New 'Do: Feral Fairy a.k.a. "Asian Boy"

Well, it's probably a little too short, but I think I will like it a lot in 1-2 weeks. Maybe sooner, once I see how it goes styling it myself. It wasn't really my stylists fault it is shorter than I wanted; I never could find a perfect example photo and could only say, "shorter than this, longer than this, not quite this, but a texture like THIS." She nailed the texture I wanted, the uneven and choppy bangs, and the general vibe.

DH said I look like an "Asian boy." I do like to look more Asian, but not like a boy... I guess 1 for 2 is not a tragedy. ;)

You do NOT look like a boy! I love it!

  • Suz replied 5 years ago

    You. Look. BEAUTIFUL.

    LOVE this!!

Brings out the graceful curve of your neck, highlights your eyes and your smile.

    SO much fun, Rae!!

  • merwoman replied 5 years ago

DH is wrong! You are stunning!!!!

  • Raisin replied 5 years ago

Pretty friggen cute Asian boy! Lol!

Seriously though, it looks awesome! The texture is crazy, and I like the length. Sometimes 1-2 weeks just softens the cut a bit, but that can help you get used to it. You look great!

  • Julie replied 5 years ago

    Thunderous applause!!!!!!

Absolutely gorgeous. And, we can finally see your ears peeking out!

I'm predicting you'll be used to this in a lot less time than you think, and then your thoughts will start drifting towards just how short can you go.

Well done, Rae. You're a brave little trooper and a real stunner.

    Boy, indeed!!!

    Cheers

    Julie

  • milehighstyle (Linda) replied 5 years ago

Rae - super cute and fun! I was just looking at an old post about short hair and you said in the comments that short hair would not suit you - I'm so glad you gave it a chance because it really works for you.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 5 years ago

WOW! This is incredible on you Rae. This is so going to work with your style. Your beautiful face shows up even more and I absolutely think she nailed the texture and "feel" of the cut.

    Have I said WOW?!

  • claracluck replied 5 years ago

    you look stunning rae!

  • cciele replied 5 years ago

Feral fairy, heehee! I love this cut! So sassy and goes with your style, both UWP and the summer version.

  • Thistle replied 5 years ago

feral fairy is perfect! This cut looks SO good on you! I love how it really brings out your beautiful face. I like the texture for you a lot as well.

Very, very cool, and very chic!

  • replied 5 years ago

I think you'll like this a lot too! It does show off your lovely cheekbones and neck!

  • Girl X replied 5 years ago

If hubs thinks this is Asian boy, it's time for him to lay off the manga!! You look fantastic!!!

  • Vildy replied 5 years ago

This is just wonderful. Not the cliched (but still attractive) cut you see everywhere.
T'would have to be a very avant-garde boy who wanted hair like this. One who didn't mind
being told that he looked like a very cute girl!

  • krishnidoux replied 5 years ago

You look fantastic!!! Can you tell your demoralizing DH that you do not look like a little boy, but a beautiful, stylish lady?

Not too short at all, but coming from having long hair, I understand that you feel like so. In fact, it is a very cute length and the structure is very flattering to your face.

  • abc replied 5 years ago

I really like it, Rae. I think it suits your personality and style very well.

  • replied 5 years ago

I love it! Your features stand out in the best way and the haircut itself is really friggin' cool. You're kind of making me wish I wasn't in the middle of growing out my pixie. :)

  • biscuitsmom replied 5 years ago

No! You look great... that cut highlights your beautiful bone structure, especially those killer cheekbones. I think it still will as it grows out a bit :)

  • Jules replied 5 years ago

I love it! You are so freaking gorgeous!

  • Zapotee replied 5 years ago

Nah, no asian boy noticed. Do you wear any mascara / eyeliner? That's all you need if you wanted to add a touch of femme, but really, not needed.

I love it!!! but I think this is as short as you should go, not any shorter, LOVE!

  • CocoLion replied 5 years ago

Every time you get a hair cut I love it more! This is so dang playful and chic at the same time! I truly love it.

To mitigate the boy factor I suggest wearing a bright lipstick (I am NOT going to say "red lip" so overused). You have these amazing lips to begin with. Think about it?

  • kellygirl replied 5 years ago

OMG, I love it. SO gorgeous, Rae and you do not look remotely like a boy! Awesome haircut. Props to your hairdresser!

  • texstyle replied 5 years ago

Looks really great Rae! I think you are going to have a lot of fun with this cut.

  • adorkable replied 5 years ago

    Gorgeous! Not boyish at all.

As a short hair wearer, I recommend some kind of water-based paste. Will get you good texture, and it washes right on out.

