WIW: First Day

Getting ready to leave for my first day at the new job! I will have to wear a uniform tee shirt but, since I have not yet been issued one, HR requested that I wear "professional dress" for my first day. I wanted to be comfy in case I actually have to move around and lift/fold/stock something, so I went with the jacket from my Tahari interview suit and ponte pants - because of the black sleeves, there is still the illusion of a suit, which I like. I am also debuting new magenta wedges. A $26 score that is infinitely nicer to my feet than those dastardly Naturalizer pumps. Finished with my tiger pendant from Italy for good luck.

Tahari blazer - TJ Maxx
Citron blouse - Ann Taylor
INC ponte pants - flea market
Jessica Simpson Janie wedges - Marshall's
Saturno laquer pendant - Florence, Italy
London Fog bag - Christmas gift from Mom, Marshall's, years ago

You look so fab, I'm pretty sure they're going to make an exception for you to not wear a uniform. (Does that make sense? Having trouble with the wording.)

Such a great color mix there. I'm still not over your Tahari jacket. It's the best find ever.

  • Vicki replied 11 years ago

Hello, Gorgeous Tiger! You look spectacular and I love the new magenta wedges. Congrats on the position, Rae. So happy for you! I wish you could wear what you wear, because you would definitely show them thing or two.

  • Marley replied 11 years ago

Rae! I missed the thread that you had got the job! Congratulations! Its at the Rack, right? Do you know what you will be doing? This outfit is a great "first day" kind of look - and I love the color of the top mixed with the shoes!

  • Ginkgo replied 11 years ago

You look terrific! Congratulations on landing the job! And I never would have thought of the citron shirt/magenta wedges combination but it works brilliantly.

  • pil replied 11 years ago

Hope you had a great day! I was thinking along the same line as Dana - they ought to at least have you select the uniform!

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

LOVE! The bright pink pumps soooo make this outfit for me.

And it's so fun to see the "messy" hair, it looks so perfect on you! That wax was such a great tip from Kari. I tried sleeping in mine last night, but my hair looked just as messy as normal in the morning hehe

  • Isabel replied 11 years ago

You look AMAZING ! You will be an inspiration to other women....good luck !

  • Mo replied 11 years ago

FAB! But you are braver than I to wear heels at a standing job, new ones at that! Super congrats - you have the biggest cheering section behind you ;)

  • sarah replied 11 years ago

Fabulous, Rae! Can't wait to hear all about it : )

  • marianna replied 11 years ago

Fabulous!!! Did you do POS training yet?

  • Sveta replied 11 years ago

You look like you are ready to take on anything on your new job! This must be one of my favorite outfits on you, Rae. Citron and magenta, can it be more perfect?
It is too late to wish you luck for your first day but here it is - good luck! :0
How did the fist day go?

  • Jonesy replied 11 years ago

You look fabulous! Love the citron and pink with the neutrals! I hope your first day went well.

  • Jaime replied 11 years ago

Good luck and congratulations! You look super!

  • fern replied 11 years ago

Yay for your new job - I hope the first day went smoothly.
    You look fantastic.

  • Joy replied 11 years ago

Congratulations! YLF and what a great way to wear the jacket from your interview suit!

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Thanks, everyone! I felt great - my feet are still tired, but when we met the Store Manager she said, "You look so fashionable!" so it was all worth it. :)

The uniform is more strict than I thought: the tee shirt plus denim or slacks. I'm hoping that colored denim is acceptable, or life really is going to be all about the boots for some time!

Marianna, no POS training yet, but soon. They didn't have our green POS shirts ready yet. It is a really cool feature!

Today was mostly spent getting used to the floor and organizing things - though I'm sure many people would not like the manual labor, it was very zen for me. :)

  • Ariadne replied 11 years ago

Rae, this is such a gorgeous outfit--possibly my favourite of your looks that I've seen. Just wonderful in every way. Citron + magenta = <3

  • Asingh replied 11 years ago

Rae, citron and pink look great together. And with the black trousers, the look is quite professional.

  • Ingunn replied 11 years ago

Congratulations on your new job! How exciting for you, Rae. You look stunningly beautiful in this outfit, the colors are perfect. I'm glad you had a good start!

  • Debora replied 11 years ago

Congratulations on the new job! So happy your first day went well, and you look wonderful!

  • kellygirl replied 11 years ago

Glad it went well, Rae! Your outfit looked perfect. I never would have thought pink wedges could almost be a neutral. You have great style sense!

  • Carole replied 11 years ago

You looked fabulous for your first day, Rae. I was worried about you wearing those heels all day. Ouch!

  • JulieJohn replied 11 years ago

Rae, that's so funny you mentioned the manual labor being Zen-like. You reminded me of a job I once had back in 1986 I worked for my college's botany department. Part of my varied job required me to plant avocado pits in little bags of dirt. They would drive me out to the greenhouse and leave me there with a big truckload of potting soil, a bunch of bags, a bucket of avocado pits, and a little trowel. It was repetitive, calm, and the dirt smelled great. It was one of the best jobs ever! Thanks for jogging that memory.

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

I totally understand the zen part of organizing racks... YAY for a job you will love!

  • Sylvie replied 11 years ago

Glad to hear your first day went well! YLF is rooting for you.

  • Debby replied 11 years ago

After seeing your great outfit, I'd think they'd be inspired to rethink the dress code! You look fantastic! I love the yellow blouse and pink shoes together.

  • Caro in Oz replied 11 years ago

Glad you had a good day & a great compliment.
You reminded me of the quote:
Before enlightenment - chop wood, carry water.
After enlightenment - chop wood, carry water.

  • Jenava replied 11 years ago

Glad your first day went well! The mobile POS is pretty slick. (-: You'll do great! Hopefully you can wear color denim (or at least white?).

ETA - can you wear blouses or knitted tops under the tee? A cute button down collar peeking out could be cute!

  • Jjsloane replied 11 years ago

I've been kind of out of it (TONS o' work) but belated congrats on the job. Sounds great for you and you'll learn tons and with your knowledge you'll advance in no time. Your outfit is really great and please tell me about those shoes! I heart them!

  • CocoLion replied 11 years ago

Rae -- I missed the thread about you getting the job. Congratulations! I think you will do extremely well and will advance quickly. I love the outfit, the pink shoes are fab.

If you find any excellent 8 hour standing shoes, let me know. I love my clogs but stylish they are not.

I used to do desk work, more thinking/organizing/planning work, now I'm mostly a server although I also do managerial work at my family's restaurant. I'm less depressed having a job that keeps me physically active. I think you will like this aspect of your job, if you can get enough walking on the floor in.

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Jenava, I am right there with you and *dying* to ask more dress code questions, but I don't want to seem over eager to push the rules. Since we are pushing colored denim right now, I'll ask about that first, then layering as it cools down. Oh yes, I have it all planned out, lol.

Jeanne, the shoes are Jessica Simpson "Janie" wedges. I looked and looked for a link to give you, but it looks like they aren't online anymore. If you happen to be a size 8.5, I have an extra pair I was going to return, as the 9 fit me better.

Denise, I found the *exact* same thing! Being at the desk all day was really depressing, and I didn't realize it fully until I left. I totally feel like Ron Livingston at the end of Office Space. My Frye boots were great for the long days at the mall during Shoptoberfest, though I only wore them for 4 hours at work today, so they haven't been retail tested yet.
