PSA: Real leather Bebe-ish jacket in black for $73

Not sure how it happened, but when you add this draped leather jacket to your cart, it drops from $134 to $73.24. I don't know what the lining is made of, but for a solid thirty clams less than the Bebe jacket, I had to try it.

Came across the jacket on Running in Wedges (first pic from her site), where she says she is a total leather jacket snob and still thinks everyone should own the Spiegel one... between that and my love for my Bebe, what could a gal do?

I guess this means I really, really have to wait for my b/w Brahmin bag to go on sale...

Last pic is me in the Bebe. Instant hourglass!

    FAB!

  • Marley replied 10 years ago

Woa!  I am super tempted!  Thanks for the heads-up Rae!

  • goldenpig replied 10 years ago

Thanks Rae! I hope the jacket works out for you. Thanks for sharing!
It looks like everything on the website is 55% off, so when I put the jacket in the cart it was only $60! So I had to try it too! (I ordered 2 sizes because I'm not sure if I'm a 4 or 6).
I also ordered this blue lace trench coat to try, just for fun (only $45):
    Lydia trench coat
I also used Big Crumbs for 4.2% off. And I signed up for their "VIP service" that gives you free shipping and $10 off your next order (but you have to remember to cancel before 30 days to avoid getting charged the $39 fee). You can also sign up for their emails for $10 off your first purchase (code CHECKUSOUT), but I didn't know about this until after I placed the order, oh well. So, a leather jacket for less than $50? Awesome! Anyone else going to try one?

Your Bebe is gorgeous!!! If this black one looks as good you have a great score there.

  • Thistle replied 10 years ago

    So fab!

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

Who can resist instant hourglass? Your white Bebe jacket is gorgeous on you.
Maybe the special price was for a limited time. It didn't work for me.

  • Parsley replied 10 years ago

Thanks for the heads up, Rae!
For that price I'd love to try it, but only if I could get free shipping. I hate the idea of being out over $20 in shipping and return costs if it didn't work.

Natalie- I don't see any place to sign up for VIP service. How did you do that?

I hope you ladies will report back ASAP when you get yours, because I'd be willing to risk it if I knew more about the fit and quality.

  • Karie replied 10 years ago

You look gorgeous in the white leather jacket! I have wanted a leather jacket for some time, this may be my opportunity...

  • Sona replied 10 years ago

I bit too. but yes I hated the shipping price. I looked around and could not find a coupon. Oh well I should have read thru this entire thread before pulling the trigger!

  • marit replied 10 years ago

Joy, I added it to my bag too and it was $134 so I was like "oh, huh, didn't work" then I went to "view cart" to delete it (it still says $134 there) but at the bottom it applies the discount and says "order subtotal: 60.30".

I confess I am tempted. It looks flattering, versatile in a lot of contexts, and the blogger that Rae linked was very effusive about it. I was talking myself down like "oh no I already have a black leather jacket" but then I hunted it up to try on and it doesn't seem to fit right anymore - I think it's too big on me. Well! That's not helping hold me back, haha.

  • goldenpig replied 10 years ago

Marcy--when I went to check out it asked "Would you like to join our VIP service?" so I clicked on it. I figured I would get the free shipping and then cancel before the 30 days is up. I got an email though that says "Send us your credit card statement and we will refund the shipping." Kind of a hassle, but their shipping seems kind of expensive so it's probably worth the extra steps. Not as easy as Nordstrom/Zappos!

  • Parsley replied 10 years ago

    Thanks, Natalie!
I'll check that out! It does sound like a pain in the neck, though.

I wouldn't mind paying shipping if I were reasonably sure that I'd keep it, but if I paid over $20 for every jacket I tried on that didn't work I'd go broke! :-)

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

I am super tempted, too! Hmmmm. This US shopping trip could become very, very dangerous....

  • MNsara replied 10 years ago

Uh oh, I am sorely tempted too!

My just put my never worn, Joe's black leather moto in the to-be-ebayed pile :-(  upper arms too tight and not willing to wear lots to see if they stretch out.

This one has those ponte panels and that makes a lot of difference for me :-)

Natalie - was that VIP service offered through Spiegel or through Big Crumbs?

I played with checking out up to where it says the next step is place order, and no VIP offered. . . my shipping would be $12.94 whether I order one size or three!

ETA:  Oops, it updates shipping on the last screen!  Not the most well designed site. . .

  • rae replied 10 years ago

Oh, wow! Yes, I didn't notice the shipping was $12.94 for me, too. I just saw $73 as the total and got all excited - no shopping at midnight for me anymore, lol...

Natalie, thank you so much for sharing... I did NOT see that you could cancel the VIP before 30 days was up - d'oh! Totally missed out on $10. Oh well, I guess I was happy with the price before I heard that...

Ladies, the VIP offer comes on AFTER you check out, and they fix the shipping retroactively!

  • MNsara replied 10 years ago

Thanks, Rae!  Good to know it's after checking out.

They don't even answer their phones over the weekend, and there are not published shipping rates anywhere on the site!  Seriously?  ;-)

ETA:  lol, rae - late night shopping ;-)  I made a huge mistake bidding for a hotel room on priceline late at night, while enjoying a glass of wine!  We ended up staying out by O'Hare instead of downtown Chicago ;-)  Oh well, at least the lovely Westin was only $45/night -- that softened the blow a little!

