Urban Warrior Flashdance

No, that's not my new style moniker (you can put down the tomatoes)!

I really was helping a friend choreograph a dance for her project yesterday. So here I am in gear with glam sunnies and handbag - because sometimes you just have to run with the LALA Land mores.

But to continue the moniker discussion from yesterday, I'm thinking of going with "00Noir" - the 00 recalls the Bond element, which is at once British, sporty, luxe, sleek, classic, and rugged - while the noir portion stands for the dark, dystopian, trench-wearing, black-and-white, Tim Burton/Bladerunner/Dark City qualities. Able to drop "princess" since I imagine a female 00 gets to wear colorful, glamorous gowns just as much as Bond gets to wear a tux. Any good??

Tie dye tank - handed down
Karma harem capris - $1 at flea market
Elizabeth and James sunnies - NAS

I like the title 00noir. The sweater is pretty.

Love it--simple, but very much to the point of where you want to go with your style. I think the real value of these style monikers is to evoke a feeling that should be there, inside us, when we contemplate an item as a possible purchase. Sort of "I can't always express it, but I know when I feel it" sentiment. I've always thought that intuition and instinct ought to be as much a part of wardrobe building as practicality and logic.

I love that you are able to come up with such fantastic style descriptors. I am continually struggling with mine.

And those harem capris! I die. I love them!

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

    What Gaylene so wisely said.

  • CocoLion replied 10 years ago

I didn't know you were a dancer?!?  We need to discuss (many years of ballet and jazz dance here, but haven't taken class in 4 years).

Love the $1 harem pants paired with the slouchy top.  As for the Worishofers, I can't help but want to see them with a dress.  In Germany, I recall waitresses wearing them with dirndls and a waist belt with money in it.

Great sweater and bag!  I think the 00noir moniker is very fitting and seems to be where your style is going.  I didn't get a chance to comment on your other thread although I did read through it.  There have been several WIW's of yours lately that I thought were not UWP (although they looked great).  I had the thought that if someone else had been wearing the same outfit, the forum would never have mentioned UWP.  So I thought it was very timely when you posted about your style evolution and need for a new description.

Double-o Noir seems perfect for your evolving style, Rae!  I love the sweatshirt.  And do you have the shiniest hair on the planet or what?

  • rachylou replied 10 years ago

    Harem capris are brilliant!

00Noir quite works for me, if I don't say...

  • cciele replied 10 years ago

00Noir -- love it! Very clever.

And those Worishofer wedges, I think you've sold me on trying them out ;)

Fantastic outfit Rae! It is flattering and visually interesting. Great details IMHO.

I also really like your new moniker - it completely suits you.

Gaylene - your comment "I've always thought that intuition and instinct ought to be as much a part of wardrobe building as practicality and logic" is something I've really been thinking about lately.

Thanks, ladies! I am glad the moniker seems to work. Gaylene, as you said, it is more to induce a state of mind than anything else.

Denise, I wouldn't say I was good enough to be called a dancer. I had to have some training in pop and hiphop, because I was an ESPN-style competitive cheerleader. Why did you stop? I haven't had a class in probably 15 years...

Cathy, DNA shoes is having a sale on these right now - under $50!

What a fun outfit; I think only you could put those pieces together and look so great. And oh my that bag.

Love the new moniker! And Gaylene is a very wise woman indeed.

  • deb replied 10 years ago