  • Antje replied 5 years ago

Fabulous! Hip and modern and chic and fun and perfect for your face and style.

  • catgirl replied 5 years ago

You look fantastic! Shredded coolness! like an elfin warrior in the coolest way. When are we going to star in our own anime series?!

  • ironkurtin replied 5 years ago

    You're beautiful!

  • MNsara replied 5 years ago

Wow - but each haircut keeps getting even more incredibly cute on you!! Your husband is silly! You are way too feminine featured and all to look like a boy (except in this one family I know where their only boy is waaaay cuter than any of his three sisters!)

You rock this feral fairy look!

  • Caro in Oz replied 5 years ago

Love it & I think most short cuts look even better after a week or two - not sure why.

Funny what we see - I think you look so feminine (in the best possible way).
I like the idea of lipstick.

  • cheryle (Dianthus) replied 5 years ago

I skipped the other comments and will read them after I post.

I love the new do. It looks gorgeous and really brings out the beauty of your bone structure. I think it is perfect and not too short at all. The pieced look is a bit edgy and works beautifully with your RATE style.

    LOVE!!

  • Marley replied 5 years ago

OMG!!!! I LOVE this on you! LOVE! The texture is just killing me - just perfect - and the way it shows off your beautiful bone structure - it couldn't be any better. This fits your style perfectly in my opinion. I like Denise's suggestion of just a little color on the lippy and no one will mistake you for a boy - not that they would anyway! I bet in about a week this will fall into place exactly the way you wanted - even though you didn't really know for sure what you wanted! I'm blown away at your courage to go just a few short months ago from long hair - to THIS! Your style quotient has just gone through the roof! (Can I hang out with you? - maybe some of it will rub off on me :-)

  • K. Period. replied 5 years ago

O!M!G! Brilliant! I love your cut on you, Rae!!! The awesomeness that is you in this cut is unrivaled. Boy? I'm sure what your DH meant was boyish in that gorgeous way that every pixie has a little gamine feel to it that just deliciously heightens your gorgeous femaleness!!! So utterly in love with this! (Excuse my overuse of the exclamation point, but really there is no way to stress how awesome this in cyberville and the exclamations are the closest thing I have!)

  • rae replied 5 years ago

You all are so sweet. I will not have to hide my face in shame when I go back to work now, lol.

Una, bring on the anime series. We will use it as marketing when someone opens a UWP clothing line/law firm.

Here we go from the suggestion box, styled at home:

    bolder eyeliner/mascara, hypershine gloss
    eyeliner plus brighter lip
    eyeliner plus brightest lip

  • cheryle (Dianthus) replied 5 years ago

I have to reply again. I can't believe I never noticed your cheekbones before. You look stunning.

  • deb replied 5 years ago

I have not read wht the others said but, I LOVE it!!!!! And you do not look like an Asian boy. Silly men!

  • Angie replied 5 years ago

Ohh! ADORABLE! Kind of like a RATE Pageboy. A little arty. A little gamine. I don't see Asian boy, but it was a fun description :)

Perfect for the fashion industry :)

  • Sona replied 5 years ago

I love Angie's description: RATE pageboy. and boy does it highlight your fab face structure. love the looks with makeup too: your eyes and lips pop!

  • Zapotee replied 5 years ago

OMG I love the eyeliner & mascara combo, plus the shiny lip / lipstic. You look amazing! Just like a a "feral fairy". So Peter Pan I can't stand it, ack.

That's it. So good to be right!

Angie is right: Fashion industry, here comes Rae!

  • O replied 5 years ago

    How pretty *are* you???

    Wow, just - WOW!

  • Claudia replied 5 years ago

Wow, Rae, I always thought you were pretty, but didn't realize just how really beautiful you are. I LOVE this choppy, cool and modern haircut on you. You wear it well!

  • replied 5 years ago

    Oh, stunning.

    *faints*

  • Vicki replied 5 years ago

I see a beautiful, gorgeous, happy face framed by the perfect touch of texture. "Feral Fairy" has me smiling in N.B. BIG TIME. Love. You are too funny.

  • Aida replied 5 years ago

FUN! I can't see the first photo of the makeup trio, but I have a hunch that mascara+gloss will be just perfect; I noticed that I started wearing my mascara a little heavier after shortening my hair, too. Super texture on the cut! I like it best Super Messy or Super Slick :) The punk rocker in me wants to see even longer pieces at the sideburns, but hey that's just me (like these: http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr.....qjtlia.jpg or http://womenshairstyles.org/ha.....2012-2.jpg). Have you played with that sculpting wax powder yet? I bet you could get some really good feral fairy hair action on the crown and at the back with that stuff!

