Muted & Moody Color Mashup

If not for the black bag and jacket, nothing in this outfit would match - thought about switching out to my green snake bag to coordinate with my shoes, but I felt more edgy and tomboyish in my mishmash of colors: black jacket, gray top, navy pants, green shoes.

Went to my class today and felt just fine in the outfit - I think the fact that all the colors pretty much have a similar color value helps it to look intentional. Plus, I've always been a fan of asymmetrical and off-balanced outfits for some reason. I even tend to stand a bit lopsided. ;)

How strong is your matchy gene? Would you feel okay in a mashup of unmatched colors?

In other news, DH and I have been off on a top secret adventure the past few days. I don't want to reveal too much for fear of The Jinx, but we are excitedly holding our breath/stressing/planning/etc. So if I have seemed extra abrupt and lacking in comments, that is why. If you happen to follow my Pinterest, you might have raised an eyebrow lately. I would not turn down a few extra crossed fingers!

Lululemon jacket - Lulu
J. Crew linen blend tee - $1 at fleamarket
Vince pants - Rack online
Ash sneaks - Lord & Taylor
D&G zipper bag - Ebay

    Very cool Rae!  Great bag!

Fingers and toes crossed.  Hope it all works out!

That's a mishmash to love. It's almost tonal dark neutrals. Wishing you luck.

    I like your moody mix!

    Crossing my fingers for you...

Actually this is a look, in terms of colors, that I've been using for 30 years. I love a mish mash of dark neutrals for example ink+hunter+gray+dark brown. I had a stylish person tell me once that it didn't work but my heart says it does. I wore it last week. It's not a look I hear people talk about so I'm thrilled to see your outfit, which looks fabulous!

    Good luck!

Love the look Rae! We are Ash sisters...think I have three pairs! I lean towards edgy, dark looks myself, though I probably have 20 years on you ;-). I figure if I can race motorcycles at my age, I can own edgy in my street wear as well!

I think it looks great!  The tones and shapes hold it all together.

Though I'm still trying to figure out if I can wear espresso brown and black together...

Good luck with your sekrit project!

Intrigue. I think you're right about similar colour value. It's a mashup and yet coordinated. It works for me :)

My matchy genes are almost gone by now so I like it. t does suit your style persona, Rae.

I love it. I also like dark mixed tones.

I noticed certain activity on Pinterest -- crossing fingers for you if it means what I think it means! Exciting!

If your 4 different colors were lilac, orange, turqoise and fuschia, I probably wouldn't care for it :)

But these muted colors work well together...very Rae.

Love the combo of dark and moody colors. It totally works and looks pretty damned edgy and cool!

I like the mismatch, which isn't much of a mismatch; classic case of colors "going". My matchy gene is fickle, most of the time I like to "go" but I'm ok with matching too (though it's usually matching several colors to each other within an outfit, as opposed to matching one color primarily). Got a hunch about your adventure, totally have extra fingers crossed for you, Rae! I've been enjoying those pins; fine taste as usual, lady :D

I think dark neutrals are naturals together, and you look great!

I have been lurking, but I do have to say thank you for all the good wishes and finger crossing - I continue to be very superstitious when it comes to the YLF bringing me good luck. Knocking on wood and hoping that I can talk about it this evening. :)

Love your colour mash up. They are fab "storm over the sea" colours and the pieces are nice and edgy too.
