WIW: Ponte Pants at DFS

Cool morning, hot afternoon, and cool twilight yesterday - I got to remember what it feels like to want for a jacket! Amazing. I thrifted these INC ponte pants a couple weeks ago and WOW, where has this been all my life? So comfy. I thought they would make me feel like I was wearing leggings as pants, but I was very wrong.

At Dress for Success, I took ran my own show for the first time. My first client was in for a week's worth of employment clothing but had never gotten a suit with us, so I had to set her up with a suit as well. I took longer than I should have, because she really had a hard time with button-front tops, and that was the majority of our stock. Since winter is coming, I ended up giving her shells and a few sweaters to mix and match. Also found her some trousers when she said she's never found trousers that fit before!

The second client was there for a suit to interview for Macy's. I loved how she had strong opinions about her suit - it was a challenge to make her 100% happy, but she was thrilled in the end and talked about how jealous her friend would be. She was also very happy to know she could come back after getting hired and get more goodies. :)

In related news, I felt something strange in the toe of my Report boots yesterday. Upon further examination, I found that it was the beginnings of a *hole* I'm slowly wearing through the toe of my boot! Wow, I sure have worn these babies a lot - and I switch off with the sand color, too!

Nice! I like the green top and the brown boots with the black pants. I would never have put black pants and brown boots together, but I really like how it looks. I'll have to keep that in mind this winter.

I have those Inc ponte knit pants -- the ones with five pockets? LOVE them. I practically live in them. So comfy! And they stay nicely tucked into boots. I have been debating about duplicating again this year.

Can you have your boots re-soled?

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Shiny, I was planning to resole them, but the hole is going out the toe box. Bizarre, must be my long toes rubbing every so often - I swear I don't feel any discomfort. I am keeping an eye on my size on Amazon to try and replace.

Good job with your dressing! It sounds like you went out of your way to find clothes to really satisfy your clients. They were very, very lucky to have you for their personal shopper! I find the employment suitings the most fun, but also the most challenging, because I tend to lose all track of time. I'm constantly stealing Angie's ideas for layering shells over shirts to solve gaping issues and make their capsule go even further.

The client going for an interview at Macy's sounds like she knew just what she wanted. Good for you for not only satisfying her, but making her *jumping up and down* happy with her suit. You have helped her have a ton of confidence for her upcoming interview.

I'm so bummed about your boot hole! Can you get it repaired? And I still know not of this ponte knit pant of which you speak. I have the same misconceptions about knit pants as you did, but if I ever run across a pair, I promise to try them on. Your long shirt if perfect with them; perfect for business casual at DFS. I'm glad you're finally getting a break from the heat, too! Enjoy it. :)

You look great! I hope you can get the boot issue resolved!

Beautiful - in fact, I may copy you today. I have ponte skinnies from Joe's Jeans that I LOVE LOVE LOVE.

Love this outfit Rae - understated fabulosity! A question about the ponte knit pants - do they bag out at the knee during the day? I love the slim look of them but have wondered about that.

That stinks about your boots :( I guess it shows how much you love and wear them though! Good luck finding your size for replacements.

It sounds like you are really doing well at DFS Rae - look at the experience you're gaining!

That is a beautiful shade of green for you and fun that you have discovered the joy of the ponte knit pant! Too bad about your boots, sounds like you have gotten a lot of wear from them but seems that they should have held up a little better than that, don't you think?

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Thanks, everyone! I felt great in this outfit, and it was so comfy to move and bend and pin up hems in.

Shannon, I didn't notice any bagging in the knees, though the waist did grow a little by the end of the day.

Carole, I really did wear these a LOT. On very hard walks while sightseeing and biking in Italy, all around town in LA, long hard walks at the swap meet, commuting to bus stops. I'm shocked that the heel taps are still good, but I have never worn a shoe this often before. Nothing to compare it to as far as the toe wear, so I'm not sure!

That is amazing about the Reports, Rae. It does seem a BIT soon for them to go, even with the wear they've had, but on the other hand, they are a lighter-weight boot, which is one thing that makes them so comfortable. I hope you can get them fixed, or get a back-up pair. They have been such workhorses for you.

I love the ponte pants on you! The Bay carries some INC things...I wonder if they carry those. I would love something like that. I do have my Gap Really Skinny pants, but there's something I'm not completely in love with about those. I am not even entirely sure I can articulate it (except they pick up cat hair). Something about the fit that isn't quite ideal. These look spectacular on you!

This looks super Rae! I bet it felt very luxurious and comfy to wear silk and ponte together ^^ REALLY like the aqua and burgundy together. Too bad about the boots, I hope you can get a replacement soon :(
