Mo-vember Jacket Challenge Day 8: The Barbour is Here!

I LOOOOOVE this jacket! I'm SO glad I ordered it - got a fantabulous deal on Ebay even though the size is rare. It was even cheaper than the Anthro jacket I bought and returned way back when. Descriptions of this jacket elsewhere said the collar was lined with fleece, but it turns out the *entire* jacket is lined! Utterly fabulous news since I hate the feel of a woven polyester lining. I felt so cozy and cuddly, and not the least bit sticky. Wore this after a rain (a welcome novelty here) to get a part installed in my car and hit up the grocery store.

Cue the artsy blogger photo - a.k.a. me caught off guard because I can't hear the camera timer very well outside. I'm also having difficulties posing outdoors because I'm not used to these angles... which way to tilt my head, the right slouch. And I'm less comfortable, wondering if someone is going to walk or drive by and have a giggle. ;) I do love the natural lighting, though, so I'm going to keep it up. How do you like the yellow fence? This is the background I get when I put the camera on the roof of my car.

I really like that jacket, Rae. And the bag is a real eye catcher!

Yellow fence looks good with that outfit! I hope you stood there a long time...hehehe....no but seriously the outfit looks great. The green bag just somehow goes with the purple jacket beautifully. You're a much better color mixer than me!

Great jacket! I am loving the outside shots too.

Great jacket! I especially love the color of the bag against the color of the jacket.

Great jacket and love the outside photos and the purse...

WELL! I am glad you went for that jacket, the color is AMAZING on you. Truly! Super with the ombre citron/lime purse. Personally I prefer neutral backgrounds when applying feedback, but having a mix of the two is great to get a sense of the outfit out and about in the Real World.

(The poses will come! But it takes practice. Those darn angles are tricky, especially if you hand set your camera down because the camera ITSELF changes so even if YOU adjust how you stand the camera may not be the same. You'll get it though!)

I love the jacket and the bag!

I really like picture #1. it does have the artsy feel to it, but part of the fun. Especially with how our outfit pops against it.

    It's perffect! PERFECT.

For my own future reference, what size did you get? :)

I love the outdoorsy backgrounds and you are so photogenic!

Rae, the color mixing is a learned skill... I used to only like one color per outfit! How times change, lol.

Aida, you are not kidding! The camera especially loves to move on the fence. I have a little tripod I can use, but I was so lazy about it since I then have to remove the tripod to upload the pics. I will have to try it and see if it helps.

Una, sizing was a complicated matter! Barbour has a few different fits. This is the "heritage" fit, which is the most tailored, and I bought a size US2. This UK site has a really good size chart that explains the different fits. Also a great resource to know which style comes in which fit... not all the Barbour retailers tell you.

I'm too lazy for a tripod, too. I have found that if there's a horizontal reference point on your surface that will help a lot though you need to be good about aligning the camera every single time you set it down. So for example, on the hot tub for my normal back yard photos, I align the camera so it's parallel to the edge of the cover and adjust how I stand to compensate (it's not dead on, so I have to turn and stand angled). Same with when I use my car; align with the sunroof, and adjust how I stand; and same with the bricks for my front porch.

Holy smokes you are a quick study, your outdoor pics are improving at an impressive speed.
That jacket is gorgeous... is that a UK brand? Inquiring minds want to know...

  • fashionista replied 11 years ago

I looooooooooooove the jacket and love it even more when its fleece lined. The bag is so popping in your otherwise neutral outfit and in a very interesting way.
And yes I love that mustard-y background. I love this outfit and you are looing gorgeous.

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Zap, thank you for saying I've improved. It is odd seeing myself in these different locations; the surroundings are so fun to look at that I feel blah in comparison. It is indeed a UK brand... English, I think?

Fashionista, I have to admit I keep an old performance fleece jacket to wear in the house. It is so comfy, I cannot give it up.

That jacket looks so good, and the color is incredibly flattering. Love the outdoor photos. That's the bag you did yourself? It really looks amazing.

  • Small But Mighty replied 11 years ago

Fabulous outfit. I'm incredibly impressed that you dyed that bag yourself. But what IS the Movember jacket challenge? It sounds intriguing, like something I could get in on... seeing as how I'm NOT joining the guys at work doing the Movember thing!

  • Mochi replied 11 years ago

That's the problem with YLF--I have no idea I even want something until I see how extraordinarily gorgeous it looks on someone else. What a great color and fit! This is YOUR jacket.

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

Loving the apple green with the purple. You look perfect!

And these street shots are *the best*. Keep it up :)

  • Mo replied 11 years ago

Score on the jacket!! I think you are Queen Jacket if you had 27 before even this one arrived ;)
And I love the outdoor shots! I might have to try, too. I do have the river in the backyard, but the park across always has a handful of people. Of course, what should I care if strangers see me 'pose'!

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Small But Mighty, the challenge was inspired by Mo, who has been challenging herself to wear all of one type of thing per month. I figured that I should do a similar thing because I have a lot of jackets!

Nancy, I do the same thing - I have to take extra time to stop and think about items I see here, because sometimes I love it so much on others but it isn't for me.

Mo, I'd love to see more of your river! I know what you mean about people, though. It shouldn't matter, but even the thought of people seeing makes me camera shy.

So fab! And OMG Photo 1 is just the epitome of fashion blogger coolness!!

    A serious jacket.
