WIW: Hanging Out with the Rule-Breaking Crowd

Blue with black with brown, no waist marker/belt/tuck, flats at work and with a pencil skirt... I guess I was feeling rebellious today.

Manidipa had suggested I try the cobalt blazer layered over a cobalt shirt, and the rest fell into place. It's not the most summer of outfits, but mine is not the most summery of personalities. ;) I'm hoping the look is a little preppy/Ralph Lauren and not just a strange, discordant mishmosh of rugged and dressy elements.

You break your own rules with the best of them.

    KILLER.

    Love it. Coveting the boots!

What the stylish Warrior Princess wears to a board meeting! I think you pull off the disparate elements with panache. Love the choker, understated cool. You can personal-shop for me anytime! Also enjoy the Rae's-eye-view perspective in #4.

Rae, you look smashing as usual! There's nothing unprofessional about those flat boots. And the cobalt blazer is fitted, so it defines your waist.

I dig your leather choker, too. It's like a little belt for your neck!

You look smashing in that shade of blue, and I love the color-mixing and fab boots!

I didn't even miss your waist! I love the Manidipa inspired take on a cobalt twin-set too, perfect with a B & W skirt. Boots and bag are such a yummy, leathery brown! *swoon*
    Have a happy day!

What a visual feast for the eyes Rae! Love this combination of colour with neutral stripes with lace up kick-a** boots! You go girl!!!

Love, love, love the rule breaking.

Rock on! Gosh I miss wearing boots. Okay, I am now officially ready for the Fall/Winter season.

SO FAB!! I am super happy now that I didn't get that jacket returned to F21 in time, because it NEEDED to be in your closet!! *happy sigh*

    And that necklace? Amahzing!!

Oh I can't wait until it is boot weather. This looks great and I am going to steal some elements from this as inspiration.

That cobalt jacket is so stunning on you, Rae. Seriously amazing.

You broke the rules quite fashionably. Great job! Love the boots.

You would certainly catch my eye / turn my head in this outfit! The mixture of rugged with dressy is very Rae. Love your new choker, didn't get to mention that when I saw it the first time.

Thank you! I was not 100% sure of this outfit when I left this morning - but you don't know until you try, I guess.

JulieJohn, I'm glad you like the RaeCam. :)

Elizabeth, that is a good point about the blazer. I think I said this very thing to Shannon about her leather jacket, yet it did not occur to me for myself. It's good to know there's an easy way out of the belt/tuck rut.

Claire, I *love* thinking of this as a "twin set." It helps me feel more confident that the look is firmly grounded in a preppy fashion lexicon.

MaryK, far be it for me to be happy you missed out on a return, but I WILL say I'm very glad this blazer showed up at the swap!

ETA: I forgot to post this yesterday, but here's a pic of my leather choker inspiration. :)

    Serenity NOW!

You gotta know your rules to break 'em :D Love this outfit, Rae! I realllyyyy dig the idea of a blazer-blouse twinset, now that's some matchy-matchy I can get behind. I agree with Elizabeth that the fitted blazer is enough waist definition, especially coupled with the slim skirt and the little peek of knees.
