WIW: Graphic Panther + Keep/Sell/Dye Caslon leather jacket?

Hello out there in YLF land! I have not been getting enough YLF fix lately, and I miss lollygagging about at work and chatting with you about fashion all day long... :)

#1 is not what I wore out to the swap meet and a movie today, but I just showed you that blue dress recently. Instead, this is what I wore tonight and another night this week. DH actually found this $5 F21 shirt for me at the flea market - a Christopher Kane knockoff, but I'm not worried about it all these years later, as someone who couldn't afford CK anyway.

#2 is a $5 Caslon nubuck leather jacket I found at the flea market this morning. It feels pretty good on, kind of a Jennifer Aniston vibe with the BF jeans, but how is the color? On the one hand, it feels nice and rugged, and I like how it contrasts with my dark hair. On the other hand... is it too close to Soul Sucking Beige? It doesn't sell well on Ebay, so I'd only make a small amount off it. I could dye it, but I have no idea what color... sour olive? sporty yellow? denim blue? maybe a cayenne red-orange?

Rae, cool t shirt! I like the jacket. I find the color really flattering as it contrasts beautifully with your hair and skin tone. It just looks 'right' on you in my opinion:)

I like that jacket. I am lately into mustard, olive green, military green and beige colors. Loved the fit of the jacket.

You look fierce in #1! I love the fit of the jacket in #2. I feel the same way about wearing beige/camel (I used to love camel but now I realize it's too similar to my skin color). If you're going to dye it, I vote sour olive or cayenne red-orange!

Rae, I love the panther print. F21 has all kinds of big cat shirts right now. I'd dye the leather jacket - I actually think a deep navy blue would look kind of cool.

Pick the trendiest color for fall that you can think of and dye it that color. You've risked very little and it would be fun. I love all of the berry colors coming out and you would look great in those colors. What about blush pink?

You are so cool! I vote to dye the jacket a fun color.

You look great in #1 but that jacket - Wow! what a great fit and a great find. Your flea market skills ROCK. I also vote to dye it (if it's not too much trouble). I like the idea of a deep raspberry red. You could wear it as is for a while first to see if you really want to dye it of course as it looks great with your hair coloring and a bright shirt under it would brighten things up.

    Love your panther!

But, about that jacket... The fit looks great, but I don't love the color on you. I do think it blends too much with your skin. But how does it work to dye nubuck? The leather dyes I've seen so far have a glossy finish. What would that do on a nubuck jacket? Or are there different dyes out there for nubuck?

If it's feasible, then I vote to dye it. What about a deep red? Sour olive sounds interesting, but I don't really know what color that is. Do you have a picture of the color you're talking about?

I hereby crown you Queen Panel Printed Tee! You make them look so stylish, Rae :)

I was perusing a few fall trend lists yesterday and saw a lot of red and burgundy. I think burgundy would work well if you dye the jacket. I like the color it is though and think it works for you. It is much too deep and pretty to be soul sucking beige.

Ooh, thank you for the suggestions of reds and other trendy colors! I looked at a bunch of pictures, and here are some of the colors that attracted me. Right now I'm leaning toward #2 (as you all said, berry colors are trending hard) and #4, which is closest to my current capsule color range.

Parsley, yes, they do make dyes specifically for nubuck and suede, so I would be using those and definitely not trying to add a shiny finish.

  • Parsley replied 11 years ago

Oh yeah, that red would be perfect!

So does the suede/nubuck dye cover darker colors? I'm curious because I have a pair of black suede booties that I would love to change the color of, but I didn't know whether it was possible.

  • texstyle replied 11 years ago

That's a great deep red - love it!

  • rae replied 11 years ago

As I understand, the suede dyes can only take a color from lighter to darker, unfortunately. You might be able to use a stripper first to remove the black, but I have not tried that yet, and I don't know for sure what it'd do on suede.

You are the thrifting + DIY queen! I vote #2, too. wow - you've got skills!!

  • JAileen replied 11 years ago

Oh wow! Definitely #4. If I saw #4 (the color) I would definitely buy it.

Love the panther tee and the fit on the leather jacket is really good. Love the idea of dying it another colour.

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

Oh, wow....I am getting so excited about that jacket! The fit is super on you and what a find. I think once you dye it, it will be a complete workhorse for you.

Love your T, too. My daughter would ADORE that. She has a (much sweeter) T with a HUGE Siamese on it. I should snap a pic of her in that for you.

  • Kiwichik replied 11 years ago

Cool graphic T. I like the colour of the jacket definitely not SSB.
