Seems like this cool dude needs little introduction on YLF!
Tom Petty wasn't one of my childhood heroes like Kurt Cobain was, but he has sure grown on me as I've grown up. Something about his combination of pseudo-Southern sensibility and Californian colloquialisms makes his sound ever so cool and relaxed - the musical equivalent to a lazy beach dude with a drawl. Things might get bad, but Petty approaches the tough times with an almost detached and philosophical air, earnestness, and charm that makes you think everything will turn out alright in the end.
To me, Tom Petty's style is a little bit on the 70s side of the 80s - he likes those short leather jackets as much as McGuyver, but Petty needs to look like he could break out in a harmonica solo at a moment's notice. I noticed a good amount of denim-on-denim, vests, and leather, so I ran with that as the theme for my outfit. He also seems to have an affinity for a touches of drama and color, so the bold stripes and red bag seem to work well, and the subtle Americana vibe of the red/white/blue color combo feels right for an artist who's definitely been played on many a cross-country road trip.

It's been a long day yesterday, and I'm barely getting dressed this morning! But to get to the point, I feel summer creeping in again, and had to go for a short-sorts and wildflowers ring ensemble. Hubs and I are off to run down a dream and have one last dance with the weekend before Monday comes!
