WIW: Utilitarian Paisley, White Summer Night

SGT (Steampunk Girly Tomboy) it is again today! A little noir, a little Wild West, and a whimsical cat necklace - that's one benefit to wearing this pseudo-masculine blouse - my more feminine jewelry does not feel too dainty.

Bonus casual outfit, worn on a supply run out to Subway.

That orange Nexx blouse is stunning on you! The paisley skirt almost looks like lace: very cool. Love the trench. As for your casual outfit, I love, love LOVE you in white/light colors! Is there a way you could work that Puma moto jacket into a work outfit? Maybe you already have and I missed it. Anyway, I love it on you. :)

Steampunk deluxe! I am so glad you go the orange blouse. It is totally fab on you!!
    Love your casual outfit too.

The handbag and booties play very nicely together.

That blouse is going to end up being your favourite wardrobe item, I can tell! This girly cowboy look is fantastic on you Rae - I adore the pairing of the blouse and skirt and I sooooo want your map bag!

  • Sona replied 6 years ago

two totally fab looks- one corporate chic, one cool casual. and can I just say that the titles you've beenc oming up with these days are Rae-tastic!!!

  • rae replied 6 years ago

Claire, I have *tried*! I was thwarted by the fact that the moto is sweatshirt material and also pretty old. I get away with a lot, but distressed sweats felt wrong at the office. HOWEVER, I have an upgrade on the way, which should arrive today or tomorrow!

Rita, I have to remember steampunk deluxe for a WIW title. Love.

Shannon, this blouse is a favorite already. One of very few items that has crossed the closet divide and been worn for both work and play. I'm half afraid I'll wear it to shreds by next spring!

I want you to wear a cowboy hat. Although, I suppose that would take this outfit from fabulous to costume-y, but there it is.

That orange blouse is stunning on you.

  • Suz replied 6 years ago

That orange blouse is gorgeous on you! I love the entire outfit. It's a tonal look with a pop, and really works. You've got a ton of wear from that skirt. It just goes to show that a more unusual bottom is often a good investment.

Love the casual look, too. You look great in that jacket, so I'm glad to hear a replacement is on the way.

Rae, I absolutely love your casual look! I covet that white Puma jacket!!

  • Kiwichik replied 6 years ago

I don't think you can ever call paisley utilitarian - love the skirt with the orange blouse fab.

  • catgirl replied 6 years ago

Your Nexx blouse is killing me. Thank goodness I found something similar. :) You're on such a roll lately - do you feel you've made some kind of key transition, and how can I get me some of that?

  • rae replied 6 years ago

Amy, I wish! My boss mentioned he owns a couple Indiana Jones fedoras, and I immediately wanted one, too.

Suz, I think I have more crazy skirts than plain ones!

Una, thank you - I have been feeling like I hit my stride, and I'm glad you can see it as an observer as well. I think that the first turning point was the creation of my rubric, which helped to make sure that the style in my head came across in practice. The next big thing was my eyes opening to more styles of menswear that work for the warm months.

I'm actually planning to make June "Manspiration Month" in honor of Fathers' Day. :)

  • catgirl replied 6 years ago

Oh, I'll join you for part of that. Then I'll be in Hawai'i in surfer chick mode. :)

  • Diana replied 6 years ago

Sooooo fab! i want to copy #1.

  • Angie replied 6 years ago

LOVE Outfit #1 and #2. So Euro. So KILLER. So pinned.

  • nicoleb replied 6 years ago

I LOVE the colors on you in the first two photos! You look stunning! Both outfits are great but a big "wow!" to the first outfit. :D

  • sarah replied 6 years ago

So awesome, Rae. I love these looks.

  • shevia replied 6 years ago

Thanks for explaining the SGT. I worked at the RCMP for too long and couldn't get past Sgt.

I love that shirt on you and it works really well with the skirt and boots. I like all of the outfits but that shirt is outstanding (O/S)

  • christy replied 6 years ago

That orange is so amazing on you - love it!! I tried the Nexx shirt but it was just too long on me. Boo - because I loved all the colors!! And the casual look is terrific. You look great!

  • rae replied 6 years ago

Shaka bra! I bet you have great surfer style, Una.

Angie, you've just reminded me to turn the Pinterest pins on for the blog!

dianthus, I think I should just keep an acronym key on my desktop and paste it in sometimes. I don't want to cause confusion, but now I'm typing the short *and* long versions, which defeats the purpose, lol.

Christy, I'm sorry it didn't work for you! In a perfect world, Nexx would see how beloved these shirts are and start making them in petite and also keep refreshing the color options every season... I know it's a dream, but it is a beautiful dream...

  • fashionista replied 6 years ago

Love all the outfit. You look gorgeous as always. I love the relaxed vibe of outfit 3. Just my style.
    That pendant is so cute.

  • Meredith1953 replied 6 years ago

The blouse with the skirt is just stunning! I also love the white moto jacket and that striped top peeking out below! Just fab, both of the looks!

  • cheryle (Dianthus) replied 6 years ago

Rae, I was just teasing about the acronym. I can usually figure them out but if not, just move on. I can usually figure out the general idea without.

    it is all good.

  • CocoLion replied 6 years ago

How have I ever missed that white moto jacket? It looks sooo good on you. I mean, I would brake hard to check out that jacket and if I were a guy I'd be trying to get your number.

  • tigerlily6200 replied 6 years ago

Wow I'm new and clueless when it comes to fashion but you look fabulous. The blouse and the skirt are my fav. I couldn't pull that off in a billion years :)
