(On my way) back from the dead & In defense of whiskered denim

I have been feeling sick, so there haven't been many non-work outfits. Finally got a day off and wore this to visit my doctor's office.

Bought this trench on clearance over the summer and finally getting to use it now. I probably could have stood another layer under or maybe even gone for the wool coat, but overall I was happy. I did not have my hands in the pockets all day, but the picture with it hanging open looked funny - I am attempting to capture the way the coat looks as it billows open when I walk, lol.

Second pic is to show a new-to-me pair of jeans. Rag & Bone, thirdhand (passed on to me from a friend who inherited them from a relative). The rise is higher than I usually am comfortable with, because of my saddlebags. Usually I really like how the waistband-belt intersection hits right at my lower hip and confuses the eye out of noticing a less-than-smooth hip line. BUT today I was really struck by how well whiskering helps camouflage saddlebags as well. Not that I avoided whiskering before - I am one of the few who like the look! - but I didn't notice their function when combined with my really low-rise jeans.

So there you go: the ravings of a sick woman, surely. :)

P.S. I think Hank likes the bag!

Sorry to hear you've been feeling sick. I LOVE those jeans! If you have saddlebags, then indeed, the whiskering is doing great work because I just see lean legs. Not sure about the colors of the coat and bag together, but I'm a one color at a time kinda gal - so it's probably just me lol.

Well, you may be sick, but you look SICK, as my daughter would say. :-)

LOVE the purple trench. what a fun colour. And your hair. Your HAIR!!!!

Oh, were we talking about jeans? Those look good, too.

As for Hank...Max is waving to him.

Saddle WHO? Are you crazy woman? There is nothing there to disguise, but I love the jeans on you, whiskers and all! You look amazing in those monochromatic grey/indigo/whatever-the-boot-color-is. Seriously! I hope you fell better fast.

BTW, I'm trying to grow my hair an inch or two longer, inspired by yours. Can you post some pics of the back?

I like whiskering too - I feel it draws attention to an area where I need emphasis as an IT (if done tastefully)! You look great and I love your hair!

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

Probably Hank likes the whiskering, too.

    i also see no saddlebags.

I like the bag and coat together! They seem to me like they're both the same saturation (of colors), and opposite on the color wheel, so it makes them just "pop" , or maybe "sing" together.

I do not see these saddlebags you speak of. Love the jeans and boots together, and that trench is really neat.

You look great. I love the chocolate browns and pinky purple together. You definitely look slim and trim - I think that's because you are, not whiskering!!

Still not over how great your haircut looks either!

LOVE this, Rae. Your sassy hair is killing me. It's SO you. Fab outfit--rugged and sleek :)

I wish I looked that good when I was feeling healthy. And I love, love, love the colour of that trench.

    Saddlebags? You are kidding, right?

  • Tina replied 11 years ago

Casual with some color, love it!
Your new do is absolutely gorgeous on you. Have you had moments where you wonder what you've done (with your hair)? I have had long hair and then gone short (think pixie) and there were always moments when I thought 'what have I done'. I think this totally suits you, just asking if anyone else has these thoughts.

This is you sick???? Good grief woman - you look fab! I adore the colour of the trench and it looks amazing you on. Fab pop of another bright colour with the citron bag.

Those jeans look like they fit perfectly - very flattering IMO.

Sorry you're feeling sick - hope you get well lickety split!

You look great(and so does your figure!). Love the hair, btw, its totally "you"!

  • Jaime replied 11 years ago

You look fantastic and every time I see your new hairstyle I am wowed all over again.

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Mo, I was once like you! I don't know when it happened, but my color tolerance has seriously increased. Might have something to do with wearing a bright turquoise tee every day, lol.

Tina, I definitely did have that moment! Once when I saw the stylist walk away with my ponytail (eep...) and again about an hour later. My hair was still in shock, and I was not liking the blowout. Really had to bite back the panic until I was able to get home and restyle. Now there is no looking back!

Adding another photo with my brown leather trench's maiden voyage, since it was too cold for the purple one when I went back out to pick up my prescription. Wahoo, coat weather!

Wow, your hair! I'd missed that until now! It. looks. awesome. Extra UWP points and a level-up right away.

Love the purple trench---gorgeous colour, delightfully swishy shape with the rolled collar and movement. And I agree with Hank---loving the green bag with it (I have a weakness for this colour combination ever since I saw... don't laugh now!... Dopey. And no, you don't look like a dwarf anymore than you look like you have saddlebags...). I think the candy-bright colours put the Urban and Princess firmly into UWP here, with the Warrior coming in from the whiskered jeans and boots. Perfect balance!

Hope you're feeling better soon; don't think you could *look* better if you tried.

  • Asingh replied 11 years ago

That bag looks great. And the jeans fit you nicely. Get well soon. Rae.

  • goldenpig replied 11 years ago

Sorry you've been feeling sick, hope you feel better soon. You still look as vibrant as ever though! Purple and citron, I am simply awestruck by your fabness. Not to mention your sassy hair! And um, what saddlebags?

  • CocoLion replied 11 years ago

What saddlebags? They look great (and not high rise either, maybe mid rise at most). Rag & Bone jeans are fantastic. Love your moment with kitty!

  • lyn67 replied 11 years ago

Super colour pairing, and new hair! Love this sooo much, trench is exquisite with the lime bag, and love the neutral core, too, God job, as always, Rae!:-) Feell better soon!

  • replied 11 years ago

I like me some whiskering too actually, as long as it is not over the top and this one is not. I have plenty of denim with it.
Wow, this is the first WIW I see of you with the short cut.
    Dang it, you look amazing!

  • Kat replied 11 years ago

Still can't get over how amazing your new haircut looks! Wow. Loving the purpley trench with the brown color combo, brown trench is lovely as well and so nice to have something cozy warm when you're not feeling well... I'd never know you weren't feeling well. Hurray for 3rd hand jeans, they look fabulous on you (definitely not high rise, maybe mid rise. in any case not a saddlebag in sight).

  • texstyle replied 11 years ago

I've been away for a while but had to log in today to say WOW your hair is really great. I mean, I also love long hair and that was lovely on you too but I like the change. A lot! And your outfit with the whiskered jeans is perfect in my book. I like slightly whiskered jeans too.

  • Ingunn replied 11 years ago

Saddle bags? Where? I love the jeans, the fun trench and that beautiful cat. And your hair is so RIGHT on you! You look more beautiful than ever these days, sick or not. I hope you feel better soon!