  • rae replied 10 years ago

Wow, maybe that is why they have to discount everything so heavily! I am not even sure how fast it's shipping.

Another note: I don't seem to have received a confirmation email, so save your confirmation number before you close your window!

  • MNsara replied 10 years ago

Wise woman!  I just printed it!

Ordered and joined VIP.  Fingers crossed our jackets are as lovely as the blogger says!  Plus, I ordered three sizes (yes, I am that particular even if it the end result doesn't look like it ;-))   as long as shipping is free in the end!

  • marit replied 10 years ago

Okay, I need help! So I got enabled to buy this jacket by my husband (a SHOCKING turn of events - that is not sarcasm) which is a SIGN. But I am now stuck on the sizing. I don't know if I've ever owned anything from Spiegel and I can't fuss with getting more than one shipped to me and sending it back (between cross-border dealing & shipping costs). My measurements are between a 6 and an 8 except my waist is much bigger.

There's no clear waist on this jacket in the photos - it looks like a straight line down (which could actually work for me because my body is actually sort of tube-shaped right now) and I usually assume moto styles fit to the chest anyway. The ponte panels probably give it stretch? Or would I just wear it open all the time anyway? And I think of Spiegel as an older-woman brand - is it? My experience with brands for older women is that they're usually kind to apple waists.

Basically, how big is my gamble that I can fit my waist into a 6 or an 8 in this brand and this cut? Opinions from you all would be super helpful.

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

I have no wisdom to offer, Marit, but I am watching this with great interest. Still have not decided to pull the trigger. Hmmmm.

  • rae replied 10 years ago

Based on the sizing chart, I ordered a size 2. I ordered from their ShapeFX line many moons ago, and it was pretty TTS. Never ordered from the main Spiegel line, though.

Here is another blogger wearing it and showing multiple angles. Looks like there are indeed stretch panels on the sides and that it may run on the roomy end, so I'd probably go for a 6.

  • marit replied 10 years ago

I'm going to go for an 8... I still have a little weight to lose but I don't want to jinx myself that I'll lose it from my bust! ;) Honestly I'm floored enough that I could be considered a size "small" anywhere. Thanks for the extra photos, Rae! =) I feel pretty confident after going through all the considerations and seeing more pics that my waist gamble will turn out okay.

However the promo code from the email they sent is not working for me and now that I know I can get an extra $10 off I simply can't buy until it works. The sale is on until tomorrow according to RetailMeNot so if they don't reply to email on the weekend I'll call the toll-free.

  • goldenpig replied 10 years ago

Marit, Sara told me she wasn't able to use the $10 off code (I didn't see it until after I placed my order. She said she wasn't able to combine the code with the 55% off. I had also tried to enter in codes for 20% off that I found online and they didn't work, so I think that is true, that they won't combine with the 55%. So I think you should be able to order it, but not with the $10 off. Hope that helps.

  • Diana replied 10 years ago

I do not need another leather jacket. I do not need another leather jacket. I do not need another leather jacket. Right? Right.

  • rachylou replied 10 years ago

That's cool. And fascinating about the leather jacket snobbery and Spiegel.

  • Marley replied 10 years ago

Marit - I haven't ordered anything from Spiegel for probably 20 years - but, in my experience Spiegel sizing runs large - really large!  So . . .

  • catgirl replied 10 years ago

Okay, I just ordered it too (eek!) and the price was $60.  Shipping to here was more but at that price I was willing to bite...  LEMMING TIME!

  • Momo replied 10 years ago

    I got it as well!

  • CocoLion replied 10 years ago

Oh no, I might have to jump off the lemming cliff as well!

  • Glory replied 10 years ago

in an effort to be a lemming....I can get the discount but cannot see whether they will actually ship to Canada. I have a black moto on my list......

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

I did not bite. With the damage I am going to inflict on my credit card at NAS I figured enough was enough. I will enjoy it vicariously on all of you.

  • replied 10 years ago

I didn't bite either --- have to stick to my budget as I just bought that striped trench, blazer, and have a Zara order and a pair of cherry red Doc boots on their way to me too!

  • marit replied 10 years ago

Thanks, goldenpig! So on hearing the coupon code didn't combine with the sale pricing I went ahead and bought it - it's still a deal and all the raves are convincing. I do need a black leather jacket if my old one doesn't fit anymore.

Marley, I did think their sizing ran quite large!Oh well, if it ends up being oversized, I guess that is the trend in moto jackets anyway, isn't it... ;)

  • Keix replied 10 years ago

I was super tempted, but I just bought a great black leather moto at NAS so I'll enjoy that one instead (admittedly at a much higher price).

  • Marley replied 10 years ago

Hey - I jumped off the cliff within a few minutes after Rae gave us the heads-up on this!  :-)  Now - has anyone received an e-mail or any type of confirmation that their order has been received and is being processed?  I feel like my order just vanished into the air!?!

ETA:  I don't have a black leather jacket and after looking at the ones at NAS, I just couldn't let this one go!  (I'm not a lemming.  I'm not a lemming.  I'm not a lemming . . . )

  • goldenpig replied 10 years ago

No email, nada! I'm hoping they'll send at least an email confirmation on Monday. Now I'm getting cold feet. Why did I order this when I already have a black leather jacket? I freely admit I am a lemming with sale goggles on!
