WIW... in my ears! & K/R Tortoise Print Top

I can finally use the phrase I need X like I need a hole in the head - because with these two new ones in my ears, I'm all full up of the necessary holes. lol.

I had pierced my ears at the mall once when I turned 13 and got the most horrible infections. I had been seriously put off ever piercing ever since. But how about this? I turned 13 on Friday the 13th, and I will turn 30 this Friday the 13th, '13. Time to try again! But this time we went to a place listed in the Association of Professional Piercers, an organization dedicated to top-notch sterilization in an autoclave, use of implant-grade metals, and general expertise in piercing. My piercer, Ron, was super patient, answered all my paranoid questions, and did an amazing job. I highly recommend the APP for finding top-notch piercers.

In other news, my Nordies Employee Discount order arrived today, and most everything is going back (still no light colored dress pants for me!), but how about this blouse? Even with my discount, it was not a cheap shirt, but the silk is of amazing quality, and I love the wrinkle-and-tummy-disguising print and colors. The downside would be that it has a sort of bell sleeve that cannot be rolled or scrunched. I am pretty set on keeping it, but this is one item I had been stalking since it first came out... please talk me down if it is not perfect. I've added a lot of nice things this year, and it won't kill me to pass if it isn't a 10.

Thank you for your time - I have been scarce here because of splitting up birthday time between different people, but I have been YLF-stalking you all!

Rae, I love the shirt.  The pics aren't great but from what I can see the colour and cut is just stunning for you.  I would be keeping it.

Is that your mom? So exciting about your 30th birthday on the 13th. What a coincidence about your 13th birthday being on the 13th. What a lucky number for you. Oh, and I really like the blouse.

Congrats on your piercings! The earrings look great & I hope they heal without any problems. :) What a fun number thing too (and happy belated birthday)!

The blouse looks wonderful to me and judging from your comments it seems like you love it. So I hope everyone else thinks it looks good too! :D

I think the blouse is gorgeous! I find that silk sleeves are hard to scrunch because they are too soft and don't hold the shape but this is the nature of the beast.
I am glad your new piercing experience was much better than the first time. My ears got pierced when I was 15 I think  - by my mom and pretty dull self-piercing earrings. It was so painful and one of the holes gets infected easily, even 30 years later. Good decision to find a good place!

    Rae, you are just beautiful.

Congrats on the ears -- what a fun thing to do -- and what fun you will have with them.

I think I was 13 when I got mine pierced, too -- much against my dad's wishes. He had seen some bad infections in the hospital. But mine never did get infected. The worst that happened was the holes expanded in the 80s when we were all wearing super heavy earrings. One of them is still a bit large as a result.

I love the blouse. The pics are not great but from what I can see it is a keeper. I sometimes roll instead of scrunch silk sleeves, and some of them will stay if you push them just so.

Congrats on the piercings! I've had a lot of different piercers over the years, and I definitely second your testimony that having a piercer who knows what they're doing makes a huge difference. I hope this pair goes well for you!

I love the color, pattern and fit of the blouse - I think it's really gorgeous. The sleeves do give me a bit of a pause though, but I personally dislike bell sleeves and don't think they look bad on you at all.

Thank you for the compliments and advice, ladies!

Sveta and Suz, the sleeves actually have a slight bell and pleat in them... I'm usually good at scrunching and rolling and pinning silk sleeves, but these just plain look awful scrunched or rolled. So it's pretty much take me as I am for the sleeves.

The front can tie up and half tuck and do a lot, though, because of the split hem.

Wow, rae, I have to say, I think that shirt looks meh on the model but absurdly amazing on you. You are rocking it!

  • catgirl replied 10 years ago

Yay ears!  And the shirt is stunning but I could NOT deal with the sleeves - I have to scrunch unless its overlong sweater sleeves.  If you can cope with that, then keepity keep!

Love the blouse! That gorgeous print is unique and the colors are stunning on you! I think the sleeves look fine as long as they don't bug you. (I have had issues with bell sleeves getting in the way and driving me batty throughout the day.)

    I love!

It's almost your birthday! Are you going out to celebrate? The blouse looks fabulous on you, even better than in the Nordstrom's site. I wonder if the tailor at your store could take a look at those sleeves ( if they bother you) and see if they could be altered without much hassle.

  • Diana replied 10 years ago

Awesome blouse!  It looks fantastic on you.  I like the sleeves actually - they are dramatic without being overwhelming.
And congrats on the birthday piercings!  I still do not have my ears pierced...

  • Deborah replied 10 years ago

Just popping back to say that the sleeves look great.i don't think rolling or scrip inching is the only way to go with a top. Full length sleeves worn as they are look great as well. Again, I think this is stunning on you.

  • replied 10 years ago

Congrats on the piercing, and I think the top looks great. Will the sleeves bother you?

  • Susie replied 10 years ago

It's so nice to see the close up of you because you have such a beautiful smile, Rae! Happy soon-to-be birthday! I think getting your ears pierced is a great way to commemorate a milestone birthday. I hope this time that they will be just fine.

The shirt looks gorgeous. I like the sleeves; a different silhouette adds some variety, no?

Rae - Congrats on the piercings!!  They look wonderful and I know you will enjoy!!  I love the blouse.  I think it's very flattering and the details in shape and print make it very special.  Have a fantastic b'day and my the year be filled with wonderful things!!
