Out of the Sky, Into the Dirt

Arrived early at my hair appointment feeling shameless enough to take a selfie in the parking lot. :)

I feel like these pants are so out they're back in again. Satin khaki seamed bootcuts... so much wrong it's awesome. Paired with an oversized silk top to take the pants out of 1999. Pumps because it is Saturday and I like to feel dressed up for work on weekends.

Love the color combo especially with the light you captured. The pants are pretty fabulous, with all the seaming and details.

Yes! "So out they're in again" - I wish I'd saved my clothes from 1999. You look fantastic.

Rae you look awesome! How do you take such nice selfles? Do tell!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 9 years ago

This has a great "modern hippie" look - and I mean that as a compliment!

  • replied 9 years ago

I like it too!  As a matter of fact, I think I had a pair of those pants at one point :)  Love the blue top and the bag/necklace/shoe match.  Cool outfit.

  • Marley replied 9 years ago

Oh why oh why did I ever get rid of my pants like that? They look awesome on you Rae! And paired with the beautiful blue top and accessories - OUTSTANDING!!!

  • rabbit replied 9 years ago

Oh this is great, it's reminding me of Instagram colors.   You look awesome in these soft blues and greens with pale neutrals you have been wearing lately.

Okay, now you've got me wondering if I should resurrect my EB bootcut khaki's and use a semi-tucked blouse and booties or pumps....
I was just about to purge lots of things, but it hadn't really occurred to me to try to refresh them.
I don't think that's as fab as your satin pants, though!
I do think it reminds me to check the fit, and toss out for that vs. if fit is great, consider repurposing.

Love those bootcuts! What a fab pairing of that gorgeous, pale dusty blue with the golden toned pants. Love the necklace too. You look great!

You really look like an elegant, polished, retro hippie. Fantastic.

  • kkards replied 9 years ago

yup, this outfit is retro and current at the same time. is it the length of the pants and the pointy shoe? the faux tuck? the seaming, which looks almost like a tuxedo pant? or is it the awesome combination of all of that!

Ooh, if I had saved and could fit into my clothes from 1999. . . .! Great outfit, Rae. I love the blue top with the pants--it does bring them into now, and the colors are so nice together.

  • Sara L. replied 9 years ago

Great outfit!  I love the top and pants together.  You are able to pull off those pants perfectly.

  • Mary Beth (formerly LBD) replied 9 years ago

Marley, I am asking myself the same question:   WHY did I give up similar pants?   Rae, you look too cool :D   You have this flawless ability to take something ridiculous and make the rest of us want to copy you :D

  • replied 9 years ago

Oh man! Those pants are all kinds of awesome! I love them on you, and I love the way you modernized them with the rest of your clothes and accessories. Khaki bootcuts FTW!

  • Sveta replied 9 years ago

These khaki bootcuts are cool and love pairing them with blue.
But I have a question: why we do not see a new haircut?!!!

  • rae replied 9 years ago

okay, I was hoping to take better pics, but with traffic that may be awhile. Here's what I tried to take right after. I am NOT 100% on it. I always feel that way though and have to style it for myself at home. Thoughts?

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 9 years ago

The new cut really frames your face nicely. I bet it will look even better with your own touch. The bangs are really cute. I imagine they'll be less still-looking once you do your hair, though--maybe brushed slightly to one side and allowed to fall back into place, if you know what I mean.

  • cciele replied 9 years ago

Those pants! Amazing job of modernizing them.
And your hair cut is quite spunky -- the short bangs probably take getting used to, but they are cute.

  • Jaime replied 9 years ago

Love the flairs and the haircut looks fab to me!

  • Beth Ann replied 9 years ago

The pants read as more 1977 summer rock festival to me --- and you've styled them in a way that hints at the pants, but works beautifully for the present.  Love the flow of the top, too!

  • rae replied 9 years ago

Thanks for the kind words on the hair. 1-2 are the pics I brought, and 3 is what I feel like. It always takes a while to settle, though, so I'm trying to be positive. I usually end up liking my cuts.

  • Alana in Canada replied 9 years ago

Oh Rae! You are much cuter than a lime topped kitty cat! Your face is no where near as fuzzy!
    (That is hilarious!)

  • karymk replied 9 years ago

And the Miss Laurel Canyon Award goes toooooo: RAE of YLF!!!

  • rachylou replied 9 years ago

I love this outfit. Love. The Embellished PPL pants, the perfect tuck, the pointy shoes.

Also, this could also be a like a UO ad or something... except you're not trying to rip your clothes off. Lol. Just a tip to remember for next time... make like you're trying to rip your clothes off... ;)

  • rae replied 9 years ago

Omg, Karymk and Rachy, you are hilarious!!

  • catgirl replied 9 years ago

My thoughts on the hair are that you need to pump up the sides more - it's the equivalent of a cropped top for your head, so you need a little more volume to counter the shorter length.  Just messy it up and you'll feel a lot more rad and less helmet-head.

  • Asingh replied 9 years ago

Rae, looks like you got your 'retro vibe' on! YLF! Love how you've added pumps and necklace to the mix.
