WIW: Rae From The Waist Down

Only working four hours today - yay for my tired feet! The other good news is that "professional dress" is out the window, and I'm able to rock my comfy jeans and boots. I have censored all the logos on my shirt just to be on the safe side with company policies.

I also learned that I am going to have to start wearing a WORKING watch on the sales floor - yikes, who knew?? There are no cell phones allowed, and no clocks, and all my watches have dead batteries, because I never actually used them as anything but arm candy. I really want the one in pic #2, but I guess it would be better to just buy some batteries... stupid practicality. ;)

Ah, welcome to my world!! At least you get to express yourself somewhat from the waist down ;) I do, as well, in my uniforms - within the constraints of course.
Is this shift from needing office wear going to throw your closet into upheaval? Or is it a welcome change for you?

You are definitely rockin' the jeans and boots, and the color of your logo shirt is excellent on you. Too bad about the cost differential watch:batteries 'cause that is a supremely cool watch!

My feet are so happy for your feet today!

PS I think you deserve a new watch, love it!

Mo, that is a great question that I've hesitated to even ask myself. I know we are allowed to wear skirts, but I have to remember to ask if the skirts have to be denim/solid/whatever as well. Same for the slacks... if I can wear printed skirts and slacks, I'll definitely have more fun. And if not, well, there is always DFS Tuesday. Plus, I'm only doing about 25 hours a week... I will have to make my days off count!

I think you need the watch!

That watch is seriously gorgeous! But in the interest of spending money wisely, maybe just get the batteries for now and the watch later?

Love those jeans & boots on you!

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

The t-shirt uniform thing at the Rack is new. Gals used to be able to wear what they wanted as long as it was professional. Oh well!

How are those feet? Now you have a taste of why I need very comfortable shoes :)

I vote get batteries for your old watches.

Rae from the waist down is just as fab!

  • Glory replied 11 years ago

You look great and what good news that you can wear some comfy boots. I vote batteries for now.

  • annagybe replied 11 years ago

I recommend getting some insoles for your boots.

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

Beautiful - rocking the messy hair, too! What jeans are those? They are a great dark wash...

  • MsMary replied 11 years ago

You look great both north and south of the waist! I love the watch but perhaps at this point new batteries are the wisest option! If you have a Sears store near you, they generally have watch repair guys in the store.

  • Sylvie replied 11 years ago

Congratulations on your first day! I think it's tradition to buy yourself a gift with your first paycheck - perhaps that watch is a good candidate?

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Thanks, everyone! It was a short day, but my legs and feet are still tired, as they have not yet recovered from last night!

Everyone who voted watch batteries is right on the money. Luckily, I know they sell watch batteries at the swap meet regularly. I just have to open all those babies up and see what sizes I need. Hm, maybe the pretty new watch can go on my Christmas wish list...

Anna, I do have some insoles, but I'm thinking of getting some better ones as well. Feet have definitely become a priority.

Angie, I had remembered The Rack without uniforms as well - the t-shirts were a surprise when I came in for my interview. Oh, well, just part of paying my dues. I really DO understand your fussy feet now, too! Oh my, I never realized how fussy *mine* are!

Una, the jeans are the custom pair I designed through Getwear.com. :)

I always figured they would want gals to wear different trendy outfits to stimulate creativity and buying. Who knew?

  • Jenava replied 11 years ago

They started the t-shirts so that customers could tell the difference between employees and other shoppers. Since the format is different at the Rack it was often hard to tell, and customers didn't know who to ask for assistance. (-:

You are rocking that t shirt, I'm sorry about your footsies. You can always wear a regular outfit and strip down to the tee like superman.

You look very fab! So great to be able to wear jeans to work? Are they Frye Veronica? They are the best shoes I could wear when working retail, but even then I would get back pain.

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Hehe, Zap, that is a hoot to think about. As soon as a customer looks up questioningly, I jump to her side and tear my shirt open to reveal the uniform!

It is true, though, that it is hard to spot an SA at the Rack, even with the tees.

Elle, these are the Frye Vera - taller heel than the Veronica, but still good for me.

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

Great way to use the Rack tee! It doesn't feel too un-Rae, actually. Glad the days are going well! And another vote for replacing batteries first :)

  • Jjsloane replied 11 years ago

I think the announcements that say "Please check out with someone in a GREEN tee made them do it" Better than some kind of apron or smock I say. I imagine you'd be able to layer Under the tee??? Having waitressed and retailed I know the feet situation. My first pair of Docs were my favorite waitressing shoes.

You look GREAT! I'm so excited for you! :) A bit of a bummer about the t-shirt, but I know you'll make the best of it.

What department will you be working in?

  • cheryle (Dianthus) replied 11 years ago

I think the outfit is great. I also love that watch and it tempted me - especially when I saw a blue version of it. I agree that the batteries are a less expensive option but if you want to buy yourself a little congratulatory gift, I found this alternative by Invicta.

I tried on a pair of Ecco booties last night and ordered them online when I got home. I am on a search for attractive boots/shoes that are made for comfort and am finding quite a few. Perhaps we don't have to sacrifice fashion for comfort after all.

Woo hoo on the new job!!
