WIW: before and after

I've got to get ready for my good friend's birthday dinner, but I wanted to pop in and share some of my backlogged WIWs and also a new one from today - the latter includes new hair and new pants (new to me, anyway; they were inherited from a friend).

Interesting that in the Jacket Challenge month we have three outfits with NO jackets! More on this later. But for now, I just want to say how sassy and current I felt in these slouchy silk pants! I normally would have been bothered by the long torso here, but I thought I'd embrace it per Angie's decree that long torsos are fab.

I am still not a pro at styling this new haircut, but I assure you that it has much better texture IRL. If anyone has more styling ideas, please feel free! :)

Haircut! Adore! You look fantastic with this short hair - total style elevation! Gorgeous!

ETA - love the slouchy pants, the whole outfit is fantastic, but I was so wowed by your hair I didn't notice it at first.

    SQUEEEEEEE!!!!

This ranks up there with the Suz haircut in the YLF annals of haircut awesomeness!! And I get to say that. So THERE.

Mary K is going to say *PLONK.*

If Angie were on here, you KNOW what she would say. :-)

AMAZING! SOOOO perfect on you, Rae!

  • Ginkgo replied 11 years ago

Very chic! Your long hair looks "girlish" in comparison.

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Ohhh those black slouchy silk pants are incredible!! I am fairly convinced that style was made for you :) Still loving the short hair! Do you use a blow drier? A little mousse at the roots with vertical lift while drying it works really well prior to that wax for even more messy volume.

You look fantastic! I think your hair looks incredible. However, since you asked, have you tried Aveda's Light Elements Shaping Wax? I recommended it to Una too. It is incredible stuff. Really easy to use, but some serious hold and texture creating. It changed my relationship with my hair--total love. And I don't even usually like Aveda products. It will help seriously chunk out your hair.

This adds such an urban, sophisticated edge to your already fab look. I squealed too.

Rae, you look so fantastic that tears sprang to my eyes. Seriously! The slouchy pants + hair are sending me OVER the ever-lovin' MOON! For once, words escape me. Oh, and I love the green bag too!

  • Deborah replied 11 years ago

Love the outfits but I think the new do is your best accessory. Stunning.

  • Joy replied 11 years ago

    Rae, you are beautiful!

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

AAAAAAAAAAH! Those pants! That friend! Your hair! Can't stand it.

  • morethanbeige replied 11 years ago

    Wow, Rae, you look stunning!

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

Suz, she would say that outfit #3 is KILLER TO THE POWER OF KILLER. That means the very best on YLF, and I do not say that lightly.

And to think you were against cutting your hair and dropped crotches!!!! Well sweet, Rae. You have *never* looked better :). You look chic, sophisticated, modern and boyish.

Now excuse me while I literally rest my arm and recover from your sizzling style quotient....

    *faints*

Thank you and wow... I am kind of surprised by the very positive reactions to this pic - it doesn't look like helmet head? Thank you also, Aida and Parsley, for the product suggestions. It is strange, I always thought of my hair as being sort of thin and limp, and now I feel like it's totally thick and voluminous - hard to wrap my brain around!

Angie and all, I am glad the outfit went over well! It was a favorite, and so comfortable. I wore it from DFS straight to a birthday dinner and felt great at both events. Angie, I am eating my words about the dropped crotches... I guess it wasn't the crotch alone but the fabrication and cut, and the right ones come together like magic!

Oh those silk pants with the grey shirt are amazing! And your hair looks great, you styled it perfectly!

  • milehighstyle (Linda) replied 11 years ago

Rae - that hairsyle is wonderful on you. I love all these looks, but I want to steal outfit #1. Looking great!

  • JulieJohn replied 11 years ago

Rae, your crotch is dropped and so is my jaw. ;D

I love all these looks on you, #1 makes my heart go pitty-pat because of the stunning autumnal color combo and the high-low shirt, it's a beaut!

  • citygirldc replied 11 years ago

That outfit. That hair. It all balances out perfectly. I can't wait to grow out my hair.

  • Kat replied 11 years ago

Gah.....nearly speechless! Gorgeous, #3 is obscenely amazing. The hair, the pants, the top, the colors....absolutely perfect in every respect. You look really wonderful.

  • Ornella replied 11 years ago

I didn't get a chance to comment on the other thread, but your hair is just fabulous! And I think it is the hair that makes the whole look in #3 work *so well*, the contrast of slouchy pants and sleek hair, simply fantastic.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Rae - you look STUNNING!!! I'm at a loss for words here...

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

Join the D-C brigade, girlfriend! In the right fabric and cut, it's a perfect UWP meets tomboy look.

  • Jamie replied 11 years ago

You look amazing! You are lovely with long or short hair, but the shorter style really brings out your high cheekbones. Just perfect on you. And with that outfit, wow!!!

  • rachylou replied 11 years ago

Total knockout. The hair is the final perfect touch!

  • Ariadne replied 11 years ago

Wow, Rae, you look incredible! Those pants! I was going to ask where you got them but I see they were inherited. Sigh. I didn't think I could do the slouchy/dropped crotch look but now I really want to try.

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Ariadne, I felt the same way when dropped crotches hit the scene. In my defense, the first ones I saw were something like this.

  • Scarlet replied 11 years ago

Photo 3 is just blowing me away! I love your hair and the outfit! Your new do reminds me a bit of Fernanda's. She has that chic rock and roll vibe going on as well.

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Scarlet, you are right! I need to go pin a pic of Fernanda's hair!

  • Kyle replied 11 years ago

Modern. Chic. Fashion-forward. Youthful sophistication with just the right amount of edginess. You are a real head turner. Polished edge. Is that a thing?

  • Lisa replied 11 years ago

Ack! Love the new hair! It really draws the eye to your lovely face! Great orange color on you in #2.
