White Jeans - and OMG, check out this Zella Warrior wrap!

I had a bunch of errands to run today, including getting my bridesmaid's dress hemmed and returning the gold OTBT booties. :_(

But the good news is that I sold a bunch of stuff so I was able to take advantage of an extra % off and browse around... I was intrigued by this Zella "Warrior Wrap" - it was just. so. ugly. online, but in person it was soft and a nice light weight. After playing around with it a bit, I became a little obsessed. Am I wearing gimmick goggles, or does this thing look cute a bunch of different ways? I think my favorite is #6's over-the-shoulder military cape/sari vibe.

Also: finally thrifted a pair of white skinnies that don't make me feel like I'm in a 49er's long underwear. $1 Abercrombies. Hopefully they last a while so I don't have to actually visit an Abercrombie in the near future.

BCBGeneration jacket - Amazon
Madewell tank - Madewell
Men's belt - flea market
Abercrombie jeans - $1 at flea market
Silver leaf necklace - $2 at flea market

Cool!  You know I have something just like this, right? In emerald green and in black?  I've even worn it as a giant scarf.  It is perfect for travel.

(My black one is a different brand, with the buttons like yours.)

I like the wrap / sweater - very cool and functional

  • rae replied 10 years ago

Ooh, thanks for the video - lots of new ideas for wrapping!!

I had seen these before, but I don't love relying on knots since I always tie them weird and end up with a big lump in my back when I sit down or jostling them free or something. The snaps totally make it something I can deal with. lol

  • ClaraT replied 10 years ago

Wow. Love this! Yes, the video is quite helpful.

Does it stay styled? That is, if you throw the ends over the shoulders, does the material stay in place as you walk? It looks great.

  • annagybe replied 10 years ago

Ok I have to say this, #4 is my least favorite style. It looks very medical.

  • JulieJohn replied 10 years ago

Well, it just looks great every dang way, you are not wrong about that. What a fun piece, and you look good in it. You glow in grey.

Those white skinnies are superb, and you avoided the stank of that store (it's good from 20 feet away but ... not sure I could breathe in there) : X gasp

That is a really cool wrap, is it easy to style?

  • Diana replied 10 years ago

Cool wrap!  It reminds me of this, but with sleeves:

(near the end, she makes it into a hooded vest which is I think my favorite styling.  I wonder if the zella can do that.)

I do have to agree with Anna about #4 though.  I have a well-established psychological poison eye for strong midline seams especially when they're accompanied by ruching, and it is for precisely the "medical" connotation she mentioned.

Fun wrap!!  I really like #6!

  • Diana replied 10 years ago

And, um, this is so not the same thing at all, but I'm going to leave it here anyway because J. showed it to me last night and it is hilarious:

That's a fun new look for you. The wrap I mean. My thumbs are up.

  • rae replied 10 years ago

Hahahaha, Diana, that is hilarious! Hm, maybe I should thrift some gym shorts?? ;)

Anna, I am not familiar with the medical situation you're reminded of, but I'll take your word for it. Off the plate.

The styles I did were pretty easy and un-complicated. I think I'll have to watch Una's video for advanced wrapping. Everything stays in place really well.

It looks like you are trying to hold your guts in, but still need access to look. So to fit your UWP, it'd be the look after the Zombie attack.

  • FlorenceFearne replied 10 years ago

I'm glad you kept that jacket; it looks amazing on you. I actually wore my military jacket the other day with you in mind. :)

And no, definitely not gimmick goggles. I was thinking of getting this less versatile, (but also much cheaper) similar wrap thing from target.

That wrap is very cool - how fun to have an item of clothing you can play with and change up!

Anna - "after the zombie attack" - lol!

  • Marley replied 10 years ago

I'm chuckling about your Abercrombie comment.  I'm soooo with you on that one!
On to the Zella top.  Wow.  I'm kind of speechless - this just is so different for you!  I like it - but I think of it as something that Deborah would wear, rather than you!  Isn't that weird?  It really does look good on you - I'm just not used to seeing you wear something like this!  Actually, it looks like a lot of fun to play with - so many possibilities!  I'm in agreement with those who don't like #4 - when I looked at it, it brought up images of my great-aunt who had to wear a huge back brace around her torso - so, I'd skip that look, I think.
I like the fact you are trying new looks - that's what I'm wanting to do - just not sure which way to go!

  • rae replied 10 years ago

Ooh, Florence, those are really fun, too. In the picture, it looks like the ends can button onto the collar to secure them. Another good selling point for me.

Angie and Marley, that is interesting! I figured it was similar to my Modcloth cardigan, but both of you see it as a departure. That's a good thing, I think, since I sometimes riff off the same styles.

  • MsMary replied 10 years ago

You look amazeballs!  Today's outfit is a gigantic win, and I love the wrap!!

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

You look stunning in the grey, and I'm completely wowed by the number of looks you were able to successfully manage here. I had a thing like this without the snaps for a while and I could never get it to do much of anything except just hang there, so eventually I decided it was too much for me and I passed it on!

I am, however, in agreement with those who request you forego loo #4, post-zombie attack.

    Great jeans, too!

  • Jaime replied 10 years ago

The wrap is fun but I thought Anna was referring to a straight jacket until she explained. I like the white skinnies too!

  • Diana replied 10 years ago

So here's my take on the "medical" looking seams.  As I mentioned above, I have a severe poison eye for it, so I apologize if I offend or gross out anyone.  Strong center seams with ruching look like surgical midline incisions and scars to me.  The ones on the stomach like you have here don't bother me too much (although I don't like them) but the ones on the chest provoke a very visceral reaction in me (like I feel a little ill when I look at them) because they look so much like my father's scar from open-heart surgery.  So, yeah, not a poison eye I am likely to ever get over.

Fantastic and fun wrap jacket - great find on the white jeans, too!

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 10 years ago

I love the Warrior Wrap, and you look great in it. I agree that 6 is particularly fab, but I like all the stylings you've done.
When I see something like this, I want to try making it. Una's link is terrific. I really like the snaps on the Zella one, though; I think that makes it easier to style, perhaps?
I really, really was laughing out loud at Diana's link. What a hoot! Had to show it to DH, too. Some of those guys are really doing "model face," too.

P.S. I see you already pointed out the snaps are easier. I'm with you--I have a hard time with styles that require knot-tying. Never passed that Boy Scout test.

  • replied 10 years ago

#1 is stellar! I like the new jeans and your wrap is fab! Out of all the stylings my fave is #6

  • ccdjane replied 10 years ago

My comment is not regarding the wrap but your first pic.  You are a "bootie cutie"!! That outfit is awesome!  Military jacket, white jeans, love it all.  I have fun thrifting, too but pants are hard to find for me.  Great look!

  • Mochi replied 10 years ago

I like the wrap too. I don't remember seeing you wear a soft, light grey like this. It's different yet the palette, including the white jeans, looks nice on you. Love the first pic with the jacket and shoes. It must be tough outdoing yourself (or at least maintaining that high standard). But you always seem to pull it off!
