My (Jacket's) Name is Mud

Remember when I had such a hard time buying piles of leather jackets and never wearing them? I think I must have cracked that nut - at least the "never wearing" part.

I spotted this jacket late at night while watching Elementary online - I had been drooling over Watson's wardrobe for some time, and when she popped up wearing this jacket, I had to pause the show and scour the net for it. It was far too expensive, and I was between sizes anyway. But! There was one on Ebay being sold because it had stretched out too much for the original owner... elementary, indeed. I'm crazy about the light weight, minimal moto styling, and the ephemeral gray/olive/brown/mud color.

I think I liked yesterday's styling better (pic 2 from YLF meetup), because of the higher contrast between top and jacket. This realization is leading me to see that I need more light/white tops. But anyway, I still liked the dark, tonal look a lot. Just wish I had switched out the bag, to match the low-contrast outfit.

I've been feeling a little ragged and, thus, absent from the forum. My oldest friend lost her father, so I stayed with her family for a couple days. Before that were two solid weeks of jam-packed triple-points appointments. There was also a new systems training in there somewhere. And a lot of stress eating. :T

Bonus addition: the screencap that launched my priority mail package.

Mackage "Kenya" jacket (Aritzia exclusive) - Ebay
J. Crew linen blend tee - $1 at flea market
Free People mini - Nordstrom
Old West cowboy boots - gift from stepmom

I was drooling over that jacket on Saturday and I'm drooling over it now!  I love your styling even more than the lovely Watson's!

I've missed you around the forums so it was extra great to have some face time with you!  Hopefully things will calm down for you soon!  XXX OOO

Rae, thus is ridiculous! Did you know I often think of you while watching her? I keep thinking... hmm, interesting... now wouldn't rae look good in that... and yet the overall impression I have of her style is a bit more girly than yours... something about the pieces themselves? Or the can-do no-nonsense-but-empathetic attitude.

That is an amazing jacket and you rock it as well as Lucy Liu.   I did a similar thing when I saw Jennifer Lawrence's black flared trench coat in Silver Linings Playbook.   I didn't end up getting it because I had things that were too similar, but I lost the dialogue for a moment there when it appeared on screen. :)

Mary, YES. I really needed that YLF outing - OH, and I forgot to mention the tax appointment. Whew, hopefully there will be a lull in the storm.

Mani, that is so interesting that you saw me in her outfits, too. There were several pieces that set me drooling, though you are right that she dresses softer and more feminine overall. I can't wait to see what other treasures she wears!

Nice addition to the leather collection. Have you considered a vest for your next purchase? I'm finding mine super versatile!

Wow, I admire your research abilities!  The jacket looks perfect on you -- the fit, the color.  I actually love it with the tonal outfit -- no second guessing needed on that one.

Very nice, the color is fantastic!

Gorgeous jacket and the colour is great. You are a bit of a detective yourself, finding this little beauty. :)

I thought that was a new one -- looks good! Hope things calm down for you soon.

Love the jacket and the color!

I love that show, and I must confess that I covet in equal proportions Sherlock's and Watson's wardrobes.

  • Jaime replied 10 years ago

Also think you wear it better than Watson!

Lovely jacket and I am in total love with the way you styled it for the YLF meet up!

It looks great on you! I am always googling right after watching Elementary. I LOVE Joan's style.

Great jacket find rae - it looks fantastic on you in both outfits. I just watched a movie the other night called "Mud" but alas, it was not related, but a good movie nonetheless.

Fabulous!  You look terrific, and I am so glad you scored it from eBay!

Wonderful jacket, Rae. It looks especially great with the lighter color tee.

  • Emily replied 10 years ago

I like it both ways, Rae!  It is a great jacket for you.  Have you seen the site wornontv.com?  They often feature items Lucy Liu wears on Elementary.

  • LACeleste replied 10 years ago

You look beautiful in that gorgeous jacket Rae!  It is so you!

I'm really sorry to read about your friend's Dad.  It's great that you could be there for her during a rough time.
