Playing favorites: sapphire and camo

With no job to dress for these days, I find myself wearing my favorite items even more than usual. There's just something so comforting about being in clothes that *feel* good on the bod and are also so freakin' practical.

You can sort of see the baggy/slouchy side of these pants better in this pic. I love that extra ease, same as I love the stretch in this jacket. I feel like I could do anything in this outfit and not have to worry about overheating, feeling restricted, or looking like I just rolled out of bed. A new standard to aspire to in all my outfits, as far as I'm concerned! Zella and Lulu have spoiled me silly.

Side note - wow, my hair is getting heavy again, isn't it? These short cuts sure are high maintenance!

    Wowzers, this is awesome!

So have you decided not to go back to the job, or are you still recovering?

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

Rae, that is a good goal - it's how I feel about shoulder room but really about all my clothes. If I can't function, what's the point? Love this color on you and am totally coveting the pants!

    Looks great, Rae!

Mary, I have a bit of time left on my initial 30-day disability leave. Seeing Dr. Shrink again tomorrow, but last I heard he was recommending a transfer. I am not sure when they will deem me fit to work again, but it looks like it won't be at the same store.

Una, I totally see this now. "Function" was just a word back when I sat at a desk literally all day. Now I get so frustrated when clothes or shoes hold me back from a spontaneous hike or make me uncomfortable hauling clothes around at work.

  • replied 11 years ago

Oh, and I forgot to continue my thought -- comfort/usability is paramount for me also!

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

Rae, it is interesting, isn't it? And there's a lot of difference between "utilitarian style" (which I also love - zips, snaps, pockets) and real utilitarian clothing. It's why you don't see a lot of my looks here - they are truly functional for the activity but not so adorbs (like my climbing gear!).

Do what the doctor orders - i've been worrying about you!

  • MsMary replied 11 years ago

Good luck with the transfer, Rae! Fingers crossed it all works out!! XXX OOO

Love the outfit. Comfort clothes are just like comfort foods. Follow your gut and do you you feel is best for you. I have also been worrying about you.

Love the blue with the camo! I'm not a fan of camo - but, pairing the blue with it makes me LOVE it! Also, completely understand what you're saying about the need/desire for "spontaneous clothes." I'm right there with you - working at home, once in awhile walking down the hill to Trader Joe's or the coffee shop, heading to Boot Camp, transporting a shelter dog/cat to the Vet or a foster home, etc. - my clothes need to be versatile and work in a lot of different situations. (Ok - so, Boot Camp is a little different because I *do* wear work-out clothes for that - but you get my drift!)

You're right about shorter hair being a little more high-maintenance. How long has it been since you've got it cut? When I had my hair your length, I had to get it shaped up approximately every 6 weeks. Now, with it shorter - I'm every 4 weeks!

Can't wait to see you later this week. It will be good!

    Full-line Nordstrom here you come!!!!

    You look fabulous. :)

  • Amy replied 11 years ago

I admire you for wearing those fab camo pants. You rock the look.

I found out about the high maintenance side of short hair last year when I got a pixie. I just can't do it. Chin length hair like this is a lot easier to care for. Even on the heavier side, it still looks pretty darned good :)

I'm glad you work for a company where a transfer is something that can be worked out. Keeping you in my thoughts.

  • replied 11 years ago

Oh, missed that about possible transfer! Fingers crossed for you!

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Good call on the hair, Marley. It has been just about 6 weeks. Wow!

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

My hair limit is 6 weeks before my roots show - otherwise I can go a bit longer. Short hair is WORK, though!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Strong, visually interesting, great fitting outfit! Love cobalt on you Rae and amazed at how fabulously it pairs with camo.

Wishing you all the best with your transfer.

BTW - I have to get my pixie cut trimmed every 4-5 weeks or it totally loses its shape and get bulky.

  • Thistle replied 11 years ago

Love this look on you, and the comfort factor is so critical. Huge difference too between a desk job and retail. Sitting versus moving around all day!

I am sure your doctor will do what's best for you, and I am glad you got the disability time.

  • replied 11 years ago

Yep, short hair needs maintenance. I had to get a trim at least every five weeks, I do love the fit of the camos on you and that jacket is the perfect shade of blue. I am glad Nordstrom is doing right by you all, but I would not expect any less.

  • Raisin replied 11 years ago

Oh, looks really great. The blue is great with the camo. Looking cool!

  • Lyn D. replied 11 years ago

    Love the look!
A transfer might be a good idea- fresh surroundings and new co-workers to meet.
    Good Luck!

  • Sarah A replied 11 years ago

The cobalt is lovely with the camo. I especially like the boots here... they feel like a fun unexpected surprise with the blue somehow :) I completely know what you mean about functional clothes too. Love the functional look with a high style quotient, that is truly an amazing feat!

But, after being totally confused by MaryK's comment... OMG I just read the OT thread. Yes, I have lived under a rock for two weeks. After being in the military and being so close to those exposed to violence I feel for you with all my heart. I am glad to hear Dr. Shrink is someone you have felt connected with to help your healing process and that Nordie's is handling the situation in an upright first class manner. ****HUGS****

Rae, your combinations like this are an inspiration to me. While my clothes are completely different, seeing unusual (to me, that is) color combinations opens my eyes to more possibilities in my own closet.

Hope everything with the job works out to your satisfaction and comfort.

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

A great look that I am so pleased is comforting you at this point :)

  • Jaime replied 11 years ago

Great colors and you look terrific. Hope you get what you want with the transfer!

  • amiable replied 11 years ago

Just popped over to the OT thread - Wow, what a horrible ordeal! You look fabulous, and I'm hoping your life and job get on track to fabulous soon too. Yikes!

  • amiable replied 11 years ago

Oh, and when I have my hair really short, I have to trim every two weeks. :\

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Wow, so interesting about short hair! I was wanting to go a little shorter - looks like I will certainly have to be prepared to trim at home if I do!

  • Beth Ann replied 11 years ago

Rae, you look amazing in those pants -- makes me want to go buy them, which would, um, not be wise! Even those this is really casual, it's deliberate and the care you take in choosing your wardrobe items makes spontaneous dressing much more fab!

  • Caro in Oz replied 11 years ago

I love how you take those pants & boots & add to them to make them feminine (in the best possible way).

  • Ariadne replied 11 years ago

I love this outfit. It's beautiful and very "Rae". The camo and sapphire together really pop.

I'm glad you've got good advice and comforting clothes to buoy you right now, Rae.

  • CocoLion replied 11 years ago

I am so glad these pants are working out. I love how spontaneous discoveries/treats can turn into workhorses! The way this outfit zeros in on your trim midsection is fantastic. If you surrender the butt, you can put the focus elsewhere, is what I think.
