WIW: Another Floaty Flea Market Frock

This isn't the most flattering dress, but it sure is light and airy in the heat. Since I've been having to wash a dress a day to keep up with all the gross sweat, I had to pick this baby up on my last swap meet trip. The fabric is "bemberg" -- apparently a type of rayon that imitates silk. Never heard of it before, but I like it! Came as a full-length dress and got hacked off at home. I wish I could find more things in this fabrication!

Rust dress - flea market
Diesel jacket - flea market
Bullet pendant - gift :)
bag - flea market
rope sandals - flea market

I think its really cute Rae! And, I love that jacket - you say you got it at a flea market? I still want to go with you one day and observe you in action!

So cute! Rayon is fast becoming my favorite fabric for ridiculously hot summer weather, it's more affordable than silk, but almost as cooling.

Why would this not be flattering? I think it's flattering actually. I am on a little break from cross body bags, but this dress is like a blank canvas screaming for one! Not that your new statement print bag isn't fab! Just an idea for another way to accessorize your new bemberg baby.

ETA -- and yes, this heat is just incredible. It's been around 100 since late July up here. Several times I have become dizzy from the heat.

I like it a lot. My two GoTo dresses for high humidity and heat are both the same kind
of silky, floaty rayon. Rayon, remember, will shrink some even in cold water, supposedly every time. I'd hand wash, briefly.

Rae this looks like a great little warm weather dress. Fit, color all work for you.

You made fantastic flea market scores. That dress is well proportioned and is awesome, not to mention the shoes, and it all works together great (and keeps you cool!).

Heh. Since I'm already being fixated, I may as well point out that your cute dress's cut and color remind me, in an overal and very flattering way, of this dress:

I was too busy looking at your wickedly awesome outfit to notice whether or not the dress is flattering.

.... which it is, btw. You can totally carry it off!

Great color on you and the drape of rayon (it looks a bit like Tencel?) is perfect for hot days.

I love rayon. Is sooooo cooling!
I think the frock is fantastic and I love that bag and the crazy pattern.

That color is fantastic on you, Rae! And I love the dress with the denim jacket.

Cute! It's got kind of that 90s shape i see in a lot of dresses when i'm out thrifting. Beautiful color and you styled it so nicely. ;)

Perfect outfit for a sweltering day!

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

Gorgeous, Rae! I think it's a perfect summer dress!

  • Jonesy replied 11 years ago

I love the color on you, and the dress looks perfect for a super-hot August day!

Oh, Rae you got a good one! Some of the nicest tailored jackets come with a Bemberg lining, and it's wonderful because it breathes. You did a great job with the shortening, and this is a fab little outfit. I hear you on washing things out everyday. I love how the wrinkles just fall out of rayon when you hang it to dry.

Is there enough of the fabric leftover from your alteration to do anything with? You could make a floaty tank out of it, or even just the front of a tank and use another fabric on the back.
