Manspiration Month: Tristan Thorne (Stardust)

Awesome guesses from Friday - I get such a kick out of the coded responses that preserve the game for those guessing later in the day. Love it!

Fantasy Friday's inspiration was none other than Tristan Thorne, the boy-turned-hero of Neil Gaiman's "Stardust." Although Tristan bumbles a *lot* at the start of his story, falling in love with a horrible gold-digger and making a human doormat of himself, his courage and heart of gold lead him on a journey that teaches him many lessons and gains him valuable friends, his mother, and true love. Awwww... I watch the film version all the time, and I still can't handle the epic levels of cute!

Tristan didn't start out with much style, either, but his fashion-loving pirate friend (played by the fabulous Robert De Niro) sets that straight in no time. I love how his white coat and olive shirt make me feel like he's innocent and pure of heart, but still down to earth and capable of much swashbuckling - no gilded Prince Charming doublet for him!

**********
I'm sorry if I've been too opaque with my recent posts, so here's a more straightforward set of clues instead of a riddle:

Today's inspiration sure has some funny ideas about astronomy - and romance! He doesn't recognize the star he's been searching for even when she's right in front of his face. Still, once he gets past the wall of his own naiveté and discovers his *real* true love, it's like he's become king of a magical land. And he also provides us with an awesome, gender-reversed Cinderella moment by getting a killer makeover at the hands of his own "fairy" godmother.

The jacket! I die. And those jeans, are they charcoal? They fit you so well! Nice outfit; I love how the white jacket "summer-izes" the black bag and shoes. ;)

No idea about this one but I love that white jacket and those jeans!

  • Diana replied 11 years ago

Love the white jacket with this outfit! Perfect for crossing beyond the wall, where you might encounter our own Alaskagirl?

  • deedee1221 replied 11 years ago

    the prince and the frog?

  • ManidipaM replied 11 years ago

Wow --- You caught a falling Faerie star and putting it in your necklace! Love Diana's comment, and that jacket really is STELLAR, Rae, storytelling apart. The jeans --- are they charcoal, or meteor dust, or stormhold grey would you say?

I am totally clueless about your clues, but I love you in that jacket withe those jeans and the olive shirt!

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

    CLUELESS.

But love the outfit :). That jacket is a 20 out of 10.

  • Jamie replied 11 years ago

LOVE the outfit and that jacket!! Clueless on your reference -- I'm hopeless, I guess!

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Claire, the bag is actually a deep, "royal" purple. :)

Diana and Manidipa, I LOVE your coded guesses!! Right on the money: the jeans are indeed stormhold gray, and if I can only find a candle I will totally visit Una.

Deedee, hm, now that I think of it the frog prince dresses a bit like this, too.

Angie, I'm doing a happy jig over the 20/10 score! Someday I will have to get a version in real leather so that it will last forever and ever.

*sigh*.....I love this jacket on you. Nothing more to add - Angie has said it all.

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

That's a good item to keep on your wishlist, Rae :)

  • Meredith1953 replied 11 years ago

Could this possibly Tristan from Neil Gaiman's "Stardust"?

  • Meredith1953 replied 11 years ago

    @ManidipaM,
Good one about the stormhold gray! Hehe!

  • rae replied 11 years ago

    High five, Meredith!

Great look, you know I love that jacket. It's from Bebe right?

Never even heard of this author, that shows you how out of tune I am with modern fiction.

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Denise, yes, it's Bebe. It's this one - looks like the white is gone for the moment, but from the reviews it seems like it is a style they have brought back a few times.

I did think of Stardust and then thought nah, I've only guessed one out of fifteen right. Rae I am loving your manspiration month, would it be possible to see all the looks side by side at the end of the month? I know it's a big ask but I think I and others would love it.

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Ooh, that is a great idea! I think I kept all the inspiration pictures, so it wouldn't be that hard to do.

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

Okay, I am taking a wild stab here because I think this is a story with a character who has my name. Is it a Neil Gaiman book, later made into a movie? Because I love me some Neil Gaiman, and I have been waiting for you to do Morpheus as an inspiration... :)

  • rae replied 11 years ago

You got it, Una! I actually tried Morpheus (my BFF named her pet rat after him!), but it's hard for me to do all black when it's warm. Same trouble with the Man in Black from Princess Bride.

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

I was his sister Death for Halloween back in 1991. Sadly, most people thought I was Madonna. Grrr. Anyway, you look great and the white jacket is truly stellar!

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Tristan Thorne outfit comparisons up top! :)

  • cheryl replied 11 years ago

He is hot, lol, and I love your necklace!
