad to see the olive jacket already in rotation! The orange bag looks yummy with the eggplant (but seriously) ;)

(I saw NIN a looong time ago at the Gorge, a big outdoor amphitheater, and it was pretty awesome ^^ Also used to LOVE listening to TR's music for Quake1, and highly enjoyed the fact that they added a nail gun in for it hehe)

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

A flop proof outfit! And Hank likes it too.

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Aida, I would not have noticed that about the stripes - lovesit! I wasn't able to see a show until NIN announced that they were going to stop playing live shows... it was SO RAD, but also bittersweet since I felt I had missed out before. Giggling at you wailing on monsters with a nail gun. :)

Angie, Hank's thinking, "Gee, those are funny lookin' boots..."

  • cheryle (Dianthus) replied 11 years ago

That dress is just outstanding on you. I like the jacket with it too.

  • Jaime replied 11 years ago

Fantastic outfit. I have yet to get any of your clues!

  • rae replied 11 years ago

I was way slow with this reveal, but the inspiration pics are up... just in case anyone needs an afternoon TR fix. :)

"...You get me closer to God..." - NIN - I remember dancing to this song in my old club days.
