Rusty Stripes
March 30, 2013
I don't have much time, but I was really excited to share this outfit before the holiday weekend gets into full swing. My mother got me this great blazer in lieu of an Easter basket this year. She also passed down this necklace, which she received from my dad, this passed Valentine's day. I am totally thrilled with how well the stripes work with rust!
Happy Good Friday to those who celebrate. P.S. What is up with that car parked in my fashion alley?? ;-)

Happy Friday! -
Fun springy look, Rae style! The rust really looks super with the high contrast black and white print. Cute necklace, both appearance and sentiment :)

KILLER stripey rusty gorgeousness! (I just filled up our Eatser basket - but I'd rather have had a jacket too).

Wow, Rae, this is yet another amazing outfit! I'm with Angie - I absolutely love these polished looks. And let me tell you, if I were shopping, you are the first SA I would seek out. I would trust you implicitly!!

You have TOTALLY inspired me! I'm a HUGE stripe lover and I would wear this outfit in a heartbeat. Since I'm a (bit...ok, a LOT) older than you, I'd probably wear my blazer a little longer, but I love how you paired the black cami under the jacket. Accessories? Perfect!

And how sweet to have the necklace from your mom!

Thank you! Not long ago, I was having Una's same issue with stripes. They felt way too nautical and preppy, but we talked it out and I got fixated on Tim Burton as my stripey inspiration. Makes it much easier to style them so I feel like "me." lol

I just love this combo ! It is really fresh and uniques ( I certainly don's see rust worn with stripes, evah ). I love your newer look. You just look so sophisticated without losing your edge at all.
Happy Easter to you too ! -
Rae you are really on a fashion stride lately - loving this new slightly polished but still slightly RATE Rae. This looks incredible, every outfit keeps becoming my new favorite on you. Taking notes.

Rae, you look like a million bucks here! That bag! Those shades! (What are they, by the way?) I LOVE the way you made stripes your own by wearing them with your trademark rust. Gorgeous. Original. Inimitable. Rae. (Don't you want to hire me as your PR agent now?)

Im curious about your comment about TIm Burton stripes-- so timely as I am contemplating my relationship to stripes and the 5 striped knits in my closet. Do you mind posting or linking a few photos?

Also, I love the longer bangs! Are you happy with them? -
So great! The fit of the blazer is what really makes this outfit to my eye. Love the stripes and rust.

A winning combination, Rae. I think a striped blazer is hard to pull off and you look great. I've been MIA so I missed out on your change of hairstyle. The pixie suits you well.

You look quite parisian here if I may say so. I love this combination and how nice to have a necklace with loving meaning.

Claire, lol, you have me wanting to buy airtime for a full Rae commercial! Thank you! The glasses are by Spy Optic, style is Siouxsie. I'm a bit heartbroken, because they are an old style, all sold out, and my black ones are still in possession of the LAPD forensics people. Not sure if I can ever get them back. :(

Robin, these are the pictures I pinned from Tim Burton films. I like the idea of the stripes done in kind of old-timey styles and put up against desolate-looking natural settings. So I'm planning to wear my stripes with things that feel faded, distressed, rusted, burnt, soured, or otherwise thrashed. Wore a striped tee with my faded and ripped jeans today and really enjoyed it. -
Gorgeous! I love the jewelry shot too! I love the b/w blazer with the rust skinnies. I have been in love with the color combination since I saw it used in a model apartment 15 years ago. It's warm and mod all at the same time just like you Rae which is why you pull it off so well.

Your mother did a great job this Easter. Love how the stripes work with the rust.

i haven't commented but I have been enjoying your recent outfits. -
One of my favorites and love how you utilized the Tim Burton for inspiration.

Who makes the jacket? And who the great shade of rust pants?
-
Thank you so much for linking the photos. I'm a huge fan of your style so I'm having a total fangirl moment corresponding with you on the boards! I'm noticing a lot of vertical stripes in the pictures you posted.... Must contemplate this.

Vildy, the jacket is by a brand called Payton, and it is on sale. :)

Robin, I am having a moment learning that I have a fan - and a super stylish one to boot. I am excited to see more of your WIWs in the future! -
oh wow, I wouldn't have looked twice at it. It's a hundred times better on you!

I hope this won't make an UWP wince but someday there'll be another one of those articles explaining the unexplainable French Chic and they'll be snagging one of your photos off the internet to illustrate.

About
I'm just your average working stiff who loves nice things and hates to pay for them. This blog outlines my efforts to navigate that treacherous shopping/saving divide through swappin', thriftin', and even a little resellin'. Many of the pieces in my wardrobe cost me just $1! We've heard a lot about people "living above their means" in recent years; I'm championing the concept of living large *below* your means - whatever that means for you. :)
