WIW: layered BB shirts, styled hair, and DIY galaxy dress

1) Worn to read "Puss n' Boots" to school children. The dress is cat print, so I used it as my clue to have the kids guess which story they would get.

2) Here is the DIY dress on the bod. I figured I should get a pass/fail vote before I spend the time to finish the back... I tried to use the top galaxy swirl to lower the neckline a tad.

3) Favorite outfit in a long time. I got this BB shirt as a package deal with the one in #1. I didn't know if it would work, since it's pastel blue. But under this orange shirt, it works like a gray to soften the bright color - and I just can't get over how well the collar stays popped *all day.* Bummer that you can't see it well, but it was definitely more prominent IRL as I moved about. Styled my hair a bit with wax this am, and I rather like the fuller, messier 'do. How about it - intentionally messy, or pain ol' unkempt?

Rae I love your outfits! You look absolutely amazing in dresses! What kind/brand of boots are you wearing in #3?

  • Aunty replied 12 years ago

    I am totaly dumb struck!!
3 beautiful outfits. love the idea of the kitty dress for the children, 3 just takes my breath away, you look gorgeous in it.
Now 2 is killer, you have to finish it and fast. the fact that you made it yourself just makes it a double killer!

    Ps love the hair :)

  • CocoLion replied 12 years ago

#3 is drop dead chic! Now I know what you mean about an orange jacket.

Love the kitties on the dress. The outfit looks work appropriate to me too. I'm surprised your furry friend didn't want to get in on the picture. He used to sneak into almost all of your pictures.

I'm not up to speed on your DIY project but the dress looks very pretty on you so far, a beautiful silhouette.

Rae, I am absolutely speechless. You blow me away. #2 is gorgeous, I can't believe you made it yourself--you are so talented and creative. And #3 is just killer--orange is your color for sure. The grey Frye Julias are divine! And I love the hair--the fuller messier do suits you! #1 is really cute too--I wish I could see a closeup of the cat pattern.

#3 my favorite of three great outfits. Love how you got the design element placement exactly right on the galaxy dress, too.

  • Sarah A replied 12 years ago

#3 is great! And you are sewing the dress in #2??!! I am impressed!

  • Jjsloane replied 12 years ago

I like 1 and 2, but I LOVE #3!! The colors the fit the boots the hair OH MY. Fantastic. Looks professional but hip.

  • sarah replied 12 years ago

Rae, #3 with those boots is SO fab, and I adore you in that cat dress. What GREAT outfits. I must have missed the DIY thread, so I'm not sure what you did to #2...

I love the combo of that pastel blue and red. Our Bella was wearing a lovely button up pastel blue shirt under a red sweater for the meetup and she looked divine. That's how I got the idea of buying one of my BB shirts in that color.

You are so talented. Little Zap would snatch that galaxy dress from you in a New York minute, along with the boots on #3 and all of your band rehearsal items.

I must say I like the new do a whole lot. I can't get past how you styled it in #2. I love how your stylist layered the front pieces to frame your face so perfectly. He/she is good and trust me, I recognize a good haircut when I see it. I'm very picky about all things hair.

    Rae,
All three are beautiful outfits (so charming you wore kitties and made the kiddies guess!). That #3 is absolutely stunning. The orange jacket is swoonworthy and those boots, how gorgeous they are! Are they DOCS?

  • modgrl replied 12 years ago

LOVE your work outfits! That orange is amazing on you. I love what you did with the button down underneath. So, what is your hesitation about the galaxy dress? It's wonderful on you. I think the skin tight spandex black milk one could be tricky, this one fits you just right!

I really like your kitty cat layered outfit - totally fab for school children!
Your galaxy inspired dress is AMAZING Rae - you need to finish the back.
And what can I say about #3 other than k-worthy! I love the colour combination and the "chicness" of the outfit with the popped collar, blue with orange and then those amazing boots. Your hair always looks great but I really love it like this.
    FAB FAB FAB!!!

