Mo-vember Jacket Challenge Day 3: Allsaints "Kay"

A wonderful illustration of why I usually wear this jacket with an orange or citron top or a shiny necklace... soooo washed out. But I was too tired to change, and DH and I had to get out and run an errand before the traffic got too bad.

Even though I styled it poorly here, I still adore this jacket and will be keeping it in the fold. For me, it acts as my denim shirt as well, since I've yet to find the perfect one. I love the non-stretch denim, the worn look, the rust/coppery buttons, and drape at the collar. The effect is vaguely that of a jacket that was Frankenstein-ed together from spare parts - great for an UWP.

Washed out? You look terrific! I'm having trouble seeing the details on the jacket vs. the shirt - would love a closeup!

Thanks for the reassurance, Una! Here are separate pics of the top and jacket.

You don't look washed out to me! And I am glad you are keeping this jacket.

  • MsMary replied 11 years ago

You keep saying that phrase, "washed out." I do not believe it means what you think it means. ;)

  • goldenpig replied 11 years ago

LOL at MaryK's comment! It is inconceivable how cool you always manage to look! The jacket and shirt are awesome together and the citron stripe tuxedo jeans take it beyond fab! Have fun storming the castle, Urban Warrior Princess Rae!

Those are the coolest jeans ever!!!

That's a great jacket! Glad it made it to the keep pile. It doesn't look washed out in the pic, and I'm betting it looks better in person too, rather than camera lighting.

I wonder perhaps if your love of colors makes you see neutrals as a bad thing?

  • Janet replied 11 years ago

I also don't see washed out, just fab. (LOLing at Mary's comment) I think neutral, dark toned outfits don't photograph as well as ones with vivid colors, but I don't believe that means we need to avoid those outfits. (I had a similar dilemma with the outfit i wore yesterday, but I haven't posted it yet.) Great jacket!

TraceyLiz65, I don't see neutrals as "bad," but perhaps you are right that I get spoiled by how brights light up my complexion. It's possible that I'm not so much washed out here as... not brightened.

Janet, you also make a good point about how well the colors photograph. Looking at a bright and dark pic side by side, my skin doesn't look any worse.

Hm... maybe I could have benefitted from a brighter lip color here, though...

    RATE Rae :)

    You look fab!

  • TraceyLiz65 replied 11 years ago

Taking pictures in natural sunlight helps counter the problem of dark toned outfits...

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Oh, to have natural light anywhere in my apartment... :T

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

I wonder whether you can start taking your photos outside? The weather in LA is always good!

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Hm, I could take another look out there, but I live on a busy street... there is not much in the way of someplace I can set my camera, and DH is both working and lacking in any interest in taking pics.

  • goldenpig replied 11 years ago

I feel for you Rae--I have the same problem with taking pics...lack of interest from DH and lack of time on my end. I know I could take better pics if I went outside and used a tripod but I'm usually rushing to get out the door so it's a quick mirror snap or nothing.

LOVE that jacket on you Rae! Glad it's staying.

  • Lisa replied 11 years ago

Great outfit! I also struggle with photos for outfit posts. Sometimes I go home on lunch because that's when I have the best light in our place! Other times I recreate a weeks worth on the weekend so I can post WIWs.

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

Ah, thanks for the visuals! Taking the denim jacket to UWP territory - I love it.

  • replied 11 years ago

Wow, that jacket is something! I don't see the wash out either. Looks awesome!

  • Mellllls replied 11 years ago

i think the jacket is great!

  • ElleH replied 11 years ago

I love this. I don't see washed out. What does RATE mean?

  • ElleH replied 11 years ago

I have the same problem with pics & DH.

  • MsMary replied 11 years ago

I was just thinking... you're the Urban Warrior Princess Bride! :)

  • Marley replied 11 years ago

Woa - not washed out at all! Just brighten up your lip-color and you'll be fine! This is the coolest outfit. I lust after every single item! :-)

  • Mo replied 11 years ago

You had me at Allsaints! I think the neutrals are great on you. I'm heading in a less colorful, more neutral, direction myself.

  • rae replied 11 years ago

    UWPB!! This makes my week!

  • deb replied 11 years ago
