Shadow Persona Goes to the Grocery

I only took a short trip out this morning, but I had Natalie's Shadow Persona thread on the mind and wanted to revisit my SGT (Steampunk Girly Tomboy) look.

Today we have my statement steampunk boots, which I'd not worn since quitting my old job, paired with sort of a girlie preppy/schoolboy look. It could be argued that it's more of a schoolGIRL look, but I'm still feeling the tomboy vibe because of the flannel fabrication of the dress and use of a pullover instead of cardigan... I'm not sure why, but pullovers always feel more masculine to me.

This is Day 2 of my pincurled hair - I've not washed or brushed it since the curling. It's really almost back to stick straight, but there's a tiny bit more texture in there that I'm trying to milk for another day.

I also tried a little something different with my photos today. Instead of placing my camera on the roof of my car, I balanced it on the window wiper. I've got to dial in the focus better somehow, but I do like this angle better. You guys might think it looks the same, but IDK, maybe it just looks more like what I see in the mirror.

Love the sweater over the dress, gives a really modern feel. Very cool boots too. Great outfit!

Great outfit Rae! Your boots are awesome.

LOVE the socks peeking out from under the boots! And the pullover works brilliantly over the dress. Fab look!

Totally tomboy girly tuff. The boots are TDF.

Ooh, I was thinking I want another flannel shirt but maybe what I really need is a shirt dress! Love it, esp with the boots.

I haven't had a chance to comment on your previous threads, Rae, but I just wanted to chime in and say that I absolutely love your new do: this "new", more texturized version, but also the sleeker look that doesn't read like "helmet hair" to me at all.
As far as your outfit is concerned: perfect from head to toe. Also: I honestly have never seen you wear anything blah, you have a fantastic sense of style and you are brilliant at combining pieces and colours in a way that makes everything feel totally Rae-esque.

Oooh Rae, I love this look head to toe. Your hair does look a little RATE-ier today--nice! And I love the plaid and boots. I love your steampunk schoolgirl look so much. In fact I am also wearing a plaid skirt and sweater and boots today too! An unintentional twin day! I'll have to post my pics for you!

Love the mustard colored wall background. Your pics look great!

I too love your hair--not sure I've said so either.

This is a great fun look for a December day. (I'm not a fan of wintery months.) It looks good outside and looks comfortable for being indoors.

Inge, that means so much to me! It took a long time to feel "me" in most things I wear, and I am happy that others appreciate the look as well.

Natalie, I commented on your thread - so fun! Your UWP side is just as awesome as your DB side.

I love these boots, too. Must keep wearing them whenever I can take the heel!

Very much loving the socks peeping out of the tops of the boots. Completely sweet and naughty in the best possible way.

  • cciele replied 11 years ago

Yup, I'm feeling the tomboy vibe too and loving it -- have fun with this persona!

Love this, Rae!! Oh, to have your LOOOONG calves and to be able to wear socks peeking from the tops of boots!

I agree with you that a pullover feels more masculine. So I am buying "tomboy." Glad you got to wear those fantastic boots today.

As for your hair, yup, my daughter is Asian and she likes her bangs to be piecey and we have tried a lot of product to do it. The ones to make your hair go punk usually do it best, but it lasts for part of a day only.

I personally love the sleeker look on you, too, and to me it does not read in the least conservative. If you feel it does, then that is just a question as Una says of over time getting the right cut. We have found that razoring and other sort of random snipping techniques really help. Incidentally, I need this too because although my hair has some natural wave and texture due to the grey coming in, it is also fine and HUGELY thick, so I absolutely have to have chunks cut out in a sort of random way to get any movement or "edge" to it.

This is one of my favorites "Rae" looks. Love the layering and the boots! I get the hair frustrations -- mine keeps doing this "Mary Tyler Moore" thing, and in dark hair it can be difficult to create dimension and texture. That said, I love the shiny, swingy look you've been sporting! Wear this one again.

I really like that plaid dress with the sweater over it - great boy/girl look. I know what you mean about the subtle differences in camera angle that are only detectable to yourself. This angle certainly works - you look great!

  • Freckles replied 11 years ago

Really like the new way you have positioned your camera, makes a big difference,

I really like this outfit on you. I would never even imagine combining these items and it is brilliant.
