WIW: Oxidation

I waited a whole week to wear this baby again - one of the things I love about K/R posts is that they leave you with a bunch of ready-to-go styling ideas. I was dressed in about five minutes this morning!

Paired my agate print dress with my rust jacket without thinking about it, but I was very pleased when the combination made me think of rust and oxidized copper - fun way to bring that distressed feeling into an outfit without falling back on the faded, sunbleached colors that I complain about (at AllSaints, for example - no brights). Added the Raebot to continue the industrial/metal theme a little bit.

Rust suede jacket - Forever 21
Michael Michael Kors agate print dress - 6pm.com
Brown Perlina bag - $8 via Goodwill!
Boutique 9 mystery booties - swap meet
Raebot necklace - gift from Hubs

    KILLER

I like the simplicity and strong statement, SGT Rae.

  • Tanya replied 11 years ago

Swoon! Love everything about this outfit!

  • replied 11 years ago

Oh this is really delicious! Turquoise and rust: very southwestern too. You have made that sheath dress your own!

  • Diana replied 11 years ago

    Verdigris!

Perfect color combo... now I want to see if I can do this too.

  • modgrl replied 11 years ago

    LOVE!!

Great outfit! I don't think I would have put these colors together on my own (even though I live in the Southwest) but they look great together.

Very cool (and I love the title of your post)!

Beautiful! I love that you let the boldness of that color combo really stand out as the main attraction. It is perfect! Edgy and fun, but in a very wonderfully relaxed way.

I love this look on you, Rae.

What Angie said. Some simplicity makes that dress shine.

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Thanks, all! I like the simplicity, too, especially with all that is going on with the dress - pattern, draping, knotting. I am happy, too, because I hadn't worn this jacket much and was afraid it might not work for the warmer months.

Angie, I didn't think about SGT this morning, but it totally is with the robot, boots, and draped dress!

Claire, yes, the colors are very southwestern, aren't they? Oxidized copper robot laying out in the desert... *fab* image.

Diana, you can do it for sure. I know you have some teal to work with!

I'm curious as how your dalmation booties would look with this.

  • cheryle (Dianthus) replied 11 years ago

Great color combination and verdigris was the word I was looking for too. I find color combinations that occur in nature are often beautiful translated into outfits.

  • Kirti replied 11 years ago

Fab! Such a perfect colour combo :-)

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Anna, I considered a lighter shoe, but felt I needed to bookend my hair in this case. Also, Hubs made me promise not to wear the dalmatian booties with skirts, lol. I will still take a look and see, though!

Diana and dianthus, I SO wanted to use verdigris in the title, but I thought oxidation included the rust color as well. It's such a pretty word - glad it still got some love on the thread!

I am obsessed with all things copper right now so had to do a little visual free association in appreciation of your WIW today since I liked it so much.

  • rae replied 11 years ago

OMG, that sleeping copper kitty is SO CUTE!

  • ManidipaM replied 11 years ago

LOVE everything about this! Some of my favourite colours together. But Raebot is the BESTest!

  • Beth Ann replied 11 years ago

Terrific look, Rae. Am I remembering correctly that you live in SoCal? I'm amazed at your ability to layer all year long. I'm guessing you either work in a refrigerated office, or you run cold. Either way, you look sophisticated and fab!

  • Jonesy replied 11 years ago

I love this color combo and the dress is awesome. Perfect accessorizing too!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

    Great pairing!

  • Jjsloane replied 11 years ago

Great colors together and what fun that it was so easy to dress. Always love seeing the "Raebot" .

  • Louise replied 11 years ago

What a fabulous print, I love the way the brown jacket picks out the brown in the pattern x

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Manidipa, I love Raebot for many reasons - so happy you like him!

Beth Ann, you are right on both counts - I run cold *and* work in a cold office. It's a nice sunny day today, and I've got my jacket and heater on ATM. O_O

This dress is so cool on you, Rae! I remember it from the nature challenge week. I love how you added the quirky robot necklace to really make the outfit "Rae." You look fabulous!

  • Janet replied 11 years ago

I love this! One of my favorite color combinations -- not surprisingly, it shows up in my artwork a lot.

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

I really like this color combo (though I have to wear it with much brighter shades)! Great visual inspiration photo, I'm a huge fan of rust and metal oxidation photography.

  • Amy replied 11 years ago

Pretty! I love these colors and that dress looks incredible on you. Raebot rules! :)
