Trippin' on Menswear

Menswear-inspired from head to toe today... worn out in a futile search for a lightweight, curved-hem cardigan for work. Instead, I found a really killer white blouse for a super deal, plus some bras at a Loehmann's closing sale that I can sell to pay for the blouse.

I wore a similar outfit last summer with short shorts, but I wasn't 100% happy with today's version. For one, I think I've moved on from this top, which looks better with exposed legs. Also, it's a bit too short when I sag my BF jeans to the low hip. Boo.

Next - and this is really embarrassing to admit to my Fairy Godmothers - I keep tripping over my feet in these shoes! If you have ever wondered why I don't wear them more, that is why. I have seriously taken a legit, arm-flailing, nosedive at least once every time I've gone out. *shame face* Is there a way to learn how to walk in pointy toes, as one would learn to walk in heels? Cuz y'all know I can do heels... and it's seriously bumming me out not to wear these oxfords more! :(

Ooh, I love it so much! Very mischievous look, Rae and suits you very well. Did you wear cami under the vest: I always afraid of the "exposure" wearing vest as a top with jeans.

I don't know how you do it--every outfit is so amazing. I love the striped vest on you. When I fall in shoes I discipline myself to get rid of them. It has happened! But it's not worth a sprain or worse.

Can you wear a long cami underneath? Glad you kept the Aidens!

You most likely slightly drag your toes when walking. On a heel, your foot is foreshortened by the angle, so your toe is lifted up. In your flat crocs, the toe is rounded so even if you drag it probably doesn't hit the ground. But on these, you probably pivot your ankle only when taking a step so you don't give yourself enough ground clearance. Can you film yourself walking? That can help identify bio mechanical things.

Great outfit. How do you do it?
I have been trying to find vests -- after giving some away years ago-- found a vintage tan linen one but would like different colors & menswear fabrics and tailored like yours. Thrift and consignment may be the only place right now.

Such a cool outfit - and look at your shoulder and arm definition!  Beautiful woman!  Have you been working out?  I LOVE the look of strong women with defined, sculpted arms and shoulders (thank goodness - because that's what I have - even when I don't work out - its a genetic thing.)
So, I'm curious about why you say the vest looks better with shorts - I'm just trying to learn here - why is that????  Also, I don't have any tips for the shoes - I sometimes have the same problem with flat pointy toed shoes - I think it just takes practice.  I must say that they sure look good on you!

I think I see what you mean on the top, but if you hadn't me tinned it, I probably wouldn't have noticed! You look cool and chic for a day of rest!

I would say strike first with your heel when you walk.

ETA your stride might look more like this

Very cute look. So relaxed, yet a bit naughty. Well done.
As for pointy toe'd shoes: when they were in fashion a couple (OK... a lot) of years ago, they were combined with wider trousers. I smacked to the ground so many times, I must have an angle. Like with my eye only an inch away from a sharp point. Like in the middle of a very busy road, snatched to the traffic island by my husband, just in time. Etc. Really those shoes could have literally killed me. I was so glad they went out of fashion. So I am hesitating now that they are coming back in. How many warnings will I get?
And I can walk on high heels really well.

No fear, you are cracking me up... I am allowed to laugh because that is so me.

So I have to look again, because it may have just been morning fogginess, but compared to my other flats, these are like 1.5 inches longer...??? Maybe I should only wear when I can shuffle along slowly...

Fab outfit and the fit arms do make it even better! The stripe vest is awesome :)

Oh my! though.... I just ordered this shoe Friday after admiring them on you for months. I hope I'll be able to walk without troubles.

  • rae replied 10 years ago

Oh, Sarah, I hope they work for you! I always have to size up because of my freakishly long toes, especially in pointy shoes, so hopefully it is not a common problem. :T

Thanks Rae! I am going to be extra sure to do a lot on walking around the house before deciding to keep.I sized up in the Miista's based upon the other reviews too... but I did measure my Cole Haan oxfords and they are about an inch longer than my other flats and are fine so I am hopeful :)

I think this looks fab...and perfectly Rae.  You can do no wrong style-wise in my book!

    Be careful with those shoes!
