Year of the Gear

You're probably sick of seeing this jacket already, but I'm in the throws of this season's jacket love affair. I wore this outfit to one of DH's favorite swap meets yesterday (not a good clothing deal to be had for me, sadly) and wore the exact outfit with a navy sweater instead of the citron today. DH was very pleased with this look!

Suz recently discussed how she will wear certain favorites over and over during the season, and I know I tend to work the same way. Last year, I could not get enough of my fishtail parkas, but it's been too cold for them this year. This year, it's the Zella and the new blue Lulu. I guess I am feeling sporty for '12-'13, because both these jackets were designed as workout gear.

Do you have any gear that crosses over into your daily wear? I know it's generally frowned upon here, but I can't help it.

Burgundy & Blue at the Rose Parade

Just a quick and partial shot of the outfit I wore out to see the Rose Parade floats on New Year's Day. We were too tired from NYE to make the actual parade, but it was still a bunch of fun to see the floats up close after they parked. I over-estimated how cold it would be and ended up stripping off my jeans in favor of a single layer of fleece tights under my tunic. Not pictured are my burgundy Timberland Rudston boots, which I decided to keep after all - I'd planned to resell them since they are too high for work, but they really turned out to be comfy for walking in my off-time. Please excuse DH's thumb. :)

Bonus pics of my favorite floats! I guess I have a soft spot for the animals, and especially for pet adoptions. >^..^<

1920s NYE Makeup and Accessories

I posted this outfit in Jeanne's YLF Ball thread, but I wanted to have it in my blog as well. :)

I tacked the fur tippet onto the beaded jacket, just so I wouldn't have to worry about it flying off. The final touches were my floral-fishnet tights (kind of like a stained glass pattern), jeweled headband, and beaded crossbody/clutch. I received some wonderful compliments from other partygoers, which made my day especially because everyone was turned out to the nines - gorgeous dresses, jewelry, tiaras, and bow ties everywhere!

The highlight of the evening was the live performance by the Roswell Sisters, a trio singing 1930s songs by the Boswell sisters as well as new material. The dress and set list were entirely different from the linked video, but they don't have many videos up quite yet. My very favorite song, "I Had My Chance" (which I hope they record and release for sale someday soon), was written by the pianist and arranged by the male vocalist. So fun!

Bonus shots of me and DH at the party (not so great lighting with the flash) and DH photobombing my outfit shots after we returned from an afterparty in Silverlake.