  • rae replied 12 years ago

Natalie, here's a pic of the cat print: they have bow ties!

For those who asked about the boots, they are Frye Julia Lace-Ups in gray. Mo has the same and Janet has them in black!

This is the DIY thread... didn't sew it, just painted.

Thanks for the clear to finish the dress. I was worried about the colors washing me out possibly. :) And I must say again how much I looooooove those BB shirts! No wrinkles at all, even after being stuffed into slim dresses!

  • Angie replied 12 years ago

LOVE the cat print. How sweet is that? And perfect for the occasion :)

The Galaxy dress looks amazing! Please complete it!

#3 = KILLER. Hair looks fab too!

  • MsMary replied 12 years ago

Love 'em all! #3 leaves me completely speechless from fantastically chic head to impossibly fab toe!!

  • Jem replied 12 years ago

Wow, all 3 outfits are amazing. Please finish the dress, it's fab! The kids must have loved the kitty dress, so cute! I have to agree that #3 is killer!!! I'm so jealous of the whole outfit, especially the boots!

ETA: I love your hair in the last one, too.

  • Kirti replied 12 years ago

Wow your DIY dress looks incredible! Can't wait to see it when it is finished :)

  • Jonesy replied 12 years ago

You look wonderful in everything! Love the print dress, the orange jacket/BB shirt combo (isn't that the jacket that you were considering tossing :)?). I really love the DIY dress--I think you look splendid in that mod silhouette and you should do it more often.

  • Makrame replied 12 years ago

Ah, such great layering looks in 1 and 3! Love the DIY dress, too! Very cool boots in #3, and I am saving layering ideas for inspiration.

  • HelenInCanada replied 12 years ago

Heaven YES - to all three outfits! (How sweet you volunteer at a school...love that!)

The DIY is a *MUST KEEP* and finish - it's your own masterpiece. I'm amazed.

  • fern replied 12 years ago

Well you look fantastic in all 3, but I really like the galaxy dress on you. I wasn't sure from your photos in the other thread, (maybe because it was flat?), but it looks incredible on you. Go DIY!

  • Janet replied 12 years ago

Chiming in with more love for #3! Those boots are excellent, aren't they?

You look amazing in all of these, and I am seriously impressed with the galaxy dress. Taking orders for more? ;-)

  • Suz replied 12 years ago

Wow, Rae, I have really missed seeing your posts, and what a reward this one turns out to be. (I did click in to the amazing ROCK STAR post and was blown away by your beauty in the wedding dress but utterly unsurprised that you're a rock star in your secret life! You're already a rock star here, so why not?)

I LOVE the kitties for kids outfit. And I"ll bet they loved it, too. Hey, it is almost enough to make neutralled out me want to wear it, so it must be great!

As for #3, that is KKKKK worthy! You look stunning. And I love your new hair. It's you, but kicked up a notch.

  • Ornella replied 12 years ago

You are on a roll girl! This must be the best series of outfits you've posted.

  • lyn* replied 12 years ago

Whoa; that DIY so does not look DIY in the most awesome way possible.

  • Ana replied 12 years ago

I love the galaxy print dress on you! And your hair looks amazing. Love the new style!

  • replied 12 years ago

Those kids are so lucky to have you come spend time reading to them. And in your cat dress to boot. I'll bet all of the little girls go home thinking, "I want to look like her when I grow up!"

I love your galaxy dress. It looks REALLY EXPENSIVE. Finish the back. Seriously.

Love the BB shirts. I'm starting to get a thing for the crisp collars/cuffs myself. The light blue is the perfect foil for the orange blazer. Boots are so fab, but of course that is a given! Oh and your hair looks amazing floofed up like that. Do I detect a bit more polish in the make-up department? It really becomes you!

  • nicoleb replied 12 years ago

I like them all but i am loving #3. Those boots! *drool*
