Team Wear: Circus Crop

I was killing time at lunch the other day and found this awesome little cropped sweater at F21. I am in love with the in-between neckline that works for me much better than a standard crew- or turtle-neck. I think it somehow looks neck-lengthening despite coming up a bit high... possibly because it does not hit right at either end of the neck? In any case, it's also a very cozy, cotton-rich fabric that feels way more expensive than it is.

For maximum legginess, I paired it with a black cami and my faded black Gap jeggings. Threw the Burberry over the top - do you think I should hem the trench up a bit? It seems like it's fighting with my tall boots.

Only worn out for a quick lunch with DH. Having kind of a downer of a day today, so it was nice to have a little something to cheer me up.

Such a cute sweater!  I would personally never let a tailor near my Burberry trench if I owned one.  If anything, I think the boots may be a little tall.

I agree with Liz but am not very good at proportions. You look adorable.

That sweater is awesome! I noticed it in your K/R post and was wondering where it'd come from.

I do think that either the trench is slightly too long or the boots are slightly too tall. I'm not super good at telling proportions from photos that aren't straight on and static though, so I don't stand too firmly on that opinion.

I have a cropped Topshop sweater but I always feel muffin-toppy in a tank and skinnies.  If I looked like you I'd wear it a whole lot more.  FAB!

    Thanks for the feedback!

I think I figured something out about the trench after wearing it today: when left open, the front hangs down lower than when it's buttoned up. Probably why I didn't worry about the length when I first got it. Almost all my boots are this tall in the front (the Cortonas come up higher on the sides), so it's probably easier to adjust the coat to match them.

Liz, you make a good point, and I should see if I can have it shortened by Burberry.

That sweater is gorgeous and I think your proportions are great in this outfit.  I just may have to get myself down to Forever 21 tomorrow...

And those are the most beautiful pair of Ugg boots I have ever seen.  I didn't Uggs could look this good!

I've seen the crops in the stores, but not anyone wearing them yet.  You're styling is terrific .... cheeky, but polished.  As for the trench, I kind of like a boot/coat match, although it is reminiscent of the 70's, and a gap has been more popular laterly.

Fun new top!  I haven't seen a cropped top styled with jeans before (always with a skirt) and this is a great look!  If the length of the Burberry is driving you batty then you have to get it fixed.  I've made the mistake of investing in pieces that were not a perfect fit on me, and they always end up a wardrobe orphan.  Price is not enough to sport something, it still has to fit properly too.

You look good! I like how you layered a tank under the cropped sweater.

  • carambola replied 10 years ago

Maximum legginess, indeed - your legs go on for miles here! Fun sweater.

As for the Burberry, do you wear it more often open or closed? I went back to your original post showing it closed and it looks so perfect there. I like it as is here open too. Does it bother you?

Love that sweater Rae. Definitely a lovely leggy look. Your Burberry is gorgeous too. Hope you perk up soon.

Super cute and mod, Rae! I love it. YOu look fantastic :)

I need to get back to circus stripes... :D

How does the trench look when buttoned with the boots? Admit it does look a bit long and the boots a bit tall...

  • cciele replied 10 years ago

Great proportions with the cropped sweater. I've seen these in the store and had no idea how to pull them off -- which you do so nicely!

I'd be paranoid about hemming the Burberry, but perhaps it is a titch long for your tall boots...

I love the idea Rae of pairing a crop with a longer cami! I am planning to try this! I like the length of the trench and the height of your boots :)

  • Debra replied 10 years ago

I love this and think you are wearing it perfectly. You look great :)

Super refreshing and clean Rae.  These graphics suit you so well.

    Super cute!
And WHAT! You did not wear this with your Brahmin bag?!

  • Karie replied 10 years ago

Cute sweater! It makes your legs look like they go on forever. I was in F21 last week and saw it - if I didn't have my big 'ol belly to deal with, I'd have bought it myself.

  • Jaime replied 10 years ago

You're so far away from me! But you look great at a distance

  • goldenpig replied 10 years ago

You think I'm kidding, Rae? ;)

  • rae replied 10 years ago

Oh, Natalie, I knew you were not kidding! I'll have to wear them together one day for you. I want to wear a skirt for that look, I think. I like how the bare legs break up the b/w in yours. :)
