"Pregnant" Mermaid

A dear diary moment: my very first, "Are you... *nudge nudge*?" Sigh. I guess it's my fault for gaining weight, but it doesn't feel very good.

But DH liked the outfit, and my coworker said I looked like a mermaid. So maybe that averages out? -_-

    o.O
I must be blind, I don't see it.
    The pregnant part, I mean.
Mermaid, yes I see that! :) I love that sheer topper!

  • Tanya replied 9 years ago

Totally agree with cciele, you look mermaid-ish, but not pregnant.  Love that shade of green on you,

  • Alana in Canada replied 9 years ago

Well, not to be rude, but I don't think your co-worker knows what a mermaid looks like! That said, this is lovely and flowy. The green is a wonderful colour on you. Listen to hubs. :)

eta: I don't see preggers, either.

  • Neel replied 9 years ago

Umm ... I only see a mermaid too! I think that's s gorgeous dress on you. And its for $1? Wow!

  • Lucy replied 9 years ago

No way anyone could think you were pregnant! Maybe just your age, rather than tummy???
That colour is gorgeous on you.

  • Lucy replied 9 years ago

Also: whoever said that is super rude! That is  a question one should never ask....

  • rabbit replied 9 years ago

I love the black and green together on you, and the transparency.

  • SarahTheWhite replied 9 years ago

Such a cute outfit! I love the flowy, the green, the nude shoes... So great! Those wedges look awesome - beautiful details from what I can see. I definitely don't see pregnant either. Just a thought - I have noticed on tops like that, when the highest point of the hemline hits in exactly the right place and the sides drape down, it creates a circular shape side to side. At a glance it can fool the eye into thinking it sees three dimensional roundness. Does that make sense? In this case, against a black background where it is nearly impossible to see detail, perhaps the person glanced at you, witnessed this optical illusion and spoke without thinking. That's all that I can think of because you REALLY don't look pregnant. :-)

  • Diana replied 9 years ago

What?!?! I don't see it at all. You look like a very lovely and decidedly UNpregnant mermaid. I really like the green and the black together. The shoes look really cool too... Wish I could see a close up of that neat heel.

  • MsLuna replied 9 years ago

Love this mermaid kick you're on Rae! I don't see the "pregnant" part, though I empathize. I have strong apple tendencies that I get asked this a lot!

  • Adelfa replied 9 years ago

Rae, DD (the one you've met) gets asked this. By gleeful old church ladies who are dying for her to be pregnant. There was one dress she could never bring herself to wear again, though!

I adore this outfit. Wow. You look good in the filmy swirliness.

I have to admit I recently asked someone if she was pregnant. But only because she was hinting broadly, staring at me intently, and talking and talking, none of which was like her. I got a brain wave and asked her and she was happy. I told her she was the first person I'd ever asked that. Then she went and told her boss, "Jody says I was the first!"

On you--I don't see it either.

Feminine but not looking like motherhood is eminent.

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 9 years ago

I really like the combo of the mesh sweater over the mesh dress, with the high-low hems playing off each other. It's a darkly ethereal look. Nicely done! some people don't know how to give compliments, I guess.

  • gardenchick replied 9 years ago

Great shade of green, and great with the dress! Agree with others that don't see pregnancy here!!

  • cheryle (Dianthus) replied 9 years ago

I don't think you look pregnant in any way.  I suspect it is more a combination of flowy/draping pieces and the time since marriage.  I've wondered that myself when a couple has been married a few years and it is circumstance more than look.

You look lovely in this outfit.

  • ameelizabeth replied 9 years ago

Definitely NOT pregnant-looking! That person must have had babies on the mind or something (or was blind??) but I really like this outfit, and hope one comment like that won't put you off from wearing it again!

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

    Pretty. But not pregnant looking.

Sometimes people see a certain silhouette and make assumptions.

  • Karie replied 9 years ago

That's one question never to ask a woman! I think it has more to do with length of time married. I was asked it years ago when we'd been married for a while and no baby was showing up. It was a male friend who asked me and I answered, "No, why, do I look it?" His answer was something like "Oh...no...I was just wondering" to which I replied "Here's a tip - keep that wonder to yourself, don't ever ask a woman that question!"

You look lovely in this flowy dress/top combo. That shade of green is spectacular.

  • Janet replied 9 years ago

What dianthus and Suz said! Some people seriously lack social grace. You look gorgeous and that green top is a stunner. I want to see a close up of those shoes.

  • ironkurtin replied 9 years ago

Some people just like to see other people gravid. You don't look pregnant. Gorgeous outfit!

  • Thistle replied 9 years ago

You look lovely! Fab outfit that is so very pretty and I love the "mermaid" touches.

As Dainthus said, no pregnant look. It is more the time from marriage, the new house, and the style of the dress. Still, makes me what to swat whoever said that to you! So rude!

  • Eliza replied 9 years ago

Love you in the dress.  With the current focus on fluidity and volume, with plenty of waist surrendering options, someone is going to be chewing a lot of shoe leather if they keep it up.
    YLF!

  • Beth Ann replied 9 years ago

Gheesh.  Well, you could wear this dress while in early pregnancy, I'll give them that!  You look lovely -- feminine, but sophisticated in a gorgeous silhouette (love the necklace, too).  And the color is bold and rich.  Going through a stressful move and NAS would make it tough to eat well and exercise regularly.  Slight fluctuations are part of life and they do not affect your radiant beauty --- just the fit of your skinny jeans!

  • April replied 9 years ago

Goodness -- I'm always shocked when people don't know the rule about when it's okay to ask someone if she's pregnant.

The rule that starts off, "Unless a baby is crowning..."    :)

  • Keturah replied 9 years ago

Um...I don't see any sign of pregnancy or roundness. Anywhere. You look gorgeous and that color of green is stunning on you!! That is a keeper of an outfit!! :)

  • rae replied 9 years ago

Thank you for the free therapy, my friends. Darkly ethereal is something I can jive with. :) The person who asked The Question is super duper sweet, so I couldn't brush it off easily, you know?

Strangely, I do feel better knowing DH liked it, because he is usually the first one to tell me if something is not the most slimming. I liked the outfit, too, and I felt comfortable in it, so I think I will wear it again despite all this.

My phone is too low in charge to take pics now, but these are the sandals:

What others said - I don't see any "preggers"  - or weight gain for that matter!
"Darkly etherial" is right, for me it is more wood fairy than the mermaid...
You look lovely Rae in this shade of green  and the shoes are very cool!

  • BethL replied 9 years ago

Ack. So sorry, Rae. You don't look pregnant, but you do look wonderful! "Darkly ethereal" is a nice descriptor! Love this on you. Don't worry - the question may have nothing to do with your outfit. Like others have said, you're at the age and state of marriage-hood where people start to ask. Wishful thinking, out and out envy/jealousy, nosiness, etc. i read somewhere recently a list of responses; they were all cagey and polite, basically MYOB, but without insulting anyone. I'll have to see if I can find it.

  • lyn67 replied 9 years ago

I don't see it, not even the weight gain---and agree with Karie, a lot! BTW, You look like a cute mermaid, Rae! Love the colors and the drapes on you!
