The Day I Couldn't Get Dressed & Gentle Souls Birki Update

Man, I couldn't do anything right today! I'm almost embarrassed to show you these since I could not make myself happy, but as it turns out I really do have no shame...

It took me well over an hour to limp through #2-4 before totally giving up and throwing on the dress and random cardi in #1 (which I still didn't love together). I started with #2, but once I saw the photo realized that I wasn't doing myself any favors adding multiple chest flaps to my bust while over my ideal weight. I should have either stayed with #3 or switched to black jeans instead of dress pants, but I couldn't get over feeling like the top half was discordantly casual compared to the bottom half. #4 I actually went to Trader Joe's in, but something still nagged at me as wrong.

The day didn't get any better from there, and I just felt like I did a poor job the whole way through. It's such a weird and ugly feeling when you want to do your best but just can't perform!

In other news, I wanted to let you know about my sad parting with the Gentle Souls platform Birk-esque sandals... after only 2-3 wears, the patent leather started peeling off at the back heel. The rubber tread does not extend completely to the edges of the sole, leaving maybe 1/4 cm of exposed patent on the business end of the shoe - never thought to look for that before, but it's a pretty decent sized design flaw. Thankfully, they were returned without issue. :(

Anyway... how about you guys? Do you ever have those days where you can't even get a FFBO right and nothing goes your way?? Please tell me I am not alone!

I think you look fine in all the pics. I am sorry you did not feel it. Tomorrow will be better!

  • Ingunn replied 9 years ago

If you did anything wrong, it doesn't show. I love the yellow bag!

You are soooo not alone! I was all about dressing for Spring today, white jeans, fab new top, yellow bag (inspired by yours) and jean jacket. Of course, turns out it was definitely not warm enough for 45F with rain and having to do the bus thing, so, had to go with warmth over best look! Not happy, but learned to ensure the look will work with whatever outerwear I'll need.

We all have those days :) I love #3 and I think you are being just a tad hard on yourself in #2, I like the way you have put it all together. Love your yellow accents. :)

Aw Rae, all of your outfits look pretty darn casual cute! I especially like #4 actually; would like to see #2 with your linen blazer when it arrives. I totally have those days too, especially for casual/weekend wear. If there's no time to change I just pop on the biggest smile I can muster and distract people that way ;) *extra hugs!*

(And hey, at least your baseball team isn't on an 8-game losing streak, 11 of the last 13, with an inverse record to your division leading Dodgers -_- )

  • rachylou replied 9 years ago

    What was wrong with #4?

But to answer the question: Yes. Way too many days like that.

  • cciele replied 9 years ago

Sorry you weren't feeling your outfits today. I mean, if I just saw you on the street in any one of those outfits, I'd be admiring your styling skills! But I totally get you about those days. I think it happens to the best of us ;)

And sorry to hear about the Gentle Souls :( Do you think it is a flaw with that particular batch of leather?

  • Kiwichik replied 9 years ago

I agree with everyone else all your outfits look great but of course you needed to feel great in them and of course I gave numerous days when I just don't get it right.

  • Neel replied 9 years ago

You couldn't look bad if you tried! I am not sure what is wrong with those outfits.

AND .... Yes I have had those days :D. Sometimes I just dont like what I see in the mirror. But a dash of attitude fixes that. Lol!

  • Karie replied 9 years ago

Oh yes, I have had those days (more often than I care to admit!). I think you look good - no dressing difficulties in sight. Tomorrow will be better :)

  • kkards replied 9 years ago

oh i think we've all had those days. pre YLF, i would end up with a column of black, not flattering, but easy, no thought involved, and it seemed to match my mood. now i try to at least make an effort to add white, as in black pants, white tee, and black jacket or sweater.

Gosh yes, many days like that! Sometimes my bedroom looks like a hurricane hit it because so many clothes are strewn around after fits of frustration. But we never see ourselves how others see us...you always look put together, even if you are not feeling it.

  • leopardluxe replied 9 years ago

For what it's worth, I think you look fab in all your outfits --and I really hear you on having days when getting dressed feels a chore and everything feels like it looks crappy (even the best of FFBOs) :-)

  • Aubergine replied 9 years ago

I'm glad it's not just me who has days where everything I put on feels awkward! I do think you look nice in all the pics, though, and especially like #3 and #4.

  • replied 9 years ago

I really like 2 and 3, sorry you weren't feeling it today. Too bad about the sandals too.

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

Rae, I think we all have days where we feel this way and nothing works right, especially in the transitional seasons. Or at least that is my experience. I think you look great in all, but I especially like 3/ 4.

  • Joyce B replied 9 years ago

It looks like even the best get that feeling... I don't see anything wrong with your outfits.

  • Joy replied 9 years ago

You are so not alone. As Suz said, the transitional seasons seem the worst. I can't see your outfits very well on my phone now, but what I see looks great. Any outfit looks good with a yellow bag :)

  • viva replied 9 years ago

Consider yourself lucky that you don't work at home, Rae. When days like that hit, it is treacherous. I spent the entire day yesterday working in my pajamas. So not good in so many ways. :(

I swear you look beautiful in everything! I love that dress in #1 -- unexpected and a great column of color.

  • crutcher replied 9 years ago

You are your ususal gorgeous self...Can't tell you had a "horrible, no good, very bad day"...
Yes to your question, do we often have those days?...Call it yesterday and I won't bore you with everything that turned upside down and forced me out of the house without make-up, ppl, a third piece, etc...
Thankfully those days aren't every day and I am again ...myself..
(I am impressed that you were able to get pictures up considering things weren't going so great...Rather, I am impressed that anyone gets pictures up...smile)

Sorry to hear about your Gentle Souls sandals - that stinks! But good that there was a no hassle return.

As for the outfits, they all look fine Rae. I know during seasonal transitions, I often feel "out of sorts" not just stylistically, but in general. It's like we're switching gears, you know?

  • Peri replied 9 years ago

I think your standards are very high! I would have been happy with any of these. My favorite is 2 and I don't even like yellow!

  • texstyle replied 9 years ago

We all have those days but you still look great - I did like #3 quite a lot I must admit.

  • jackiec replied 9 years ago

FWIW I think you look great in all the shots!

I do have days like that - all the time, really. I'm sure you'll feel better in a day or two. Too bad about the sandals :(

  • shedev replied 9 years ago

I really like the color palette in 3 and 4. Bummer about the sandals.

  • LACeleste replied 9 years ago

Totally have these days!  FWIW, I think you look great in your pics.  I have met you IRL so I have street credibility when I say you are very beautiful!

  • BethL replied 9 years ago

Aww, so sorry, Rae. Yep, I have days like that, too. Yesterday, in fact. I, too, think you looked great in all your photos. But if you weren't feeling it, nothing else matters. Hope today is going better.