  • Janet replied 5 years ago

I loved the last cut, and this one is just as fab! Very fun and cute!

I bet hubs will come around to like it. :-)

  • Aida replied 5 years ago

(Have to add that the framing of this haircut is really lovely on you, and makes your features look dainty!)

  • fern replied 5 years ago

    Wow.
You look amazing - I really love the cut. "Feral fairy" indeed!

  • Beth Ann replied 5 years ago

Stunning, Rae. I think you look amazing and actually very feminine. Great cut for a new job.

  • pil replied 5 years ago

This cut is so full of life, Rae. Your stylist is a keeper! Maybe your husband said you look like a boy because his hair is longer than yours now : )

  • JulieJohn replied 5 years ago

Gorgeous! I saw your avatar and made a goggle-eyed "WHAT the... " face at my monitor. Then I found your post and I am blown away by how excellent this looks on you. It's like you are a sculptor, chipping away a bit at a time to reveal the many beautiful selves hidden within.

I can't wait for the anime comic. Good thing you have legal counsel because you are going to kick butt and might get in some serious trouble. I speak of course of Urban Una, the Snow Valkyrie.

I want in on the merchandising. You gals are going to make a fortune on lip gloss and tatty fingerless gloves under the Feral Fairy brand.

  • carolbee replied 5 years ago

Short hair looks fab on you even when au natural. Add makeup and you positively glow, gorgeous look.

  • velvetychocolate replied 5 years ago

You look beautiful - and I love the new haircut - just fab on you!!!

  • Suz replied 5 years ago

This is just so great I had to pop back in and say I TOLD YOU SO!!!!!!

  • shevia replied 5 years ago

I have not read any comments so this will only seem like I am repeating everyone else: GORGEOUS! Mouth gaping from your gorgeousness.

  • Kari replied 5 years ago

Rae, I've been hibernating for the past few weeks but I have to jump in to say HOW GOOD you look with this cut. Wow. From long and sleek to short and choppy, I haven't seen a bad hair day on you ever. What *can't* you do with your 'do?

I don't think you look like a boy at all. Have fun with product - I think the choppiness and texture will keep the look feminine and fun, and kind of spunky like you are.

  • sarah replied 5 years ago

I LOVE this. And I don't think it's too short at all, nor do I think you look like a boy. GREAT do.

  • Tina.b replied 5 years ago

Omg, this is so perfect for you. Totally fashion forward and memorable. And it really accentuates the planes of your face. GORGEOUS!

  • La Belle Demimondaine replied 5 years ago

Not "Asian boy".... "Asian Tinkerbell"! Dainty, feminine-tomboy, and full of mischief!

    I love it!

    *faints*

(When I'm conscious can you explain what your hir had to do with hiding your face in shame? Your last haircut was no slouch.)

  • Deborah replied 5 years ago

I would not mistake you for a boy! I think the cut is stunning and you loook beautiful. If anything it highlights your gorgeous delicate, feminine features.

  • annaj replied 5 years ago

Love it! Makes me want to cut my hair too - between Angie's gorgeous blonde crop and your feral fairy, it's just a matter of time...!!

  • Ingunn replied 5 years ago

I love everything about your hairdo. You are so beautiful - I have no words for it!

  • replied 5 years ago

Cute, feminine, yet a little rate also. Siuts you so well. Love it!

  • Debora replied 5 years ago

    You are a star! LOVE!!!!!

  • Kiwichik replied 5 years ago

Rae - very little chance of you looking like a boy. I love this cut it is very flattering to your bone structure . I find that short hair is very versatile & much easier to style in different ways than really long hair. I love your new look

  • Aziraphale replied 5 years ago

I don't know how I missed this thread -- Rae, you look ADORABLE! I love it. Your husband has a point, because it IS straight, black and pointy-looking, like on an anime character, but that just makes it even more adorable (and, to my mind, fits right in with your tomboy aesthetic). It very much suits your face (which is not boyish -- maybe that's why it works so well) and I bet you'll like it even more in a couple of weeks. Remember last week when my freshly cut hair made me look like Bilbo Baggins? Well, a mere week later, my hair's really good, bordering on awesome. Hairdressers are magicians sometimes. Anyway, your hair is already awesome, and that particular cut will look even more awesome in two weeks. It's definitely textured, like you wanted.

  • Day Vies replied 5 years ago

Never a boy! Boys aren't that cute! I do love the texture on the new do and love the choppy bangs. Home run!

  • goldenpig replied 5 years ago

Super cute! I wish I had the guts to chop my hair off but DH would kill me!
