WIW & WIB: Nordies consolation at the swap meet!

I went to my very first NAS after work yesterday but didn't come back with anything. The Halogen skirts fit way better than the last version but still showed my saddlebags. The Donald Pliner burgundy boots were adorable but fit my foot really strangely - I had to size down a whole size and my foot still slid around, plus they were so hard to get on I think I pulled a muscle in my leg. The one dress I liked turned out to not be on sale...

So... today at the swap meet I made a point to stop at a booth that always has damaged department store stuff, and I came across these Paul Green boots. The ankles *and* calves actually felt nice and slim, they were leather lined, and they only had a small spot on them (items here usually have structural damage). For $40 I figured I'd dye them burgundy. Lo and behold, I got home and found them still at full price at Nordies - $489! Maybe now it'd be a sin to dye them?

After the swap meet we went to the beach, hence the short dress, hat and tote.

Love the boots. Are they damaged (seconds we call them)? They are a stunning tall boot. Why not dye them if it means you will have the boot you want:)

Love your outfit - that hat was made for you! Those boots - I die! Are they gray? $489.00 marked down to $40.???? Do whatever you want with them! Also, that dress is really cute on you.

  • MNsara replied 11 years ago

Definitely stunning boots on you!! What a steal of a price too :-)

I'd wait before dying drastically, just consider cleaning them up for now maybe? Then see what you think when fall/winter really begins.

Paul Green is one of my absolute faves (athough not every style fits my fussy foot) and I jump for joy when I find a Nordstrom Rack pair for $80, so you scored big time!!

P.S. You look adorable all ready for the beach! Love the hat and dress together.

LOVELOVE the outfit, Rae! That hat is awesome on you; and I love the new boots! What a fab find! I hope you dye them the colour that makes you happiest! They are quite cute as grey, though!

Incredible find! I love my Paul Greens. Enjoy, whatever you end up doing with them -- although I'd try to clean the spot before trying to dye them.

  • Jem replied 11 years ago

That was an amazing deal!!! I love them on you and they even look cute with your dress!

  • AJ replied 11 years ago

What a great boot deal! If the stains don't come out, then I would enjoy seeing your DIY expertise in action!

Cute beach outfit! The hat is adorable!

Awesome outfit! I adore the hello kitty bag ... and so would my DD! What a score on the boots! I like the grey color. I would second the suggestion to hold off on dying them.

  • rae replied 11 years ago

So far it is 4-3 to only dye them if the sain doesn't come out.

Here's a comparison of my other similar-colored boots: brown, taupe-ish gray-green-brown, gray. Today's are in the middle - different enough from the others?

  • cciele replied 11 years ago

I think they are different enough -- I'd hold re: dyeing unless you are dieing to have a certain color :) Awesome buy and they fit you like a dream!

  • Kiwichik replied 11 years ago

Cute dress and I love the idea of burgundy boots.

  • fashionista replied 11 years ago

Love you in those outfits. And yes those boots look great to me. The length is so adorable.

  • CocoLion replied 11 years ago

Great idea to try and remove the stain first before dyeing. I like that idea because it sounds easiest. On the other hand -- the boots do look somewhat similar in color to the last pair, at least on my monitor, so that would be a reason to dye them.

    Love the cold shoulder dress.

  • Abie replied 11 years ago

Love your outfit today, Adorable! and, way to score an awesome deal on some boots. I say if you know you want some burgundy boots and you already have a pair in a similar color, then dye.

  • Laura replied 11 years ago

What a pretty dress, and a fantastic consolation prize. I like the color as is. Is dying them risky?

  • Julie replied 11 years ago

Splendid score, Rae!! Your boot radar was running on full power.

I think your idea to dye them burgundy is right on the money. You have numerous skirts, dresses and tops that will go with burgundy, plus, the burgundy will look so good peeking out from under your jeans, too. Don't forget that. The only downside might be if you want to wear skinny jeans tucked into them. In that case, I would say the burgundy would be too much, so as long as you don't mind wearing them under when it come to jeans, I say go for it!!

I can show you what a red boot looks like under jeans. As great as they look like this, when I tried them over the jeans it was positively frightening!!

    Cheers

    Julie

Woo-hoo! Your outfit is adorable and the boots are a score!

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

What a score, Rae! How damaged are the boots?

My gut says not to dye them burgundy. It may look a little odd in style of boot.

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

Oh yes! I forgot to mention that I LOVE the dress with the boat shoes :)

  • replied 11 years ago

Yowza! That is a fantastic pair of boots! I think they are different enough from your lace-ups to keep that color. How about distressing (darkening) the toes and curving the design around the side of the boot just far enough to incorporate the spot into the dark color? I have no idea what you would use to do this, but you have an artistic eye and you could make it look really good. I like the texture of the leather as it is, so I'm not keen to see you dye them unless it's a last resort.

Nice outfit for the swap meet and the beach, too. Lovin' those boat shoes!

  • Sveta replied 11 years ago

What a score! I also think they are different enough from your current boots to keep this color.
Your beach outfit is adorable - hat and all!

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Thank you EVERYONE for your help and for making me pause about the color. I am going to leave them as-is - Angie and Julie are right; the style might not look the best in burgundy.

And Claire, if that stain doesn't come out, your idea to distress them *further* is tops!

I am highly enjoying my boat shoes!

  • Amy replied 11 years ago

Fab outfit Rae! You really rock that hat and dress.

Those boots are killer. They're different enough from your other pairs to leave the same color. I like Claire's idea to distress them further, rather than dyeing them.

  • Lavinia replied 11 years ago

I LOVE the boots as is. But I am partial, because I would really like to find a similar pair myself.

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

GREAT score on the boots! I'm with Angie and others that burgundy in this slouchier style wouldn't look quite right; for you I see a sleeker burgundy boot, and this color/style is certainly different enough than your others. And your WIW in #1 is SO FLIPPIN CUTE (and I'm not big on the "cold shoulder")!! Now that is how to look cute at the beach!
