WIW: Still Swashbuckling

Still going strong with a menswear influence. I'm in the wrong industry, clearly. I should have been a pirate - either regular pirate or space pirate would do.

First set with orange blouse worn to get an MRI for my car accident injuries. I wanted to "dress up" a little bit to be sure no one would talk down to me. I shouldn't have worried, but what I DID learn was that this Nexx blouse really rocks my socks - looked great after 2 long hours of laying squished under a heavy blanket! Pic #1 is me belatedly attempting to include my bag and trench in the pic - whoops, didn't make it in time for the shutter to go...

Second set is my Steampunk Saloonkeep getup - or at least that's how it makes me feel. ;) In a perfect world, I'd have a cropped vest and cream doctor's bag to go with this, but a girl on SYC has to make do... I'm probably less conspicuous as-is, anyway. I will leave off the twisty mustache, armbands, and hat, though.

Cute, fun and inspiring as always! That Nexx blouse is incredible.

    Go steampunk-girly-tomboy :)

I don't think banking and piracy are necessarily incompatible. Monty Python shows how it can be done with the legendary accountant pirates of Crimson Permanent Assurance, lol :)

    That orange top is beautiful!

Love the second outfit too. It looks like those boots are really working out for you :)

That blouse is just smashing on you Rae! And I love your Saloonkeep outfit - those boots are gonna get a work out with you, I can tell!

  • Aunty replied 11 years ago

Oh boy do you look fab in orange!!!

    Love all of it :)

Amazing orange blouse, and I love the way you make the boots integrate into such a stylish, but still approachable look!

  • fern replied 11 years ago

You are inspiring me with your non-costumey steampunk outfit! That is the way it's done - & so much fun.

  • goldenpig replied 11 years ago

Oh wow! I love your outfits so much and the descriptions to go with them--space pirate, steampunk saloonkeep--you are leading such an interesting fantasy life! Your secret persona! You look great in the orange, and the striped shirt and boots are divine. I would be so excited if bankers dressed like you!

BTW Ms. Steampunk Saloonkeep--I'll wear my steampunk saloon girl outfit and we can go out on the town!

I'm thinking you have found a way to make slightly warmer weather dressing a whole lot of fun!
That Nexx blouse is amazing - you need to jump off SYC to get another for sure.
Shape on the steampunk skirt is fantastic - not looking like a tomboy at all! I like how you are bringing these elements together.

Wow do I love you in that orange blouse! Incredible! The purse with it is gorgeous also. The second outfit is also lovely.

  • Jonesy replied 11 years ago

I laughed out loud at your post, Rae! I love both looks, and salute your swashbuckling self :).

You are so cute!!!! I love the Nexx blouse and those boots, oh my, I am so glad you kept them. Are your ams confortable on the Nexx blouse, once you roll up the sleeves? The blouse did not work out for me. The lower arm on the small was too tight, if I was to roll up the sleeves, while the rest of the shirt was fine, whereas the medium was huge on me. Weird because I have such skinny arms.
I am hoping the AT works.

These both look great! Glad the new boots are working out for you. Hope you are healing up.

Thanks so much, everyone! I'm really having fun with spring dressing for once, so I'm extra happy it's not coming off as totally out of left field.

Angie, I was thinking of Shannon's soft dressing for spring thread, and perhaps Steampunk-girly-tomboy is my warm weather version of UWP.

Amy, LOL. They told us the meaning of life - and once again Monty Python shows us the way.

Fern, thank you. It's kinda hard not to go all-out costumey with the steampunk vibe!

Natalie, is it wrong that you and me running around in saloon outfits sounds like gigantic boatloads of fun?? Watch out if I am ever in SF!

Jonsey, I'm glad you get my silly sense of humor. :)

Zap, I'd read that in the reviews, but the sleeves worked out very well for me. When rolled, I can scrunch them to my exact wishes, and they stay in place instead of hanging limply like many of my sleeves do.

Scarlet, thank you - I have some nice pain meds to help me along, lol!

Rae, would love to get together with you next time you are in the Bay Area!

Forgot to mention that you look a lot like Mo in picture #1!

  • annagybe replied 11 years ago

Gah! Now I want the Nexx orange shirt.

  • Mo replied 11 years ago

GP, could be that I have that unorganized, last minute look about me ;)
I love the vibe here, Rae. Sometimes one or two magical pieces in your closet just say "you" in every way and I think these boots qualify. Awesome!

    Saloon-keeper! *adds to list*

So much fun to see your inspiration photos - I am enjoying all of these threads you've posted!

  • goldenpig replied 11 years ago

Ha Malina, not at all! I just thought her pretty smile in #1 reminded me of you, except with black straight hair!

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

SGT = Rae's rubric for Summertime.

  • Makrame replied 11 years ago

That orange blouse is perfect (and I like it with a touch of yellow that your bag adds).

The steampunk outfit is fun, too. Love the belt with the boots.

  • Joy replied 11 years ago

Both outfits are winners. I can see why you want that blouse in another color. I'm not sure what "steam punk" is and even less sure of "hill-billy steam punk" mentioned in the local paper as a trend here this weekend but w/o pictures.

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Heh heh, just call me Sgt. Rae! lol... still a little warlike!

Mo, I'm thrilled to be compared to you, rushing or not. :)

Anna, I really do love the blouse and agree with the Nordies reviewers who have said it looks like it could easily have cost more.

Una, did you ever get your custom suit made? I have been thinking of you as the menswear vibe continues to grow on me.

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Joy, I have never heard of hill billy steampunk - I know steampunk as a sci-fi type alternate universe imagining technology revolving around steam... kind of a wild west meets Victorian meets industrial thing. Off to google the hill billy trend... o_0
