Manspiration Month: Lord Eddard "Ned" Stark of Winterfell

It's wonderful how many guessed this one correctly!

I can't say too much about Ned Stark, or I'll go on and on and end up ruining someone's surprise. Suffice to say that he is the world's most honorable man - in a world that no longer seems to have much need for honorable men.

I think I first read "Game of Thrones" in 1999. I was a sophomore in high school, The Coolest English Teacher Ever (who also attended my wedding!) had this book in his room - I don't remember if I read it for book club, as an individual assignment, or if I simply nabbed it from him because I'd been devouring gigantic Fantasy novels since I was ten. The point of my story is that my little mind was sufficiently blown, and I've followed the series loyally ever since. Read the books! It will definitely help when watching the show, which is also nicely done.

Since it's warm here, I mimicked the northman's southern attire: simple black shirt, vest, rivets, leather. Bring on the intrigue!

**********
This game is heating up - I wonder who will sit the throne as today's winner!

Winter is coming... but it's still far off, so I'm in a lightweight shirt and vest while I still have a hand in the matter. I am not 100% comfortable with tucking into skinnies, and as the jeans loosen up, I notice that that the rise is still and inch too high on these, but I'm trying not to lose my head.

Pic #2 is a bonus of what I wore last night - I'm wearing my tiger necklace in both outfits - do you think the tiger is becoming my sigil?

Oh I got this one, I think it's NS? Love the series, and loved his character! (I was furious about what happened with him;-)

I love this look on you, Rae, both tucked and untucked. Also love how the colour of the waistcoat and the colour of your shoes work so well together.

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

I am SO loving your Manspiration looks...and prose.

    Also love your tiger (s).

  • Diana replied 11 years ago

I'm guessing NS too based on the clues, although I'm still trying to figure out the tiger!

The new jeans are looking awesome! I like them both tucked and untucked.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

These jeans rock on you Rae!

  • L'Abeille replied 11 years ago

Jaime? Is that you? (Confused by the tiger)
    Otherwise agree with NS.

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Yeah, I did not have the correct animals... but everyone in this reality seems to have one, so I had to use the animals I had handy. :)

Oooo, is that your new vest with the new jeans? That is a great outfit! Seeing you in those perfect jeans makes me so happy! The black shirt is super-sharp too!

  • ManidipaM replied 11 years ago

Viserys? You're too slender for Ilyrio, despite his tiger eye. Maybe you need a braid and blond wig, Rae? ;-) Hoping it's a Targaryen at least. This is such fun. Fab outfit too, yet again!

  • fern replied 11 years ago

I thought there would be more fur involved in this one :)
You look great - I want to see your inspiration photo!

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

Ah, yes.... All you're missing is a few serving wenches and a dwarf! :) This would be much easier to style in an dire Alaskan winter.... I could even find you some wolves.

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Una, I originally thought to do this one on a weekend, so I could wear my wolf tee shirt!

And Manidipa, I actually did *try* to think of a male Targaryen to dress up as - I have a cool dragon necklace that would have been great for that. Unfortunately, I really dislike a certain blonde's brother and won't be calling him a style hero any time soon. :)

Okay, I have *no* idea about the manspiration behind this, but this is an AWESOME look! Yowsa! Love the new vest/jacket transformer piece, and the jeans look fab. Are those gold pumps I see? Love the orange jacket + tiger look too.

  • Meredith1953 replied 11 years ago

Looks great! Is this Ned Stark from Game of Thrones!

  • Kiwichik replied 11 years ago

OMG the only clue that I actually got.I've just finished reading the first book & the second series finale airs this week. Great inspiration & of course you look great.

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Kiwichik , how cool that you are reading the books. I think they are better than the show, as awesome as it is. I read the first book in... 2000? 2001? It has been a long wait for this fangirl to find out what happens to all the characters!

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Oooooh I get to see my favorite gold sparkly pumps paired with skinnies twice this week :D :D Love this outfit, and go Team Wear on the new jacket yes?

  • Kiwichik replied 11 years ago

Don't tell me what happens. I plan to read all the books.

  • Chrizzle replied 11 years ago

I'm reading the 5th book in the series and I love the show too. Some fans of the books have been annoyed by the differences on the show, but I haven't been. Someone on the Onion AV Club discussion board said it was best to think of the books and the show as two interpretations of the same story, rather than the show as a faithful rendition of the books. Since GRR Martin is heavily involved in the structure and plot of the show, I see the different paths the show has taken as fully valid for a visual medium with a finite budget.

I'll stop geeking out now and say that the outfit is fab, and a lovely non-literal interpretation (see what I did there) of Ned Stark's look. You're a grown-up Arya! Love your new vest with the new jeans.

  • Deborah replied 11 years ago

I am completely clueless re your inspiration Rae but the outfit is fab.

  • Jjsloane replied 11 years ago

I'm with Deborah. Great outfit and adorable tiger.

  • replied 11 years ago

You look fantastic and I'm in love with the tiger necklace!

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Chrizzle, I think that's a great way to approach book-based-movies in general. The different media each have their own benefits and limitations. Geek out here whenever you like!

Eddard pics and blurb added up top!

  • Nadya replied 11 years ago

If the tiger is your similar, your rubric can be your words. Great interpretation!

  • Kari replied 11 years ago

Rae, that first outfit totally rocks - I LOVE how you wore this vest! Totally cool handbag and shoes too. I think this is one of my favorites of your outfits ever, seriously. A polished UWP look!

  • cheryl replied 11 years ago

Rae, you are a gorgeous and I don't think you can look bad in anything.

I am a big fan of the show but I just couldn't get into the books. Maybe I didn't give it enough of a chance. My husband has read all of the books and my daughter is in the process of reading them. They both really like the show as well. I think maybe the books are just too darn depressing for me, lol.
