WIW: Cerulean Blue is a Cool Breeze

Any X-Files fans out there? I feel like The Pusher, trying to make it be Fall and about 20-degrees cooler by sheer force of will. This outfit was worn out to run some errands, check on some Gap items I'd been eying, pop into the Beverly Hills Anthropologie to see if I might want to interview there, and pick up rations at Trader Joes. Now *that* is a Friday!

For anyone who might be interested, I had gone out to try this Belted Waxed Jacket by Gap - I would have resold my polyester Cole Haan jacket for an even exchange and SYC preservation. A bunch of reviewers said it was big on them at 110 lbs... well, I'm at 125, and it's still big on me in XS. It was also way thinner than I'd thought and felt more like a cheap nylon jacket than a nice, waxed finish. No bueno.

Come visit, Rae. We haz fall. ;o)

    Love that blue. *sigh*

Love the cool blue on you for a hot day! And I hear you on the thin strap so as little touches you as possible. I just carry my ID and phone in my pockets 90% of the time here when I'm out walking in the heat.

OMG, when I read the title of your post on the "Latest" page, my mind instantly went to "The X-Files" and I was going to make some comment about it, but I see you already did in your post, lol. I will forever equate cerulean blue with The Pusher.

Anyway, great outfit. Sorry about the hot weather. I feel your pain (although it's been high 80s/low 90s here, so I've been wearing jeans all week). :)

    Love you in blue, Rae!

Is cerulean blue a lighter version of cobalt?

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Mo, even pockets sound too thick and hot today!

Ana, yay, I'm happy you got the reference. The Pusher is one of my favorite characters.

Ali, this is what Pantone calls cerulean:

I was a HUGE X-phile back in the day. What a great show with interesting character dynamics. I can't believe how much &*%^ Scully put up with from Mulder. And yet, I still really liked Mulder. Heh.

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Totally. The way she would just sigh at him sometimes while he would go off on some wild theory... they were the best!

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

You look positively heavenly in cerulean blue!

Thank you for the review of the Gap Waxed Jacket. That is the kind of piece I would be tempted by, too. Good thing you checked it out in store before ordering. I found the same thing with their latest utility jacket. I briefly considered getting it but trying it on I could see that it just wouldn't fit. Maybe in a petite size..but we don't have petites in Canada. So it was a no go. But I wasn't much impressed with the quality anyway.

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Sounds very familiar, Suz. I'm wondering if it might be the lettered sizes I have bad luck with at Gap. The items I have at home and love are all numbered sizes, and the Academy blazer that fit me was a numbered size as well. I was a little bummed because it was on sale for even less than the online sale price.

Wow! That color is BEAUTIFUL on you! Love this - and, I'm impressed that you wore those boots today - talk about stickin' it to this hot weather! LOVE it!

  • Ingunn replied 11 years ago

Beautiful color on you, Rae! I envy you that warm weather, though. We have five months of winter ahead. That is really too much if if you ask me!

Loved The X Files! I so wanted to be Agent Scully:)

And I can't hear or see the word cerulean without thinking of The Devil Wears Prada and Miranda's lecture to Andi? Love this outfit. Devine color and lovely floaty cool dress.

  • anne replied 11 years ago

I never watched the X files (DH did) but I too, thought of the Devil wear Prada as soon as I saw the word cerulean.
    lovely cool floaty dress Rae

Gorgeously fab! Your boots make the look feel Autumn too.

(How can you not be a Mulder fan).

  • Kari replied 11 years ago

You had me at cerulean, Rae. ;) I so love those boots on you, and that dress!!!!

  • Jonesy replied 11 years ago

You look fab--love the boots with the gorgeous blue dress!

  • CocoLion replied 11 years ago

This is one of your best outfits in a long time. Love that hi lo dress on you with the booties.

And I can relate to weather in the 90s... it's still baking here, although cooler at night. My shorts are getting lots of wear.

That blue is sublime on you Rae and I love it with the more rugged boots. Too cool for school.

My hubby and I never missed an episode of X-Files and now we own them all on DVD. I loved Scully's double breasted suits with the gigantic shoulder pads.

  • KathyL replied 11 years ago

I love the pairing of the dress with the boots. Cerulean made me think of the devil wears Prada too. That color looks great on you and the boots are a nude which make your gorgeous legs look a mile long.

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Oof, have I been shooting blanks lately, Denise? I guess 90+ degrees is really out of my element. I daresay I miss the arctic office!

Shannon, we have the boxed set, too. :D
